Chapter 123: You don’t trust me?

"Congratulations to everyone!" the music video director stood from the end of the long table while holding a glass of beer. "Because of everyone’s effort and hard work, this shoot went smoothly without a hitch. Especially to Anton and our new friend, Filomena, for doing a great job! Let’s cheer for another hit song and, for sure, a viral music video."

Everyone applauded the director’s little speech, taking their glasses to toast with him. Even those who took the other tables clapped happily. The look on their faces proved that everyone was in a great mood for having an easy day today.

Usually, music videos were shot for a whole day. However, because Anton and Fil did a great job, the stress was lower than expected. Not that they expected anything from Fil, but more like they didn’t expect much from Anton. Anton might be a talented musician, but he could also be so hard to work with because of his temperament. Yet, today, Anton was the one who suggested shooting his scenes so he and Fil could finish at the same time. What was even more surprising was that he didn’t intentionally screw up his scenes.

"Just so you know, Fil is like my bestie!" Anton gloated to the people at the same table as him. "She listens to all of my songs and even memorizes them! She’s like a fan, but much better!"

A grin turned up on his face, turning his head to Fil, who sat right beside him. "Good job, Bestie. Can you see everyone? They’re so happy because of you."

"Or they are happy because you didn’t throw a tantrum," Fil humored, earning some laughs from the staff at the table. "Right?"

"Hey!" Anton hissed. "I never throw a tantrum. And why are you suddenly taking her side?"

"If you want them to take your side without conditions, don’t make things hard for them," Fil scolded, facing the staff who were just smiling at the two of them. "If you work with him again and he starts acting up, I can tell you a secret or two, so he behaves."

"You don’t know my secret." Anton leaned his face closer to Fil. "Or did you get me investigated?"

"Either of those two means yes."

Anton narrowed his eyes, looking at her suspiciously. "It’s the latter? Filomena!"

"Haha." Fil laughed, planting her hand on his shoulder to push him mildly. "I didn’t accept this dinner invitation for you to spit on me."

"What?" Anton instantly covered his mouth. "I didn’t. I mean, I don’t."

"Fine, fine." She chuckled, casting the people across from them a look. She wiggled her brows, earning chuckles from them.

As Fil teased Anton and earned the confidence of the crew, Marcus, who was sitting beside Anton remained quiet. He sported a subtle smile, watching Fil and Anton loosen up just like everybody else.

’They did a good job,’ thought Marcus, smiling, eyes on Fil. ’Especially her.’

Time went by in a blur, and everyone started drinking a little more. The joyous dinner soon turned more loud and chaotic, with some of them singing and cheering. Anton even magnanimously had a mini concert to make things more lively.

It was a party until one after another, the majority had a little bit too much to drink.

"Ugh... Fil..."

Marcus helped Anton’s manager carry him in the van, as the latter was more than wasted. Anton forced his eyes open, searching for Fil, and tried to reach out to her.

"Wait," Anton muttered. "I promised her I’d take her home."

"It’s okay, Anton," Fil reassured awkwardly, standing right beside the entrance of the van. "Don’t worry about it."

"No." He patted his manager and Marcus’s shoulders as he tried to stand up on his own. "I will take her home."

"Your assistant will take her home," Marcus spoke, waiting for Anton to look up at him.

"But my assistant was sick... I think?"

"Then, I’d drive her home." Marcus nodded reassuringly. "Don’t worry anymore."

With that being said, Marcus looked up at Anton’s manager and nodded. The latter nodded back, and without a word, they helped Anton get in the van. After the seemingly arduous task, Marcus straightened his back and stood outside the door.

"When he asked about Fil, tell him you took her home," said Marcus to the manager. "I don’t want him to feel guilty about giving her his word, only to get wasted."

The manager smiled and nodded. "Thank you, Director Marcus."

"Don’t worry about it." Marcus tapped on the door and closed it. After doing so, he took a step back and waved.

Fil and Marcus watched the van speed away quietly. As they did so, they heard a few crew members also getting in their cars, bidding them farewell. Some of them managed to hold their liquor, but others were just as wasted as Anton, who needed to be carried and dragged to their cars.

"Isn’t Anton a pothead?" Fil murmured after a moment. "How come he’s a light drinker?"

Marcus smirked as he glanced at her. "That’s the reason. He prefers getting high than getting drunk, but drinking in his line of work is inevitable."

"Is that so?" She looked at him and smiled. "I didn’t know that."

"I’m more surprised that you hold your liquor well."

"I didn’t drink much when I noticed how much everyone drinks."

"You thought you’d go home alone?"

"No." Her smile stretched. "I know you’d offer me a ride."

Deep lines appeared between his brows before the corner of his mouth curled up. "You think I’d do something to you? You don’t trust me?"

"I trust you, but... just to be safe." She joked, touching her cheek with the back of her hand. "Should we take a walk to sober up?"

"Sure. I parked over there," he said. "It’s quite a long walk."

Fil rocked her head, turning on her heel as they started walking away from where they sent off Anton. She drew a deep breath, letting the night breeze brush past her face.

"I didn’t know you and Anton were that close." After several seconds of silence and walking, Marcus pointed out, casting her a look. "I’m not putting malice on it, don’t misunderstand. It just shows I have a lot of things to know about you."
