Chapter 112: Poisonous ideas

Chapter 112: Poisonous ideas

Fil stayed with Kenzo until dinner. She couldn’t just leave him alone for two reasons: one thing was because she was worried about him and the other one was that she didn’t trust him that much. He might sneak out.

It wasn’t like she hid those reasons from him.

Kenzo sat in the living area once again, now that he was alone. He glanced at the couch where she sat initially, sighing deeply.

"She’s really annoying sometimes," he murmured, thinking of the stress she put him through by interrogating him about this mystery woman. "She’s impossible."

Kenzo shook his head mildly before he heard some mechanical noises from the entrance. Slowly, he turned his head until he caught his brother emerging from the entryway.

"Thanks, Cole," was the first thing Kenzo said, making the neatly dressed man with thin-framed glasses, slightly broad shoulders, and towering stature glance in his direction. "Fil just gave me the stress of my life."

"I thought you’d appreciate it more if Miss Lovin helped you with your discharge." The other man’s voice was low and deep, sitting on the other couch while loosening his tie. "I heard she stayed until dinner."

"She doesn’t trust me."

"What do you expect?" his brother rocked his head. "No one trusts you at this point, but you’ll be less of a jerk to her."

Kenzo assessed his brother. "You didn’t have to do that."

"Do what?"

"Bother her," he remarked in a flat tone. "Don’t you know she’s a busy person?"

"I know she’s busy with the Solana Project, but you’re also her friend." The other man agreed in the same tone. "I wouldn’t have bothered her if you only listened to me more."

"Tch." Kenzo clicked his tongue as he looked away. "I’m going home once they remove my cast."

"I’m not stopping you." His brother, Cole, assessed his brother quietly. "I didn’t ask Miss Lovin to come. She offered, and I agreed. She was worried."

"She’s always worried."

"She’s worried that you’re lying to me."

Deep lines appeared between Kenzo’s brows as he looked back at him. "Did she say something?"

"She’s not like that," Cole shrugged. "But I know she knew something you hadn’t told me."

He slowly leaned forward, resting his arms on his leg. "Who are you trying to protect by not disclosing who did this to you, Enzo?"

"I got mugged on the street." Kenzo massaged his temple. "Why don’t you let it go?"

"If you’re this persistent, I can only assume it’s someone I might know. And if he’s someone I know, that means a tough lawsuit." Cole slowly rose to his feet, eyes cold at his little brother. "I accept that you’re stubborn, but staying quiet and not doing anything already proved all it does is... nothing."

"I heard Filomena is currently single," he continued as he turned around to leave. "You didn’t have the chance back then. There’s an opportunity now. Don’t let it slip away from you. Unless you still think the risk isn’t worth it, then probably, you deserved to be mugged by someone else instead of robbing yourself of the chance and beating yourself over it."

With being said, Cole walked away and left Kenzo all alone. The latter kept his eyes on his brother’s back before another big sigh escaped him.

"This is why I don’t want to be here," he muttered. "He’ll just keep lecturing me about Fil or the one who did this to me. What a headache."

Meanwhile...

Sitting on the floor in the living room, Jackson and Fil were busy tending to her ’injuries.’

"Ouch," Fil let out a faint whimper while Jackson was applying the ointment to her lips. "Can you do it in a much gentler way?"

"I am." Jackson asserted. "I am putting enough pressure to see if you can handle a long, passionate kiss."

Fil frowned but didn’t retort.

"Move closer. I’m not done yet," he said, motioning his hand to her.

Fil leaned forward, wincing a little as he applied the rest on her lips.

"So?" he whispered. "Is there a kissing scene in the music video?"

"Mhm."

"There is?" he stopped and drew his head back.

"Haha. It’s not a real kiss. We’ll just have to lean a little and trick the camera angle."

Jackson scrunched up his nose in dismay, wishing for this abomination in progress to burn. Seeing his sour reaction, Fil slowly tilted her head to the side.

[He’s in love. Madly and deeply. But maybe, he just couldn’t say it.]

Suddenly, Kenzo’s words flashed across her mind. Although she diverted their attention by teasing the man, Kenzo’s words lingered.

[A slice of heaven.]

"Is this... jealousy?" she asked, making him snap his eyes back to her. "Are you jealous because I’m going to fake kiss another man?"

"Yes. Hundred percent and I’m at already 70 percent of getting pissed."

Fil blinked and blinked. ’No. Kenzo is wrong. Jackson is a straightforward person. He’s the type who says things out loud even if he shouldn’t even say them in the first place.’

"What are you going to do about it?" she blurted out. Too busy getting rid of Kenzo’s poisonous ideas out of her head, she didn’t think about her response.

"Hmm. Good question." Jackson rubbed his chin as he thought about it. "What should I do about it?"

"I mean..." Fil cleared her throat as she realized she didn’t want to make him think about what to do. He didn’t need to do anything! "... can I delete that sentence?"

"Sweetheart, do you think we’re simply exchanging messages?"

"I was hopeful." She smiled awkwardly, holding his hand with a giggle. "Don’t think, Jack. Just think about what we’re going to do tonight and not tomorrow. Live in the present."

Jackson looked at her in dismay. "You don’t even hide your motives anymore, sweetheart. I can smell —" He stopped when the doorbell rang, making both of them look at the door.

"You got a visitor," he said while Fil furrowed her brows.

"I didn’t order anything," she muttered, rising from her spot to check the person outside. When she peeked through the peephole and saw the person outside, she gasped in horror.

Vincent.

Fil looked back at Jackson, who was idling without his top just right in the living area. How could she forget? She orchestrated something so vile today, and she should be expecting Vincent to come. And yet, she forgot because Kenzo kept spewing poisonous ideas and Jackson kept her busy.

"My goodness." Fil shut her eyes and took a deep breath, looking back at Jackson with a wide smile. "Do you think... you can fit under the bed?"

"???" Jackson arched a brow, sensing another omen that was just as humiliating as falling off a railing. "Ah... nope."
