The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love -
Chapter 57: Ominous threat
Chapter 57: Ominous threat
The next day, Jia took a short trip down the hospital to meet Wu Yue, who had now regained her consciousness.
"How are you feeling now, Miss. Wu?"
She weakly nodded her head. "It’s still...painful though..."
"Don’t worry. The doctors are here to give you the best treatment."
"Thank you, Inspector..."
Jia asked with a touch of softness to her tone, "Is it okay if I ask you some questions?"
She pressed her lips and indicated her agreement with a slight nod.
"Thank you, Miss. Wu," she smiled. "First, I would like to tell you that we have caught Wang Lei. He confessed to attacking you."
Tears pooled in her eyes, remembering that night. "I was scared..." she hoarsely said, "You were doubting me of Mrs. Dai’s murder and also...I wanted to stop with this addiction. Grandma...came to know," she burst into quiet sobs, "Maybe, it’s because I disappointed her that she passed away...That’s why I wanted to stop..."
"Don’t blame yourself, Miss. Wu. I am sure your grandmother who loved you so much would have wanted to understand your reasons instead of feeling disappointed."
A quiet, regretful sigh broke free her lips. "I just g-got into some bad company," she choked. "I felt the pressure of trying out something new...I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t be firm. Then there was the exam stress too," she sniffled. "Grandma was a teacher and I was afraid that a granddaughter of s-such a good teacher would fail her. I had been performing badly in my tests for a while and I was afraid of my important entrance exam coming up...It was just too much to take..."
Jia gave her an understanding look. "I apologize if I had been harsh on you with my interrogation. I just wanted to know the truth to Mrs. Dai’s death. Harassing you wasn’t my intention."
"No it’s not your fault...I should have told you the truth. But after she died, I was afraid of suspicion falling upon me, and I just c-couldn’t come forward...Wang Lei instructed me to be quiet too."
"Why did you visit Miss. Yin in the hospital that day?"
She bit her lip. "I wondered if Mrs. Dai doubted about drugs and shared anything with her. I wanted to see how much she knew and if she did then, I-I would have requested her not to expose it to you...Inspector Song, w-will I be arrested for taking drugs?"
Her deathly pale skin indicated how terrified she was of her answer.
Jia replied. "Well, generally there are detentions or trials for serious offenders. But you have no other history of criminal records, your medical reports say that you really didn’t consume that high amount of drugs to facilitate a serious punishment and more importantly, you were courageous enough to want to change your ways and get rid of the addiction. Considering your circumstances, I think you will have to go through a mandatory detoxification and rehabilitation program. It is aimed at treating your addiction. I am sure you would need help with that."
Wu Yue tremblingly nodded.
Jia smiled and patted her head. "You can take it easy, Miss. Wu. You won’t have to go through a trial. If you help testify against Wang Lei as a witness, it will be an added advantage."
She clenched her fists, recalling the horror of that night. "I will. He hit me and left me to die. I won’t forgive him for this. I will testify if it’s required and put him behind bars!"
—
"Putting behind bars is not my style~" The Devil Doctor nicked the tip of a needle with a satisfactory smile.
In the heart of the laboratory concealed behind sturdy doors, lay a room steeped in darkness. The air within was cool and tinged with a faint scent of chemicals. Dim light filtering through the lamps from the ceiling above cast an eerie illumination. A lone computer monitor glowed with a soft, pale light. The room was enveloped in an ominous hush that amplified even the faintest sound of a click of a button.
Bojing abided by the corner of the seemingly torture chamber where he prayed for Wang Lei’s soul. Tears incessantly ran past his cheeks, trembling and feeling sorry for his fate that ended him up in Mingshen’s hands.
Wang Lei has had the bitter and horrifying experience of being trapped in this dark room where insanity permeated every corner. He resisted the handcuffs, sweat trickling down the side of his ears.
"Why did you bring me here again! Wh-where is the Inspector?"
"Of course I would bring you here again," he smiled. "I wasn’t going to let you go free since you invaded my turf. I don’t like people trespassing. I must say the subway method was quite smart. You used the lines pretty well. But I know that it cannot be the work of your brain. So mind telling me who it is?"
"I don’t know! I don’t know anything!"
Mingshen made it a point to point that glistening needle in front of him. "You know this is a very special invention of mine. The liquid inside. One stream inside and you will literally feel your blood boiling and your organs cooking in it~ You will feel so exotic as if Mount Fuji was your summer holiday destination~"
Wang Lei paled. First it was the overdose of fentanyl and now this strange liquid shining sinisterly in the syringe felt worse than his first torture method.
"Do you feel like sharing some secrets with me now~? Mingshen innocently blinked as if he was bathed in holy water.
"L-Look man...I really don’t know anything. I am just a stupid cog in a machine. I-I don’t know who sits on the upper floor..."
"So you mean to say that some ghost is leading you and you are also happily being led by an invisible entity. I guess I should increase the dose," Mingshen beamed. "Punishment for thinking that I am stupid."
"N-Nooooo!!" He burst into pleading cries. "I really don’t know anything!"
Mingshen tilted his head. "How long have you been part of this trespassing of my territory?"
"I d-don’t remember..."
"You don’t know who your Boss is and you don’t know when you entered the system either. Very convenient."
Wang Lei’s furtive glances were telling a different story to Mingshen. He knew something and he was hiding that knowledge.
"I am very good at extracting information~ Needles are my personal favorite and my forte too."
Wang Lei tried to control his guts from twisting with fear. His brain was working in hyperactive mode, seemingly gauging his options.
Mingshen stared at the beautiful glistening needle and smiled. "Time to show you a trailer."
"No, wait!" He exclaimed with a decisive note to his voice. "I-I am telling you. Stay out of this, man. You really wouldn’t want to deal with her. She won’t...s-spare you. She is everywhere. H-Her eyes are everywhere..."
"A woman boss, huh?" He gazed at him with scrutiny. "Interesting."
"Don’t ask-"
Suddenly Wang Lei sharply stopped and a moment later, his body violently trembled. His ferocious coughs aggressively echoed in the lab room until blood poured out of his mouth.
"Bojing!"
Mingshen was on his feet even before he caught the sight of blood. Bojing rushed forward and locked Wang Lei’s shoulders to halt his tenacious movements.
"Wh-why is he suddenly bleeding?" Bojing asked, confusion laced in his tears.
Mingshen observed Wang Lei’s lips growing bluer and paler and his eyes that kept rolling side by side.
"It’s poison. Take him to-"
Before he could bark the orders to admit him, Wang Lei’s chest ballooned upwards with an intake of a sharp breath and a moment later, his movements had stopped. He lay lifeless on the chair with his eyes opened wide.
Bojing checked his pulse and gasped. "Impossible...he-he is dead. H-How? C-could he be hiding poison inside his mouth and swallowed it not to expose-"
The sound of an electronic kind of a purr resonated in the room all of a sudden. Mingshen’s acute senses felt a sharp tingle and he immediately took a quick glance at the room to detect the source of the noise. But instead it seemed to appear from somewhere very close.
A distorted voice echoed. "Don’t interfere."
Mingshen slightly tilted his head, his black irises glistening with an indecipherable emotion.
"Or the next dead body will be yours, Yang Mingshen."
