Chapter 369: Sob story?
Chapter 369: Sob story?
London.
Mingshen grinned in satisfaction, imagining the look of satisfaction on Jia’s face in turn. If everybody was annoying Jia with their inflated egos then who was the best person other than Mingshen to compete with it or?
Or should I say overkill~? Compete is such a downsized word. Hehe she will be so happy, I know it~
"Xie."
"Xie."
Mingshen was ignoring those calls at first but after repeated summoning, he turned and looked back. An elderly English man stood behind him with his hands on the back and with a certain brightness in his eyes.
"From your expression I can say you know nothing about me."
"Should I be knowing you?" He arched his brow.
"Your father was my student so yes it would be nice if you had."
Mingshen blinked. "Dad? Have you taught XX university of medicine? Wait...are you William Johnson?"
"So he did talk about me."
"At passing sometimes. He never talked much about his uni days."
"I can see that. Xie was a very quiet man. Is he still like that now?"
"You mean Yang. Yang Cheng."
"How in the world was Yang Cheng a quiet man? He was quite the opposite in fact. But somehow Xie and Yang survived as each other’s roommates."
"Opposite? You mean my father was a lively person? That’s not true."
"Of course, Xie wasn’t anything like that. He was the apple of every teacher’s eye. Very studious and sincere," he said with pride which then changed into dissatisfaction, "But Yang on the other hand, always failing and fooling around with his grades. I wonder why Xie couldn’t be a positive influence on him."
Mulan entered, chuckling. "You are mixing them up again, Sir William."
He knitted his brows as he stared at her. "Mixing who?"
She offered her hand for a handshake. "Xie Mulan. Xie Zi Han’s daughter."
His eyes slightly widened. "Oh my. So you are Xie’s daughter."
"Yes."
"So you are siblings. Who is the older one?"
Mulan choked. "We-we are not siblings, Sir William. I am Xie Zi Han’s daughter. He is Yang Cheng’s son, Yang Mingshen."
"Yang’s son? That’s not possible. He looks exactly like Xie."
"Sir William!"
A woman came running and stopped before him, huffing breathlessly. She glared at him, putting her hands on her waist.
"Did you take your medicine?"
William seemingly clicked his tongue and looked away. "I did."
"No, you did not! Now come with me, Sir or you will really cost me my job!"
She then noticed Mingshen and Mulan and coughed. "Oh, I am sorry I didn’t notice you there. I need to take Sir William back."
"For his medication right?" Mulan nodded.
"What medication?" Mingshen asked.
"Alzheimer’s," she shrugged and whispered, "Dad and Sir William had talked on a video call last month too but he kept calling him Yang even then. This woman is his nurse. I don’t blame him though. Dad said that he and Uncle Cheng always hung out together back then, so he is getting confused now. Since our fathers were so close, doesn’t it hint that the future generation should get closer too~?" She winked.
Mingshen sneered. "Don’t worry. I will cut the generational trauma right here with me."
"Hey, that’s harsh! Our fathers were such good friends!" She flared her nostrils.
"So now we can be enemies. Perfect. Just the way I want it to be. Also, it seems like your GameCon is over," he arched his brow.
"Duh, it’s a big event. It still has time to end."
"I saw you talking with some big shots. Seems like your game is getting famous."
"Not getting. It’s already famous," she grinned. "All thanks to my wonderful team at Quantum. So now I am getting some big investments~" her eyes twinkled.
"Despite the game not being perfect?"
"Not perfect? How?"
He tilted his head. "I heard some gamers gossipping that playing your game sometimes gives them a massive headache."
Her eyes widened. "Headaches? That’s not possible. I am continuously monitoring the game stats and I have never received such feedback."
Heh, never received such feedback or chose to ignore it? He sneered inwardly.
Mulan shook her head. "What else do you expect from gamers? Especially novice ones at that. Pro gamers know how to take care of their health but novice ones are too glued to always level up. They hardly even step out of their rooms, which isn’t healthy now, is it?"
His eyes narrowed.
I will need to look into all those bigshots who talked to her today. Are those investors truly innocent or...
"So the convention is still ongoing but like a good friend and future wife, I came here to support my future husband in his award ceremony."
"My future wife is already supporting me by watching the ceremony live stream. And I believe in monogamy so thanks for your support but no thanks."
"Your cop friend might have hundreds of things to do today. She might not even get the time."
He smirked. "I know she will. She will clap for me too~"
—
The said friend in Beijing was in no position to smile, let alone clap. On the contrary, Jia’s mind was filled with curses.
Mingshen! What did you do!? What the hell is with you and bodily functions?
She lacked the tears to shed.
Jia suddenly found herself becoming the centre of attention at the reunion party all because of Mingshen’s needlessly sultry message.
Minmin felt her throat going dry. "J-Jia, why didn’t you tell us about your super rich boyfriend?"
"Because he is not my boyfriend," she sweated.
The woman dressed in purple, Fenhua, said, "Yes, he is but Jia still keeps lying to us and rubbing it on our faces."
"Excuse me?"
She smiled. "Don’t act so innocent, Jia. I saw you talking with your wealthy and handsome boyfriend just now on a video call. He looked like a puppy following his owner. Clearly, there is something going on between you two so why do you keep refuting it? Or is it that you want to humiliate us? We were just talking about our careers and lives and you felt to barge in with Dr. Yang’s background to show off. After all, what are we compared to the Yang family?"
Jia stared at her. "You are taking this matter to a place I didn’t even think it was possible to reach."
She sneered. "Of course it would reach at this point if you have reached all the way to Dr. Yang’s bed. What did you do to get there? Earned his pity by telling your parents’ sob story to him?"
Jia froze.
