Chapter 317: The devil’s tagging (2)

As a punishment for being too unnecessarily vocal about a certain kiss that Jia didn’t want to remember and the commentary about her breasts that she didn’t want to hear, Mingshen was now forced to keep five arm’s length distance between them.

"I just spoke the truth. Why did she get mad? She acted so stoic at the pads section," Mingshen mumbled under his breath.

He sneakily tried to bridge the gap between them but as if sensing it with her invisible radar, Jia abruptly turned around with a ferocious gaze and mouthed.

’D.I.S.T.A.N.C.E.’

His brow twitched. He took out his phone and swiftly typed a message.

A ding sounded on Jia’s phone and she read it.

’I was complimenting you. Why mad?’

She gnashed her jaw, emitting an aura of burning fire. She kept her phone back in her pocket without a reply.

Mingshen leaned against a pillar, releasing a sigh. His gaze fell on a nearby aisle which was basically the gifts section. The shelves were filled with popular gift choices and cards.

He casually strolled along the section and stopped by the card shelf, having a bunch of thank you, congratulations, wedding anniversary and birthday cards. He picked one card and stared at it.

An attendant approached him with a polite smile. "Can I help you, Sir?"

She looked down at him holding a card and smiled. "Are you looking for Sorry cards?"

Mingshen glanced at her. He looked at the card for a moment and then back at her.

"...Do they work?"

She coughed. "From a salesperson perspective, yes they do."

"What is the other perspective?"

"Who do you want to apologize to if I may ask? Your girlfriend?"

She tried to sound as professional as possible but her heart was squealing to know the answer regarding this handsome man’s relationship status.

Mingshen glanced at Jia’s direction, who was stuffing more than necessary snacks packets in her shopping trolley.

"She is not my girlfriend."

"So a friend?"

"...I don’t think we are friends either."

Then what is your relationship?

Suddenly, she let out a gasp. "S-So you are..."

Mingshen arched his brow that almost made her faint.

"You are...that kind of friend?" She whispered.

"That kind? What kind?" He blinked once.

The attendant coughed with a blush on her cheek. "Friends with benefits?"

Mingshen almost slipped off balance. He threw her a dry look. "Don’t ever say that in front of her. She will slaughter me and dump my dead body into the sacrificial fire. She loves the thought of killing me, not sleeping with me."

"..."

"Though it’s the opposite for me."

She brightened. "Ah, I got it! You like her, so you are still pursuing her."

"I don’t like her that way."

She tried very hard to not twitch her mouth. "S-Sir, you just said that it’s the opposite for you, which means...that you want to sleep with her, right?"

"I mean it’s more like I won’t mind sleeping with her if things ever come to that point."

"...So you like her?"

"No, I don’t."

She laughed. "I see. It seems that the blessing of a handsome man’s beautiful face is compensated by his lack of EQ."

"..."

Mingshen asked, "Can I drop a complaint? I have some dissatisfaction about the customer service here."

She smiled. "I am sure my manager will have the same opinion as mine."

"Just tell me if this card will work or not," he snorted.

The attendant bowed. "My apologies. I just thought that if she is your girlfriend, then the card could serve as a starting point for a conversation perhaps? But it’s just a cute card for cute mistakes. Does Sir think that his mistake was cute?"

"What is the definition of a cute mistake?"

"Hmm, maybe a silly prank gone wrong?"

"There was no prank. We fought."

"Aish. Then isn’t it better to talk to her face to face? Serious fights need serious conversations."

"What should I say?"

"That you are sorry," she blinked.

"I don’t know how to do that."

"You don’t know how to say sorry?"

"Why do you think I am holding this sorry card in my hand?"

The attendant didn’t know how to react. Sure, apologizing was always the hardest thing to do, but Mingshen’s level of cluelessness felt new to her.

From the corner of his eye, Mingshen saw Jia heading to the cash counter and he quickly straightened up to leave.

"Sir!!"

Mingshen turned and looked at her with a raised brow.

She grinned. "My dad is a chef. He says that good food always opens up a heart."

He tilted his head. "I see. I will keep that in mind."

"Thank you."

"If it works, then I won’t drop a complaint against you."

"..."

Jia stepped out of the supermarket, carrying two bags in her hands. She kept them on the ground for a moment and scrolled her phone to find a cab.

"I brought my car with me."

She looked up once, hearing Mingshen’s voice from behind her. She then focused back on her phone, expressionless.

"I am fine. You go ahead."

"We are going to the same place."

"Not really. I am heading to Huojin’s place."

Mingshen stared at her unblinkingly.

"...Why?"

She frowned and looked up. "Because he is my friend."

A car honked at a distance and Jia saw her cab approaching her. She waved her hand at the driver.

Mingshen grabbed her wrist out of nowhere and pulled her back. She turned, taken aback.

"What?"

"Do you want to have dinner with me?"

She blinked twice.

"I just said I am going to Huojin’s place."

"I am saying I am hungry."

"There are many food outlets around the supermarket at a walking distance."

"You are also hungry."

"Huojin’s place will have dinner too."

"I want to go with you."

Her eyes narrowed. "And I don’t."

Things came to a standstill.

The cab driver lowered the car window. "Miss, where do you want to go?"

Jia uncooked his fingers from her wrist and bent down to pick up her grocery bags. Mingshen quickly bent and resisted from her doing so.

Jia released a slow, tired breath. "Mingshen."

"Don’t..."

She looked into his eyes that were pining with hopes and pleas.

"Don’t go to his place... please."
