Chapter 290: The devil’s lesson

Chapter 290: The devil’s lesson

Jia slowly poked her head out of her guestroom the next morning. The corridor was silent and empty. As she walked, she came across a room whose door was all the way open. She was about to pass by it completely when she heard a humming and whistling sound from inside.

She casually glanced at the direction and almost stumbled off her foot the next second. Her lips parted, dumbfounded.

There he was, a half-naked Mingshen with his back facing her as he wiped his wet hair with the towel. He was humming some merry tune that clearly expressed his jolly mood.

Her brows heavily twitched and she quickly averted her gaze. She let out a heavy cough, twice.

"At least have a little decency to close the door and change."

Mingshen turned and his face immediately shone so brightly that even the sun wouldn’t be able to compete with it.

"Spicyyyyyyyyy! You came to meet me first thing in the morning~"

"..."

He threw the towel away and was already at the door, grinning at her. "Today is going to be a great day~ It cannot get any more lucky when you see your wife’s beautiful face first thing in the morning."

She threw a glare at him. "Who is your wife?"

He pointed his finger at her, which made her scoff.

"I guess you are not awake yet, considering how you are still dreaming. Did you sleepwalk and sleepbath?" She touched her chin in suspicion.

He tilted his head. "Maybe? I didn’t sleep so well last night anyway."

She blinked once. "Really?"

"How could I when you were so close to me yet so far? By the middle of the night I lamented the fact that we were in separate rooms."

She grimaced. "We are not together to share the same room, idiot."

She then looked past him, casually glancing across his room. For some reason, she had this innate curiosity to know what the narcissist devil doctor’s room looked like.

Will I find some skeletons? Or a secret room all splashed with blood?

Mingshen leaned away from his door and the space widened at the entrance. "Come in."

The corner of her mouth twitched. "I didn’t say anything."

"I can understand the love language of your eyes too~"

"Where is that understanding when I express you to stay far away from me?"

"Those false signals get automatically blocked off."

Her expression twisted.

Calling them false for his convenience...

She coughed and said seriously, "I am not interested in seeing-"

Mingshen held her hand and pulled her in. "Get in already."

Jia glared at him for being apparently pulled in against her wishes but it quickly died down when she saw how massive his room was. She thought she was mentally prepared for pretty much anything when it came to rich people and their habitat but apparently, she hadn’t.

This room alone can house my entire flat...! What is this injustice?

She couldn’t help but grit her teeth at him. "I hate you."

He smiled. "This room will be yours too if you juuuuuust change your last name to Yang~"

Jia snorted and then noticed a large picture frame on the wall. It wasn’t a regular picture or a painting but an A4 size drawing neatly framed in it. It showed a much older boy with a younger boy as if he was teaching him something.

"What does this mean?" Jia asked as she leaned a bit.

Mingshen took a look and said, "Bojing drew it. Apparently, he was harping me for hanging it on my wall."

In the picture, the older boy was using chopsticks to pick up a noodle and the little boy looked like he was mimicking his actions.

She remembered how Bojing always called Mingshen as his benefactor and who took the responsibility to teach him right from education to eating food and table manners and everything else.

It brought a soft and warm smile to her lips. She remembered she was just like this with Lihua. Teaching her all kinds of things as an elder sister.

She moved her gaze to find other similar drawings hung on the wall. She expected to find a luxurious room, screaming of his narcissistic personality but it didn’t reflect any of that. Contrary to his everyday actions, his room was quite minimalistic, walls painted with pastel colors.

As Jia was engrossed in the adorable drawings, a certain devil was also engrossed in the person watching the drawings. His black eyes stared at her, seeing her walk around his room with her hands on her back.

He stared at her lips that were softly smiling and chuckling, looking at the little drawings. He saw her curiously checking out his bookshelf and grazing her fingers across the very thick medical textbooks.

She took out one of the textbooks and opened some middle pages. She read through some of the paragraphs after which apparently, her head started to spin with all the medical jargon.

He didn’t realize when he moved from his place but now he stood behind Jia, his eyes staring at her, who was reading the textbook with concentration.

"The book is heavy," he commented.

Jia replied without turning back. "Criminal and law books are as heavier and thicker as these. I am used to the weight."

She brought the book closer to her face as she strained her eyes. She murmured to herself. "What are intercostal muscles?"

Mingshen lifted his finger, brushing away a lock of her hair from her cheek. Feeling that gesture, she looked up from the textbook.

...What is he doing?

His fingers then traced his way from cheek to her chest as he leaned over her shoulder, close enough to feel his naked chest brushing against her back. His voice was a soft rumble as he spoke in her ear.

"Intercostal muscles expand and contract the chest cavity with each breath you take."

He applied a slight pressure at the center of her chest and whispered, "It’s contracting now as you breathe in and..." he said after a moment, "now it’s expanding as you breathe out. Each inhale pulling, each exhale relaxing...and back again. Just like how you are doing now. But I wonder...why do I feel your breaths trembling a bit, Jia?"
