Chapter 289: Something yet not seen
Where the night had settled in the Yang mansion, it was just starting to dawn at a particular house where a young woman picked up her VR headsets.
A hand caught her wrist and she looked up with her brows slightly furrowed.
"Where are my headsets?" Huojin’s eyes narrowed. "And don’t give an excuse like last time that you forgot."
Beiye pouted. "I had genuinely forgotten."
"Yeah, sure. Hand me over my set now."
She slightly clicked her tongue and took out another pair from her bag. "You are quite the player, are you not?"
"I just play so-so."
"I am not talking about Survival Grounds."
"Then?"
"Your beautiful neighbor is interested in you."
"Excuse me? Mrs. Zhong?" He blinked, confused. "She is married."
"Doesn’t mean she cannot have the hots for you. She was giving me quite the stare, you know~ Hostile stare."
He grimaced. "I would prefer you rather pay attention to the game."
"I like paying attention to you though," her eyes twinkled.
"Should I pay attention to you too?"
She beamed. "Of course!"
"Then how about I make you wear the handcuffs? Which I should have at that charity night."
"But you didn’t."
"You work at Quantum Games and you were at the gathering. I wasn’t gonna lose my golden egg of information."
"But you didn’t tell your cop friend."
"I will eventually tell her. She would be more in favor of taking you into custody whereas I think you will do a fine job in being a double agent," he smiled.
"What if I double cross you?"
"My handcuffs will reach you faster than that thought would pop up in your head."
"I wouldn’t mind if you have sadistic fetishes," she smiled.
His brow twitched.
Why is it increasingly getting difficult to talk to her?
Beiye wore her headset and asked, "Is it only because you wanted me to be your spy that you let me go?"
"What do you mean?"
"Didn’t you plant Zexi as your informant?"
His eyes squinted. "She is there too. But somehow, you made your way into that private gathering. I want to know how."
"I told you that. I am a part of She. I think you also saw my tattoo. I wouldn’t mind exposing my neck for you once more~"
"How did you get into She?"
"Through the game," she blinked. "I told you this too. I have already answered all your questions."
"You haven’t answered as to why you are so specifically focused on playing the game with that teen. LordKnight18, is it?"
"Teen?"
"The same teen we caught that evening. The one who was harassing Jia and his father came to bail him out. Lang Yu. We got to know that many cult members have been playing this game and he told us his game ID. And for some reason, you are really sticking to his side, leveling up with him."
Beiye inched closer and whispered. "Is this jealousy I smell, Inspector?"
Huojin ignored her flirting and said, "There is something you want to know. You are not in the cult because you believe in that leader’s gibberish about women and what not. I don’t think you agree that a woman’s genitals should be mutilated."
"Women can also be very nasty towards other women, you know."
"But you are not one of them."
She frowned. "The tattoo is literally on my neck."
Huojin stared at her. "You are not even capable of leaking Geng Anhe’s middle school picture to take revenge on her. You made her admit her wrongdoings, including what the guys did to Yong at the karaoke. She did it because you forced her and you forced her because you didn’t want to take the last step yourself."
He shook his head.
"You never wanted to leak that picture because you know you don’t want to stoop to her level. There was no need to make her admit about Yong’s harassment. Only your justice should have been enough for you. But you did it anyway because you wanted to see Yong getting justice too. As a woman yourself, you connected with her on a very basic level about what she went through. I don’t think somebody with that mentality will think of joining such a cult which does the exact opposite of your beliefs."
Beiye chuckled. "You give quite the nice spin."
"It’s the truth," he remained firm. "I am not here with you just to figure out about Quantum Games and She’s connection. Now, I want to know what you want to know in this game. There is something more that we are not seeing yet, but you know it exists. That’s why you play with Lang Yu so often."
"I am playing because you want me to play."
"And also for your own answers."
She said nothing.
Huojin placed his VR headset against his eyes and clipped it at the back of his head.
"Hopefully, I will find what you are trying to find too. Let’s start, shall we?"

Zhang Feiyu tiredly returned home after the trip from hospital. His eyes were red and aching. There was still no improvement in Zhang Luqi’s state and everyday felt more painful than the previous one.
He dragged himself to the bedroom and his gaze fell on his wife’s office bag. He wiped his eyes and unzipped it to find her laptop. He remembered how Zexi had called him one day to enquire about it.
Is her laptop that important...?
He slowly opened it and switched it on. A login screen popped up before him. Her username was already filled in.
Password...What password would Luqi keep? He blankly thought.
He tried some combinations and to his surprise, his name and birthdate pair hit the mark after quite some tries. That only made his heart swell further.
Luqi...
Zhang Feiyu started browsing through her laptop in hopes to understand what was going on. But he couldn’t find any file or folder worth checking out.
A faint memory visited him of his wife laughing heartily.
You are so bad at hiding things Feiyu. That’s why you are so cute! But you should learn something from me. You hide things where it is least expected to be found.
Zhang Feiyu blinked.
Yeah...if Luqi had to keep something secret then...
He saw a long night ahead of him.
I will have to comb through everything.
