After the cake was cut and the birthday girl was smothered with gifts, Huojin dragged her aside and asked eagerly, "What happened? Tell me everything!"

"About what?" Jia asked, confused.

"You and Mingshen and your lovely date~ What surprises did he give you?"

Bojing and Shilin had also joined, eager to know how her day had gone by.

"When did you change your profession to be a gossip aunty?" she dryly asked.

"Don’t change the subject!"

"Nothing happened for your information!"

"You cannot fool my sharp senses," his eyes narrowed, "You always avoid Mingshen but today, that avoidance and ignorance looks extra suspicious."

She smiled dangerously. "Do you want me to punch your face?"

He gasped tearfully. "Did you two finally sleep together-Ow, ow!"

Jia had pinched his waist hard.

"Jeez. You are not fun at all. Did nothing seriously happen?"

The memories of the kisses were once again threatening to break her wall and invade but she did her best not to let them.

"Apart from sucking my blood, nothing else."

Curse you Mingshen! She inwardly gritted her teeth.

"S-Sis, did you not e-enjoy at the private club?" Bojing tearfully asked.

"Well...I wouldn’t say I didn’t enjoy it but," she cleared her throat, "t-too expensive for my taste."

Bojing beamed. "Then it’s not a problem! Money w-was never an issue...I thought B-Boss was bullying you again."

Suddenly, his half-naked chest from the hot spring’s time sprung in front of her eyes as if it had its own life. Her gaze darkened.

That was a different kind of bullying!

Bojing wiped his eyes. "Thank God h-he didn’t bully you. He was very s-serious about taking you out."

Jia paused. "You knew about the plan?"

Shilin said, "Boss is Boss. He didn’t explicitly tell us. But he absolutely wanted to take you to the club on your birthday. We saw him on calls many times of the day, probably with the club’s manager. We have never seen him so focused outside of lab’s work before."

She glanced at Mingshen’s side with an indescribable emotion, who was doing his usual job of fanning Lihua’s flames of fury with a sneer on his lips.

"Is somebody’s heart melting~?" Huojin sheepishly grinned.

Jia narrowed her eyes. "Should I melt your heart for real?"

"Tsk. Booooringggg," he rolled his eyes.

She sighed. "You tell me what’s going on with the case?"

His expression twitched. "You seriously want to discuss the case on your birthday?"

"Doesn’t hurt to just get updated..."

He glared at her. "No means no."

"Ugh. A little bit please. Then I won’t ask anything."

Huojin made a face. "Just a teensy tiny bit. Zexi said there is going to be some coding competition in Quantum Games. She and Li Beiye are participating. If Zexi wins, then she would get included in one of the most important projects that Zhang Luqi was a part of."

Jia’s eyes widened.

"Yup, you are right. We will get closer to figuring out what kinds of people Zhang Luqi worked with and what she was doing in that project."

Shilin raised a concern. "But the competition is very tough. Only two people are going to get selected out of thirty odd participants."

Bojing beamed with pride. "Zexi is very smart! I-I know for sure that sh-she will win the competition!"

He smiled. "I hope so."

Jia said, "Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Anything you learned from the people we caught from the She gathering?"

"Only that Quantum Games seems to be the common link for many people who became a part of the cult. Somehow the game is connected. We still don’t know how. But remember that teen kid who was hitting on you that evening?"

"Yeah."

He slightly cleared his throat. "...I am working with him to figure out what exactly happens in the game. Somehow, that game is making way for people to get aware of this cult and probably join it too."

Jia looked thoughtful.

How can a game and a cult be...?

She just couldn’t join the dots as of yet. She released a sigh.

"At least we have some hope from this competition. But nothing is going well from my side."

Bojing blinked. "What do you m-mean, sis?"

Jia said how she got to know about Yong’s connection with the red-light district, Huayuan, from Anhe. And how she failed in her attempt to enter the district and get information about her.

Bojing burst into tears. "I-It’s impossible for cops to go to Huayuan sis...T-The leader there has very strict r-rules about the cops and the underworld..."

Shilin slightly tilted his head. "Are you sure you can trust Anhe’s words? If you rely too much on her, you could be wasting time chasing after Yong in Huayuan."

Jia shook her head. "I think I can believe her. Well for one, Anhe doesn’t like Yong so in that sense, she would really like her to get into trouble. So she won’t bluff. A twisted reason but applicable all the same."

Huojin nodded.

"But the problem is that they are not letting me in. I was thinking if I could ask Wei...? I heard from him that as the Mafia King, he visits the district every month. Maybe I can ask him to include me for this month’s visit."

Bojing shook his head and cried further. "That visit is a-already done. It’s always o-on the 19th of the month."

"..."

"T-They won’t make a s-special exception for B-Boss Wei to visit again. I-I don’t think that even next month, the l-leader would allow a cop to join B-Boss Wei. They are very s-strict with their rules."

"Ughhh..." Jia got a headache.

The 19th of the next month was still farther away and she wasn’t at the liberty to wait for that long.

"But I won’t give up," she looked determined. "I will keep knocking on Huayuan’s door until they open it for me. Yong is an important key to finding out the cult’s leader, so I absolutely won’t give up on her. I will find her at any cost."

"That looks like a long road," Shilin said. "I know Huayuan by its reputation too. Like Senior Lu says, it is almost impossible for the cops or underworld people to get entry unless in very exceptional circumstances."

"Nothing moves if you give up," she smiled. "So I will keep trying because I am not a quitter."
