Chapter 152: The devil’s humanity

Chapter 152: The devil’s humanity

"What are you talking about?"

Mingshen smirked. "It’s cute when you act ignorant~ Do you still have my love letter I so passionately handed to you that day?"

Jia scowled. "I had already thrown it away. It was useless to give it to me."

She ignored him altogether and continued rubbing the back of her knee to alleviate some pain.

"So you have nothing to say about the fact that you practically drowned and you didn’t even notice it?"

"I didn’t drown."

"That’s because I didn’t let you," his brow arched. "Otherwise you were all set to greet the sea."

Jia glared at him, irked. "Why do you care about it anyway? I was just walking a little deeper into the sea and I stumbled. It was hard to balance myself with the crutch and all. It’s as simple as that."

"Is it now?"

He stared at her, seemingly scrutinizing her answer.

She cleared her throat. "Thank you for saving me, but it was just an unfortunate accident."

She went back to massaging her knee again when he said, "Stop. Lift your skirt."

Her mouth twitched. "Excuse me?"

"Do you not trust me?" He asked with a shady smile.

"No," was her instantaneous response.

He sighed in defeat. "Then it will be heartbreaking for little chilli to hear the news of her sister’s near drowning-"

"No! Why are you bringing Lihua in between all of this? You don’t need to tell her anything! Okay? It was just an accident, nothing else! You will get her all worried for no reason and I don’t want that. I am fine. I am really fine!"

Jia exclaimed while she gasped simultaneously. She looked as if she ran a marathon with her chest heaving back and forth.

Mingshen tilted his head, his black irises watching her like a hawk. "It wasn’t necessary to be that aggressive."

Her breaths slowed down and she narrowed her eyes. "You are unpredictable. I never know what you will do."

"Very convenient to blame it on me, isn’t it?" He smiled.

Mingshen then took out an ice pack from the bag that the receptionist had given him. Jia then realized that it was to treat her pain. She coughed and slightly pulled her dress back.

He lifted her knee, placing the ice pack beneath it. Jia slightly shuddered with the chilliness. He then took out a gel and applied to the surrounding swelling.

"I-I can do that."

Mingshen gave her a twisted smile. "I don’t trust you with your knee anymore. It seems you have taken an oath to keep torturing it."

She raised her brow. "Is that a pinch of humanity I am seeing?"

"What is that? I am just doing what I need to to keep my research subject in a perfect condition. Wait, don’t tell me that you are falling for me," his eyes shone as if he had found a treasure.

Yeah I hadn’t expected a normal answer anyway...

He chuckled. "No morning walks or beach walks for you anymore."

Her expression twisted. "How am I supposed to enjoy my vacation then?"

"You cannot walk to the point that you would need to upgrade yourself from a crutch to a wheelchair," he sneered.

"..."

Okay, a wheelchair will be too bothersome. I can hardly bear this cane!

Thirty minutes later, he forced her to gulp down a bitter medicine that she hated but compared to running his mouth in front of Lihua, the medicine was a far better option.

He stretched his hands and yawned. "Time for an afternoon nap~"

He went straight to the couch and made himself comfortable.

Jia looked at him, stunned. "You are sleeping here?"

"My afternoon nap is a part of my precious beauty routine," he smiled. "I won’t compromise it for anything. And there are no other rooms available anyway~"

Her gaze darkened.

I will have to share a room with him?

Mingshen was pleased with her dissatisfaction that made his nap time all the more merry. He closed his eyes and it didn’t take long for him to fall asleep.

Jia collapsed back, tired. She stared at her phone’s wallpaper. Weiyun and Limei’s adorable faces brought a smile to her lips. She didn’t realize when but eventually she felt her eyelids closing themselves too.

Unknownst to her, Mingshen had ever so slightly lowered his arm, peeking at her through a narrow slit from his elbow. He stared at her expressionlessly and went back to sleep a moment later.

It was evening when they left the hotel. As they did, the receptionist didn’t fail to wave them with zealousness that Jia didn’t expect to witness.

"It was nice to have you here, Sir, Mam! Hope you come here again!"

Jia was dumbfounded to see her sunny and jolly expression.

Did you forget that this devil had threatened you? How come you are so beaming with joy?

"Money makes everybody happy," he chirped, "Do you need me to carry you like before? I will be happy to~"

"No, thanks. That one time was enough to give me a heart attack."

"Aish, don’t talk about heart attacks, Spicy. Your handsome doctor is right here to make that heart beat wildly again for me~ A heart attack will never be able to touch you~" he winked.

"..."

Can I just disappear?

As they reached the hotel, Jia’s thoughts immediately went back to the case. She was now curious how far the progress had reached.

"Miss. Song!!"

A frantic voice approached her and from afar, they saw Dong Haoyu sprinting at her as if his life was on the line.

Jia asked, "What happened? Why are you in such a hurry?"

"You..." he gasped breathlessly as his pale face grew even whiter, "you have to help me...Please...!"

"Help?" She was confused. "I don’t understand."

"Th-That senior cop...H-He has taken Mey into arrest for Director Wan’s murder!"

"Hooo..." Mingshen cocked his brow. "So the case is solved?"

Dong Haoyu’s expression turned ugly. "Solved like hell! Mey is innocent! She didn’t kill Director Wan. This is ridiculous! They have got the wrong person. That’s why you have to help me, Miss. Song. Y-you are a cop too, right? Please do something! Please save Mey!" He broke down.
