Chapter 122: The Devil Doctor is a gentleman
Chapter 122: The Devil Doctor is a gentleman
Darkness engulfed Jia’s house. Even the coffee mug just a few feet away from him wasn’t visible to Mingshen anymore.
"It’s too dark, Spicy," he commented, tilting his head.
Jia grimaced in darkness. "Thanks for pointing out the obvious."
"I am seriously asking. What happened to the power?"
"It’s out."
"Out?"
"What is your definition of power going out, Mingshen? It happens here from time to time."
"Where is the generator here?"
"I don’t have a generator here."
She heard a pitiful gasp. "You live without electricity here? Doesn’t it feel like you are in exile? Do you want to live like a monk?"
Ah I hate rich people so much...
Jia stood up and switched on the mobile’s flashlight. She cautiously limped her way to the kitchen. She wanted to open the lower end of the drawer but her knee hurt as she did.
"What are you looking for?"
A sultry voice whispered in her ear, making her heart almost jump out of her chest. "Don’t creep up like a hooligan!"
"I take grave offense in you calling a handsome existence as mine a hooligan," he frowned.
Mingshen opened the drawer she was looking for and asked, "What is in here?"
"Take out the candles."
His eyes radiated brilliance. "So that’s what you were planning. A candle light dinner with me~ How romantic, Spicy."
"Take out the candles before I turn you into one myself. Your burning head would be a good source of light."
He lit up one candle and stared at it curiously. "Spicy, doesn’t this intimate lighting remind you of something?"
"Nothing at all."
"Aish. Think a little harder~ You know a certain place at my lab also enjoys this dim lighting."
She smiled. "Great. Then lock yourself up in there and throw the key far, far, faaaaar away."
They walked back and Mingshen said, "The power is still not back."
"Why do you think the candle is out then?"
"It’s too hot in here."
She beamed. "Well didn’t you want to enjoy dinner at my house? How about I let you taste one of the finest experiences you would ever have? Certainly not with your platinum level lifestyle in the Yang mansion. Welcome to the real world~"
His eyes narrowed. "Do you think something like this can defeat me?"
She sneered. "Tell that to your sweating forehead which is too used to the air conditioning."
They went back and Jia lamented the state of her once beautiful house through little light that she could see. She then started to walk towards her bedroom.
Ah shit...there is no power for a hot water bath.
Her head hung low in disappointment. She felt all sticky and sweaty and didn’t have the patience to wait for the power to return.
"You are going the wrong way, Spicy~ The dinner is here."
She looked back and squinted her eyes. "I am going to freshen up. By the time I come back, I want my living room exactly the way it was and you should be gone from my house."
Mingshen’s eyes twinkled. "A cold shower will make you sick at this time and I wonder if you could properly walk around on the wet floor."
"I will manage. You don’t forget what I just said," she warned.
Her figure disappeared into the bedroom. Five long minutes later, the faint sound of the shower was heard.
With his hands in his pockets, he stared towards her bedroom in the dark silence. He slowly made his way through the furniture to the TV side’s table again. Switching on his mobile’s flashlight, he rummaged through the drawers. In the last drawer at the end, he found a crumpled piece of paper neatly stacked in the middle of other diaries. He read the creased paper and arched his brow, smiling to himself.
He then put the paper back and without any qualms headed towards the bedroom. He pressed his finger on the flashlight source to only let minimal light out.
On the bedside table, he found a second picture frame placed upside down. He took a look and saw it was another family picture. He put it back and began sifting through those drawers too. There was just the usual stuff.
"Ah fuck!"
Mingshen stopped and immediately switched off his flashlight. Her painful groans mildly echoed from inside the bathroom.
He stood in front of the bathroom door and smiled. "Knock knock."
Silence ensued for a few moments.
"What are you doing in my bedroom?" Her angry voice growled.
"Hm~? I heard a damsel’s voice in distress and as a doctor and gentleman both, how could I not come? You slipped on the wet floor just like I thought you would, didn’t you?" He chirped.
"You leave right now! Aren’t you ashamed of walking into a woman’s bedroom like that?"
"And then you would have pointed out my shame if I hadn’t come to check on you~"
"I want you out of my house here so why would I willingly ask you to come to my bedroom!?"
He shook his index finger in denial. "I need to check how much worse it has gotten."
"You are enjoying this, aren’t you?"
"I am still salty about the fact that you walked out of the luxurious feast I ordered and just when I got the perfect setup done too," he dramatically released a sigh.
From inside the bathroom, Jia was beginning to curse Huojin because it all started from his suggestion to let Mingshen accompany her.
I will kill you, Huojin!
She tried to maintain her calm and quietly said, "I am in my bathrobe."
"So? I don’t care if you are naked. I am only interested in seeing your injured knee," he said nonchalantly.
"There is something called as a preference to possibly want a female doctor at this time?" she gritted her teeth.
"There is something called as beggars can’t be choosers," he sneered.
"I hate you!"
After a long time, Jia grudgingly opened the bathroom’s door. She was limping even worse than before with her back arched too low for her comfort. The crutch trembled in her hand. She gasped breathlessly in discomfort. She placed the lit candle on a nearby stand as she leaned against the door for support. Soft yellow light enveloped the room.
"Were you so passionately lost in me that got you to this state?" he chuckled, making her throw a glare at him.
Mingshen held out his hand towards her. "Come here."
