Chapter 533: Who would have thought that medical treatment could be enjoyable?

Neel came just when the servants told us dinner would be ready soon, so we decided to call Izzy and eat first.

Dinner was nice, filled with the conversation about the mana transfusion stuff between three people while I and Natha listening blankly. Well...I was the one who listened blankly; Natha could somewhat follow what they said and gave me some enlightenment from time to time.

Oh, whatever. I decided to just eat well and receive the treatment well later, like the good patient that I was. Mm.

[Good, good! Papa eat well!]

Look, even my little bird praised me. I patted the green head and fed Jade some more cocoa jelly that Natha generously allowed that night. This stingy husband of mine even allowed the little bird to sleep with us tonight. Was it a gift for being such a sweet child?

Or was it because we were already doing it earlier anyway?

"The kid will probably get busy training after this, so I give some lat-minute consolation," was what Natha told me when we were changing before bed that night.

Izzy and Neel had retreated to the nursery, and Zia volunteered herself to be an assistant--although I had a feeling she just wanted to keep an eye on her boyfriend. D’Ara would check on the inventors’ progress from time to time, and had agreed to give Jade some pointer in between.

Suddenly, I was reminded of the time Jade spending time away last time, before the little bird revealed its hard-earned transformation ability. I wondered what Jade would show as a result this time; the power-up was of little concern to me, but it was always fun thinking about how your child would grow.

Oh, but...

"I don’t really want Jade to grow more..." I pursed my lips, letting out a sentiment that I could only say because Jade wasn’t there. "I want Jade to stay cute..."

"Didn’t you say you’ll love Jade no matter what form he is in?" Natha smirked.

"That’s why I’m saying this behind Jade’s back," I whispered carefully, prompting a peal of laughter from him.

I mean...I couldn’t help it! Jade was the cutest at this point, and I wanted Shwa to have a figure of older sibling that wasn’t so far in age with them. Jade’s mental age and the human form’s age were perfect for our upcoming newborn.

Still, there was no way I would tell someone who was eager to grow to stay as they were. Especially since Jade wanted to grow up for me and Shwa.

Ahh...I was so blessed with relationships, wasn’t I?

"I’m sure the kid will stay cute," Natha shrugged while braiding my hair. "Because you said you prefer the kid to stay cute."

"Oh!"

What an obedient child! I showered the little bird with kisses before sleeping that night. Jade was confused, but also happy; bragging adorably to Natha about how I kissed it more than I kissed Natha.

"Oh? Is this...the mana ’bag’?"

I blinked in intrigued at something that looked like an ornate tube...or a lantern? Anyway, it definitely wasn’t the visual of a ’bag’ I associated with blood transfusion. The size, however, was pretty similar. Also, the fact that they could be hanged on a rack.

"Yeah, that’s the third try," Izzy said, looking sleep-deprived but also somewhat excited.

Well, it was understandable. After all, this mana transfusion was a new concept, and the device they made would be the first of its kind. If this worked, not only could it help me, but it could become a paradigm shift for how vampires received mana.

"I think we can go with this one," Neel said--sounded even more energized than the elf. "I already checked on the pressure durability, and it’s good enough."

"Alright, we’ll go with this one," Izzy agreed. "We can keep improving it in the future, but let’s go with this since we’re in a time constraint."

"Umm...you don’t really have to finish it tomorrow, you know..." I scratched my cheek, feeling bad for the extra hard work that made them forgo sleep.

But Izzy grabbed a cookie and pushed it in my mouth. "The patient should shut up. The doctor said we need to make it quickly, so we’ll listen to her."

Taking the cookie out of my mouth, I asked with pursed lips. "By doctor...you mean D’Ara?"

"Who else?" Neel shrugged. "Anyway, are you afraid of needles, Boss?"

"No?" I bit the cookie and replied nonchalantly. "I mean...I was a patient most of my life, so needles were just...whatever."

"So you can accept any size, right?"

"Well..."

"No, no, don’t worry. I’ll make it normal size," Neel waved her hand dismissively before pouring her concentration back on...making an injection needle, I guess?

Since she seemed to be busy, I turned to Izzy who was staring at a blueprint of...flow regulator, I think? How interesting. "Umm...can I touch this?" I pointed at the nice-looking container.

"Yeah, sure. Just don’t break it or anything," Izzi waved his hand too and I was left alone while they got busy with the other part of the transfusion set.

Well, I shouldn’t disturb them in the first place. But I was bored since Natha had a phone meeting in the bedroom and Jade was training somewhere, and well...I was curious too.

And I wasn’t wrong--this turned out to be more interesting than I initially thought.

The container, which looked like an ornate lantern, was made with materials resembling the communication orb--although when I peeked at the list of the materials, it resembled a magic staff more. You know...the top part that looked like crystal and could store mana...

Ooh! I get it now!

Well, it made sense. They did need to make a container that could store mana. That was like the least of the problems, however. It wasn’t ’storing’ mana that was important, but transferring it safely.

In the case of magic staff, mana was being collected at the crystal top with the help of magic stones as a catalyst and a stabilizer. Once it was used, however, the mana was converted directly into a spell as an output. Meanwhile, what we were trying to achieve was moving the mana as it was, as a fuel without converting it to energy.

Mana, however, was an energy that was peculiar for my modern Earth brain to grasp. What I could say was that it was neither gas, liquid, or solid. It moved with its own principle that I, as someone who had only been here for a year and a half, could not explain. Sometimes, it even felt like it was sentient, moved by following life force and the world’s whim.

Anyway, it was hard to move this substance from place to place in concentrated form. The closest I could do of moving mana as mana was by forming the ball of pure energy that Jade would eat. But Jade was able to absorb it simply because elemental birds were pure magical creatures whose whole body basically made of magic. Other creatures? Nuh-uh.

That was why, containing the mana was the easiest part of this transfusion concept. Taking it out of someone’s body in such a way that would keep the mana purely as mana and flowing it to someone else in the same condition was the big homework.

So...wasn’t it interesting how they actually going to use needles?

I mean...how did you take mana from someone’s body using a needle? And tube, I guessed? How did that work? Was the mana going to be in a liquid form?

"Aaaah! I’m so curious!" I screamed into the cushion--in the bedroom, of course. Once Natha was done with his business call, I told him about the progress and ended up getting even more curious.

"You’ll be the one who experiences it first hand anyway," Natha chuckled and patted my head, which was still buried in the cushion.

"Well, it’s true, but..." I raised my head and looked up at the ceiling. A grin slowly formed in my lips. "You know...even though I had gotten used to needles, biopsy, transfusions--all of those things...it always remained as a bad memory for me."

Natha looked at me silently, and I shifted to lay my head on his lap while hugging the cushion.

"So honestly...I was a bit apprehensive at first. I mean--of course I knew it was for my own good, but I also couldn’t help but think ’ah...is there no other way? Must it be this way’...you know, things like that," I added. "But..."

Hugging the cushion tighter, my toes wiggled as I felt the unexpected excitement.

"But now...I don’t think it’s bad anymore," I laughed. "I even looking forward to it, since I’m so curious! Will it be liquid like blood? Like saline solution? Oh! Maybe it’s going to be like the liquid elemental mana that the drows made? What do you think, Nat--"

When I looked up to face Natha, my vision suddenly got darkened, shaded by Natha’s face that got closer and closer until his lips touched mine. Softly, gently, almost like he was kissing a fragile porcelain.

Was I a fragile porcelain?

I blinked in surprise when he pulled away, because I could still feel the slight tremble of his lips. The silver eyes that looked at me deeply contained all kinds of feelings that I couldn’t dechiper in the short duration of our kiss.

"Nat?"

"I think it’ll go well," he said while brushing some stray hair off my face, smiling so gently I was blushing all over. "Because I love you so much."

...pfft! What kind of reasoning was that?

Well...I liked it, though. I liked it very much.
