Chapter 532: When the Gods don’t do their work, ask the semi-deity

"Really?" Natha, for some reason, held me tightly as he faced D’Ara. "You truly did it? It’s not a...temporary thing or just..."

He couldn’t even finish his words. His heart, which I could feel on my back, was beating so hard.

He was nervous; almost as nervous as our wedding day. He must have been suppressing his expectations since earlier, and he became so scared of it being squashed. I held his hands tightly, feeling their increasing cold as we stared at D’Ara waiting for an answer.

"Do you think I’ll play about this kind of thing?" D’Ara replied sharply, sitting herself in an armchair and crossing her arms. "Now get me someone who can. make that...transfusion bag thing you told me about."

Natha and I immediately turned toward Zia, who flinched and looked at us in confusion. "Zia, fetch your boyfriend."

The succubus replied in flusters. "W-who’s my--"

"Just fetch him!" Natha snapped in a low tone, definitely scary enough for Zia to scramble to the door and run to the research tower.

As we waited for them, the servants were also scrambling to fetch the wine, cookies, cakes, and chocolates we specially prepared for D’Ara. It was placed in a special cupboard and not even Jade could beg us to open it.

A good decision to serve it, since D’Ara looked like she had been awake for days doing Gods’ work. She gulped the wine like it was water, and donned a bottle of it before Zia even came back.

Well...I guessed she was truly pulling out a solution that not even Mother could give me, so...

It was a good thing that a bottle of wine was really like a bottle of water for someone who had been drinking for thousands of years.

J’ade, the sweet bird that it was, delivered cookies and chocolates to D’Ara’s hand between the glasses of wine. If some of them found their way to the little bird’s mouth...well, let’s just call it labor pay. When she went halfway through the second bottle, the door finally opened with Zia dragging Izzy by hand.

The elf, who was still in his casual clothes and seemed to be dragged in the middle of his nap, blinked in confusion. He looked at me, and then D’Ara, and then Zia, who only shrugged in response.

"Boy, you know blood transfusion, don’t you?" D’Ara put her wine glass down and cut straight to the case.

Naturally, Izzy only got more confused. I bet he never thought he would be hearing ’blood transfusion’ coming from one of the most ancient beings in this world. He glanced at me first before replying, and I nodded my head vigorously. "Uhh...yes?" he blinked and replied while tidying the coat Zia must have thrown him haphazardly earlier. "I mean...at least what it looks like, not how--"

"That’s enough," D’Ara snapped her fingers, and Izzy’s clothes suddenly became pristine--even his messy hair magically combed. "Just make the bags and the...whatever it is connecting them to the person."

Izzy, straightening his shoulder in reflex at the sensation of magic grooming his appearance, tilted his head. "...what will be in the bag?" he asked belatedly as his brain slowly whirring back. He glanced at me and the golden eyes narrowed slightly. "Mana?"

I guessed he couldn’t be an inventor and a hated engineer if he wasn’t actually smart, huh? Looked at him using his brain power after a long time.

"Oh, you’re smart, aren’t you?" D’Ara smiled. I could tell she was actually impressed. "How long do you need to make it?"

Perhaps sensing the serious atmosphere, Izzy suddenly entered his serious working mode. He should be able to quickly deduce what the mana transfusion would be used for and he should have heard about my situation from Zia.

"Depends on the material’s availability and how much you need me to make," he tapped his lips to ponder. "As long as all the materials are available, I can get it done in two...no, thirty hours. It’ll be faster if I do it with someone else--she’s better at manipulating raw materials..."

"I...I’ll fetch Neel," Zia, as if determining her role, scrambling out of the door again.

"Thank you, Zia!"

I shouted to the disappearing succubus, who just waved her hands before slamming the door closed. D’Ara, meanwhile, took out a scroll and sent it flying to Izzy’s hands.

"Just make two working sets for now," she said while Izzy unrolled the scroll to check the content. "Here are the spells and the ingredients needed to engrave them."

Still standing in the middle of the living room, Izzy scrutinized the spell and the list of ingredients with the utmost focus. If Zia was there, I would be able to see her staring at the elf without blinking, which always got Jade to call her out for it. Indeed, he looked very reliable when he wasn’t being his financial disaster self.

Once he finished understanding the spells and the ingredients, Izzy asked for a piece of paper and started making his own list. And it was a looooong list. It seemed like making a bag that could contain mana and spells was way more complicated than building a gun.

"Are you sure you can do this in just a day?" I whispered while he was making some calculations on another sheet.

"We have more production machines now, and I’m sure she can help with refining some materials," he glanced at D’Ara before shifting his gaze to me. "Also...we need to do this as quickly as possible, don’t we?"

Wow...I blinked in surprise because...that was honestly touching. We really had shifted the boss-employee paradigm, huh?

Arta, who suddenly got summoned in the middle of her snacking time, was greeted by a long shopping list. But she got to it as quickly as Izzy did, making a checklist one by one.

"We have this...this and this...this too..." she mumbled while scribbling on the list. "I think we can ask these two from the Magic Tower--"

"Just ask the Grandmaster," Natha said before sipping his tea. "He’ll let you rob the warehouse if you tell him it’s for Valen."

"Nat..."

Was he actually angry despite saying he understood Uncle Sol’s predicament? Well, he was a petty demon. Or...maybe he just saw an opportunity to exploit them?

Nggh--whatever! As long as we can start the production quickly!

"Great!" Arta definitely had no qualms about squandering the Magic Tower. "Alright, so the rest are...hmm..." she made another list in her own notebook, before nodding and returning the paper to the elf. "Kay, I’ll pop to the black market for a second."

She closed her notebook and announced lightheartedly as if she was just going to pop into the neighborhood minimart.

"Casually?" I asked with widened eyes. Was the black market something you could just ’pop in a second’?

But Arta just gave me a playful wink before skipping out of the Lord’s Quarter with Natha’s card in her possession. Well...I guessed as someone who was in charge of logistics, she must have connections with all kinds of markets.

"Just leave it to her," Natha stroked my head in reassurance. From that alone, and how steady his heart rate had been, it was safe to say Natha was no longer nervous. "She should be able to get everything tonight, so you can start right away, Izzy."

Wow...even chill enough to use a nickname?

"Is there an empty room I can use to work?" Izzy asked while gathering papers and ink in a chest. Oh, this one also did not waste any time. "I presume it’s something that shouldn’t be brought out?"

Natha nodded and pointed upstairs. "You can use the nursery."

Izzi paused and looked at us blankly. "You have a nursery?"

Oh, I guessed Zia told him some things but not everything. "Almost," I shrugged. "I did ask you to make me a bassinet."

"Huh..." he blinked. "I didn’t think it comes with a set with a nursery..."

Pfft--well...maybe because people rarely had a dedicated nursery in a modern home on Earth unless they were really wealthy.

Panne decided to help the dazed elf and took the chest of papers and ink from his hand while gesturing toward the stairs. "I’ll take you there, Sir."

"Panne, please take care of him," I laughed and waved my hand to the still-dazed elf.

"Yes, Young Master."

Natha watched Izzy and Panne climb the stairs with a smirk, tapping his thigh in amusement. "He’s not even asking for a payment," he chuckled.

"We’re friends!" I slapped his upper arms. Izzi might be like that, but he did it with my well-being in mind!

"You have the right kind of friends," D’Ara smiled.

I blinked and shifted closer, asking sheepishly in a whisper. "Like you?"

She let out a crisp laugh and patted my head as a reply.

"Thank you," I looked at her, hoping I could convey my sincere gratitude. Really...our problem was going to be solved just like that...thanks to her effort.

"The both of you are precious to me," she stroked my chin gently and added with a playful smile. "But you know that already, don’t you?"

All I could do was just smile bashfully, savoring the warmth of happiness spreading inside me from how kind people were. To think there were so many people willing to help me before I even needed to make any request...how many people could say they had this kind of privilege in their life?

"Still, you can at least feed me as thanks or something," D’Ara shrugged and drummed on her stomach playfully.

Again, I gasped loudly and the servants scrambled to inform the cook and set the dining table--since we decided to just have an early dinner with everyone. While waiting, Jade hopped onto D’Ara’s armrest. The little bird had been working hard to butter her up, but it was acting particularly cute all of a sudden.

[Teacher! Teacher!]

She stroked the approaching green head while smiling curiously. "What is it, Jade?"

[Jade...] A soft chirp that was almost like a whisper filled the quiet living room. [Jade want to make request!]

D’Ara tilted her head, and we were all staring at Jade in a mix of intrigue and amusement.

[Jade...Jade want to protect Papa and Shwa!] one of the colorful wings raised to tug the progenitor’s finger. It was then that I remembered how Jade was in the middle of a heartfelt oration before D’Ara came. Now, with firm beady green eyes, the little bird looked at the Progenitor. [Can Teacher tell Jade how to be stronger?]

Oh, my sweet baby.
