Chapter 528: Sometimes, you need to act like you’re the centre of the world
"Whoa...it’s global," I gasped, before turning to face Natha. "Isn’t it?"
"We’re about seventy percent convinced," Natha nodded. "Eruha is looking in that direction right now."
Wow, wow, wow! Damn--they even bonded with my enemies? I should slap that freaking nightmare at least three times as a greeting later.
"Sure, you can do that. But finish your meal first for now," Natha stroked the back of my head. "Don’t forget your drink."
"Oh, did I say that out loud?"
"Yep!" Zia giggled again, breaking the tense atmosphere. Even Malta smiled slightly. "Anyway, let’s not talk about those things right now. You’re just waking up, you know."
But I was curious! I pursed my lips at her nagging, but also realized my emotions had been spiking up and dropping down throughout this conversation, so I still agreed in the end. It wasn’t like I could do anything with my conditions.
"Just tell me when you’re about to proceed with the judgment," I told them. "I still want to hit them one by one first."
"Don’t worry, Young Master. I’ll give you routine updates!" Arta, my girl, you were the best as usual.
The vassals left one by one afterward, and Zia stayed until I finished spiking my sugar intake before going back to her room to catch some sleep while bringing Jade along as a stress reliever. In the end, except for Natha, only Amarein and Aunt Nezja were there.
Oh, felt like family meetings.
"I had thought you were an innocent, soft little sweet bun, but..." Aunt Nezja chuckled as she took a seat on the edge of the bed, patting my legs. "You can be ruthless if you want."
Uhh...I scratched my neck awkwardly. I guessed I was still my Grandpa’s grandson, after all.
"Valen is the strongest," Ignis said nonchalantly. What? You’re still here? I flicked the flaming Salamander, but Ignis grumbled about how it just telling the truth or whatever.
"Mm, Valen is the strongest," Natha suddenly gave an agreement with a solemn look, which made me look at him incredulously. That wasn’t something I expected I would hear from someone who kept fussing about my safety. "But I prefer it if he never has to face a situation when he has to use his power."
Oh, uhm...ahem.
"At any rate, good job," Aunt Nezja chuckled softly, but Natha replied swiftly.
"Don’t praise him," he said in a stern voice. "He might do that again."
"Hey!"
I smacked him, but he caught my hand and kissed it, prompting me to blush again. I puffed my cheeks and shifted my attention to the aunties to distract myself from how much I missed him and wanted him all over me.
"Umm, thank you, Auntie," I told Aunt Nezja and then turned toward Amarein. "Thank you for this amulet too."
"I was only delivering what Mother wanted to give to you," Amarein smiled and stroked my cheek. "How are you feeling?"
"I’m okay," I nodded. "Great, actually. I feel better than before I went to the forest."
I was greeted by a rare occurrence of Amarein scoffing. "Of course you are, after absorbing that much pure mana," her hand moved to the amulet hanging on my neck, inspecting it. "But that mana is almost depleted right now, so we still have to find another way."
I looked down and inspected the amulet myself. There was only a quarter of it left. "Oh, you’re right..."
"It’ll probably be better if you take it off now since you’re feeling better already," Aunt Nezja suggested. "Save it for emergencies, since we don’t know when you’re child will be born and how many close calls you will have in the future."
"Yes, I agree," Amarein responded in agreement.
I turned toward Natha, and he nodded. "Oh, okay," I took off the amulet then, and Natha fetched a carved wooden box from the bedside drawer--seemed like the amulet originally came from there. I put the amulet inside the box, and told Natha to keep it for me.
Looking at the box disappearing into Natha’s storage ring, I fell into a short contemplation. Right away after making the decision, I took out another box, smaller this time, and gave it to Natha. His silver eyes widened when I placed the small box in his hand.
"Sweetheart?"
"You hold onto this," I patted the box; it was the pill that the Vampire Lord gave me. "I mean, if there’s a situation where I would need to use this, I don’t think I could do it alone."
Natha frowned slightly, but he must have realized it was the best option for us--knowing how reckless I was--because he gripped the small box and nodded.
But looking at the box reminded me of the Vampire Lord, and naturally, my mind went to her mother. "Oh, D’Ara..."
"Yes?" Aunt Nezja seemed to be surprised when I suddenly mentioned the Vampire Mother’s name.
"Oh, umm...D’Ara said she’s making something. Do you think..." I looked at Natha, but he shook his head at my silent inquiry.
"I tried to call her yesterday, but it seems like she’s gone into seclusion," he said.
But that reply excited me instead of casting a gloom. "Oh, she must be in the middle of making it then?"
"I hope so," Natha smiled subtly.
"Okay," I gripped his hand to reassure ourselves. "Then, we just need to wait. Let’s trust her."
Natha’s smile grew a bit more, but only the two of us could enjoy it in this room. Amarein and Aunt Nezja, naturally, looked at us in confusion. "What is this about?" Aunt Nezja asked.
"Teacher is trying to make something that will allow a mana...transfusion," Natha replied.
"Mana transfusion?" Amarein narrowed her eyes and looked at me inquisitively.
"So I’ll be able to transfer my mana to Valen," Natha continued with his explanation, telling them about our brainstorming with D’Ara that brought us to this mana transfusion system.
"That can be done?" Amarein widened her eyes, before frowning and fell into contemplation for a few seconds. "Will it only work with your mana?"
"We don’t know yet."
She looked at Natha with a very serious expression. "Please tell me more once you hear from her."
"Of course," Natha nodded, seemingly knowing what Amarein wanted to do. "If it works for someone else other than me, I reckon a druid’s mana will be the most compatible with Valen."
"Oh!" I exclaimed and clapped my hands in belated realization.
"Yes," Amarein smiled and pinched my chin gently. "Anyway, that’s a great idea. Ah, I’ll send mana stones from our warehouse once I get back."
"Oh, Auntie--"
"It’s fine," she flicked my chin. "We only use them to make fabric and accessories anyway. I know the others will prefer it if you use it instead."
She stared me down with a gaze that told me she would do it whatever I said. Well...it wasn’t like I had much choice anyway--beggars couldn’t be choosers...right?
"Thank you," I bit my lips, feeling bad because I knew they wouldn’t want Natha or me to pay them. Otherwise, I wouldn’t think twice about receiving it. "I don’t know how to repay you--"
Amarein pinched my chin again to stop me from speaking. "Don’t speak as if we are strangers, mm?" she flicked my nose playfully then, smirking.
Oh...I pressed my lips as warmth spread in my heart, so much so that I didn’t need Ignis’s fire anymore. "Hehe..."
She pinched my cheek once before standing up. "Well, I’ll leave you to rest then."
As if on cue, Aunt Nezja also stood up. "Be well, sweety."
"Thank you..."
I could only mutter softly because I felt like I would cry if I spoke louder. They closed the bedroom door on their way out, and suddenly it was a deja vu of what happened after I woke up this morning.
"Phew..." I let out a sigh unconsciously as I leaned back, letting my body relax.
"What’s wrong?" Natha brushed my fringe and looked at me worriedly. "Are you exhausted? Do you want to lie down?"
I glanced at him, savoring his worried expression for a few seconds before grinning. "No, I’m just happy we’re alone again."
"I’m still here," Ignis grumbled from the headrest.
"Are you?" I smirked, and the little Salamander rolled its eyes before crawling away toward the window that Natha wittingly slid open. I giggled and raised my arms as Natha closed the window again. "Now, we’re really alone!"
He laughed--not muffled this time--and swooped into my arms, embraced me back, and slipped into the bed. I enjoyed his shower of kisses for a few minutes before slotting myself in his lap, leaning on him rather than the pile of pillows.
While I was sighing in satisfaction again, he raised the pill box and stroked it carefully. "Is this your way of telling me I should never leave you alone again?"
"Yep!" I replied without hesitation. After this whole incident, I no longer wanted to think about consideration.
Nuh-uh--I was going to be most considerate to myself this time. I didn’t care if I appeared clingy and selfish, I needed my husband here with me until our child was born, even if it took years.
"Alright," he responded swiftly, without hesitation. "I won’t go anywhere that will take me longer than one teleportation."
"Good," I pulled him for a kiss again. "I missed you so much."
"Oh, sweetheart," he whispered against my lips. "I dreaded every second I spent away from you."
I giggled happily at the sincerity I could hear in his voice and saw in his gaze. "Does that mean you’ll also accompany me to the bathroom?"
"Of course?" he tilted his head with a gaze that seemed to question why I even needed to ask about it. "Why? Do you need to go now?"
"Mm--I felt gross," I looked down and pursed my lips. "Wash me!"
He laughed and picked me up. "As you command."
