Chapter 483: There’s no such thing as too many secret place

"Whoa..."

My eyes were wide open as I stared at the newly built structure on the side of the lake, across my beloved greenhouse. I had to admit that I was still rather doubtful before, wondering if they could really do it in less than three weeks, but...

There it was; a fully functional and steady bridge connecting the greenhouse and the other side of the lake, leading to...nothing.

Wait--no need to be disappointed. Of course, it would look like nothing; a complete isolation and illusion array was being drawn all the way from the forest to the lakeside. From the greenhouse, the bridge would only seem to be connected to a small open pavilion. Nothing more.

Hell--they even made the bride and the pavilion beautiful to make it seem like nothing more than an aesthetic decoration for the Lord’s consort. Ahem, me.

I mean...who would have thought this white, flowery rest area, decorated in colorful mana lamps and surrounded by glowing waterlilies was a gate to something that would decide the fate of the world? Surely, it was just a place for the young consort to have a picnic and enjoy an outdoor teatime...right?

"Let’s go?" Natha offered his hand and I took it with suppressed excitement. Aside from the time I walked around with Amarein to choose the best location, I hadn’t visited the place yet.

Aside from trying to save myself from hazardous conditions--seeing how I had a habit of tripping and stumbling on a weekly basis--I also didn’t want to get in their way. I didn’t even visit the greenhouse all this time, since they had to work on the bridge.

So, I was kind of excited. As excited as I was before going to Natha’s collection room for the first time. I couldn’t stop giggling, and Jade giggled with me, while Ignis was playing it cool and scoffing as usual--although I could feel a tail slapping my shoulder from time to time.

"I feel like we’re going to a hidden amusement park or something," I giggled and felt Natha stiffening beside me. "Huh? What’s wrong?"

"Hmm? Nothing..." Natha cleared his throat and pulled me to walk faster. "Did you bring the scroll?"

Hmm... how weird. But oh, well--I took out the scroll containing the druid formation I had to draw on the ground where we would plant--I mean, place--Shwa later, waving it at him. Amarein and Grandma Chief had helped me to draw the formation, and all I had to do was copy it.

That would be my last task before heading to the realm of nature.

"Good," Natha patted my head as a praise. "I have told the servants to prepare our tea in the pavilion, so we can enjoy it after you’re done with the formation."

[Jade’s jelly too?]

"Yes, yours too," Natha had gotten better at interpreting Jade’s thoughts, either because their relationship had improved, or because it was an extension of our soul bond. "I have some fire stones too."

"Huh, what is this? You’re so generous today," Ignis raised its flaming head. "You usually only give me some when I ask."

"Hmm..." Natha stroked his chin. "I’m trying to gather good karma...I think? Or avoiding bad one?"

[Papa, what’s kerma?]

Pfft--was that why he had been giving financial injections to new entrepreneurs this month? Giving out welfare packages too, although he had just given some during our wedding.

But how should I explain it to Jade?

"Hmm...if we do good deeds, we will have good things happen, and if we do bad..."

Jade gasped. [Bad things will happen?]

"Yes, but Jade..." I looked at the little bird and poked its chubby cheek. "We should still do good deeds regardless, okay?"

[Oh, umm...okay, if Papa said so!]

"Let’s hope my bad deeds won’t catch up to me," Natha muttered quietly while holding my hand tighter.

I guessed, at a time like this, even Natha would get worried over everything--so much that his calculating mind even calculated how many lives he had slain, how many cries people had shed because of him, and things like that. His life as the son of a traitor, as a soldier, and then as a Lord...it wasn’t a life sprinkled with flowers.

But personally, I felt like he had paid his bad karma before even any of those deeds. After all, he did not choose to have been born as a King’s candidate or wish for any misery befalling his family that happened afterward.

"It’s fine, it’s fine," I stroked his hand. "I’m sure you also have a lot of good karma."

"I know," he said, annoyingly sure about it. "But I feel like I have spent all of it by marrying you."

Oh, gosh! How was he so good at making me flustered? Thankfully, we finally arrived at the pavilion. It was a cozy little place with a picnic table set and plush lounges under a canopy, but it wasn’t yet the time to enjoy it. We went down the step to the lakeside, where trees and wildflower bushes became a natural fence along the strolling path around the lake.

Or so it seemed. We crossed the paths and entered the forest, walking for about twenty meters before feeling a thin barrier that could barely be sensed except for those with high mana sensitivity. It would mess with regular people’s senses and send them going around in circles until they exit the forest. The barrier, however, was designed to react to my mana, so I would never get lost here.

Right away, I could sense the path that brought us deeper into the forest. As if following breadcrumbs to a candy house, I was following a certain flower that only grew in the Great Forest of Alnin that Amarein had planted while making the barrier with the other druids. The flowers lead us to what looked like a normal cabin from the outside.

This one looked even more like a normal house in the cabin. Almost like a shed, actually, albeit a nice and sturdy-looking one.

"Hmm...looks like it’ll burn easily..." Ignis voiced its concern.

"You can try it if you want," Natha smirked. "For real, just burn it."

The light blue eyes of the Salamander narrowed. "My fire is not like the others."

"I know," the confident smile was still on Natha’s face.

"...you can’t force me to take responsibility if it burns," the flame in Ignis’s head flickered. "And you can’t deduct my stone’s allowance!"

There was a stone allowance?

"Pfft--fine, just do it."

[Do it! Do it! Burn!]

Ugh...I already told this little bird to stop sounding like an arsonist...

Ignis puffed its cheek and without any more warning threw a white-hot Salamander flame to the unassuming hut. The fire clashed against the structure and the blast even prompted me to close my eyes for a second.

Despite seemingly being made out of wood, however, the hut didn’t catch the fire. The flame didn’t seem to want to cling to the material, and after a few seconds, something seemed to swallow the fire.

Naturally, I gasped. I could tell that Ignis felt dumbfounded since it stayed on top of my head without moving. "What..."

Jade flew toward the hut and chirped in amazement. [What is this? What is this? So weird! Amazing!]

"My...my fire..."

Hmm... were you really trying to burn your younger sibling’s home down, Ignis?

"A Salamander’s flame is mighty, but there’s something even mightier," Natha approached the hut and patted the timber. "An Archdragon’s Lord fire."

...say what now?

"This is the timber forged by the fire of the Dragon Lord’s breath, and this--" Natha held the knocker on the door, and I could see a black stone embedded in it. "Is the piece of the Dragon Lord’s heart."

...a piece of what?!

"Naturally, this hut will never get burned by anything less than the Dragon Lord’s breath, and any elemental energy attack will get absorbed and fed to the ground inside," Natha pointed at my black pendant. "You know, for our glutton child’s food?"

Did he just casually mention using things procured from the elusive dragon tribe? From the Lord, no less?

"Where did you get these things from?"

"My dear teacher’s vault?" Natha shrugged. "Let’s go."

Wow...he was not kidding when he said he would create the most secure place in the world. Belatedly, I realized this was why he asked Eruha’s involvement. Of course, the youngest baby son would have access to the Mother Vampire’s vault, who was besties with the Dragon Lord.

Cool. Cool, cool, cool.

"Huh..." Ignis finally woke up from its stupor and crawled back to my shoulder. I thought Ignis would get annoyed, but surprisingly, I heard a sigh of relief instead. "Oh, good. I can visit without worry, then."

Oh, my sweet Salamander...

Jade swooped inside the moment Natha opened the door, and I could hear the loud energetic chirping right away. I understood since it was truly amazing. Of course, I already knew that the inside of the hut would be nothing ordinary, since it was obvious a space enlargement magic was in place.

Or rather, the outside of the hut was designed to feign our perception that it was nothing but a small hut. In reality, it was a whole garden with a sleeping pavilion, big enough for even Vrida to swoop in from above. It had a retractable dome roof for Vrida to come and go, as well as for the garden to receive natural sunlight. But in case it was raining, snowing, or if I just wanted to sleep, we could turn it into a semi-greenhouse.

[Jade like this, Papa!]

"Mm, me too."

With the approval of my kids, I walked toward the center of the garden. We had bushes and flower beds here, as well as a lush, evergreen tree. Beneath that tree was a small empty spot, with moist, fertile soil and lush surroundings.

I put my palm on the spot, letting out a yearning sigh as I stroked the black pendant with my other hand.

"Soon, baby," I whispered to the softly buzzing flower seed. "We’ll meet you soon."
