Chapter 472: When you want soon but you don’t know by how much

"Shwa?" Jade perked up instantly at the name, eyes and hand caressed the black pendant on my neck. "Will Shwa here soon?"

I looked at Natha, who was silent for quite a long time--well, a long time for me who was waiting eagerly in nervousness. A minute passed before he finally spoke, but he spoke to Jade instead.

"Jade, be a good boy and get the servants in the kitchen, yeah?" he took Jade off my lap and put the boy on the ground. "Tell them we’ll have breakfast on the lower balcony today, and ask for a lot of jellies."

Jade gasped and with sparkling eyes, nodded before running down to do his errand. I took a deep breath while waiting for his decision patiently, watching him drag an ottoman in front of me and sit on it. All the while, our hands were still holding onto each other.

There, with a bowed head, he took a deep breath just like me before lifting his face to look me in the eyes. As I stared into the steady pair of moonlight, I could see that he wasn’t as reluctant as before; not as scared.

"Are you sure about it?" he asked. "Are you sure you’re ready?"

I nodded wordlessly. I didn’t think I needed to convey it through words, because if it wasn’t my eyes, then our bond would tell him my conviction; one that had been brewing for a long time.

"I’m not only talking about your body or your proficiency," he held my hands tighter. "I want to know if you’re really ready to have a child in your life--in our life. It hasn’t been a year since you lived your life as a healthy person, and there are still a lot of things you might want to do. Things that you might not be able to do once you have a child."

Usually, I would already sush him in the middle. This time, however, I let him finish, even though I knew already what my answer would be.

"I know," I leaned forward and pressed my forehead against his. "I know there will be a lot of change, and I won’t say I would never regret it in the future. But even so..." I gripped his hands too, holding them close to my heart, to our heart--the pulsing seed inside the black pendant. "Even so, I never felt more ready--because you know what?"

"...what?"

"I know you’ll help me through it all...won’t you?"

The cold hands freed themselves from my hold to cup my face and kissed me dearly. "Of course, I will," he whispered with as much conviction as I had about conceiving our child. "That is one thing--aside from my undying love--that you should never doubt of me."

My smile came before his resuming kiss, and I ended up on his lap when our lips parted. "So let’s do it soon, yeah?" I stroked his cheeks, asking for the final verdict. "Besides," I glanced at the faint sound of running that was getting closer and grinned. "I already have a child--or three--so...what’s another one?"

"Heh--" Natha chuckled and kissed my cheek one last time before Jade burst into the room with stained lips. "You’re right about that."

"Natha, Jade tell the servants!"

"Aaah--you’re already eating the jelly?" I jumped off Natha’s lap and snatched a handkerchief to wipe the stain off. "It means for breakfast, Jade. You should wait until we’re all at the table together."

"Sorry, Papa..."

"Alright, promise me not to do it again?"

"Okay!"

As I carried Jade to the bathroom, Natha patted my head as if praising me. "Well...looking at it like this, you do seem eager to be a father."

It wasn’t even flirting, but oh--the way I blushed!

* * *

"Come again?" Eruha lifted his face from his cup, blinking at my request.

We were finally having afternoon tea in the greenhouse after a long time; me, the twins, and their new family member Eruha. Opti was there too in the beginning, but after gulping the hot tea like it was regular water and grabbing a tin of cookies, he stormed off again for another mission.

Anyway, I repeated what I said earlier. "Ask her when will be the good time for me to conceive."

"...conceive?’

"Just ask her, okay?" I rolled my eyes, and Jade followed enthusiastically.

"That’s right Eruru! Hurry up so Jade can have a younger sibling!"

Lesta coughed and almost sprayed his tea into the whole table. Not because of the conceiving thing though. "Er...Eruru..." the corner of his lips twitched as he tried hard not to laugh out loud.

Seemed like, even though Jade had started to call people with their names, he still misspelled them sometimes. But it was also adorable, so I let it be--as long as the person wasn’t offended by it.

And from the vampire’s nonchalant expression, I didn’t think he minded it.

"I thought it was a jest, but..." he shrugged and put his cup down before crossing his arms and closing his eyes.

While we were waiting for Eruha’s connection with D’Ara, Arta asked me further about the conceiving thing. Now that I had decided to go with it soon, I found that I was no longer getting too embarrassed when talking about it.

"Is this the thing we talked about in fleeting that long time ago?" she asked in surprise, but also intrigued.

"The one about you being a part dryad?" Lesta tilted his head.

"Yep," I nodded after shoving a piece of cake into my mouth. I could enjoy any cake and pastry I wanted now so I had been having a blast snacking on them. "We found a way back when we were in the druid settlement, so it’s just a matter of choosing time."

Her eyes sparkled even more as she leaned closer. "My, my--how exciting! Doesn’t that mean I’ll be able to make more children’s clothes?" she gasped, suddenly clasping her cheeks. "Baby clothes?!"

Well, well--it seemed that Shwa would already have baby clothes even before coming to this world fully. Nice! And she looked happy about it too, so...win-win!

"But...why do you need to ask Mo...ahem, the Progenitor for a date?" Lesta asked.

Ho ho...was he about to say ’Mother-in-law’ earlier? I arched my brow and stared at him with curling lips, making him grab his cup and sip his tea in a hurry to hide his fluster. Hehe...kind of nice being on the other side of the teasing spectrum.

"I just want to know if there’s a certain time that will boost probability," I replied after enjoying Lesta’s embarrassed face. "Since it has a lot to do with mana and converging point, she might have some advice regarding it."

"Why not ask your Aunt, Young Master?"

"I did--still waiting for the letter right now, so I thought I’d just ask D’Ara too while waiting."

As if getting summoned by the mention of her name, Eruha’s eyes opened and turned a brighter shade of red, glowing. "Well hello, sweetlings."

"Teacher!" Jade greeted her pseudo-presence with an energetic slam on the table.

"Hello, Jade. Please don’t break the table on my account."

"Sorry!"

She gave Jade a nice, playful smile that I had to admit, was very weird to be in Eruha’s face. Lesta was staring so hard at it, and I couldn’t decide if it was because he felt weirded out or tempted to make Eruha do it again on his own when they were alone.

"Now, let’s get to business since my youngest started to get annoyed," she laughed--the crisp, bell-like sound was as weird as the smile on Eruha’s body. "So you want to know the best day for you to utilize the effect of the converging point, yes?"

"Uh-huh," I nodded. As expected of Eruha, he must have explained everything well. "Is there any difference? Or does it not matter when?"

"Of course, there’s a difference," she crossed her arm, but somehow felt different from the way Eruha did it earlier. "The converging point is one thing, but you yourself, the conductor, are also important."

So, my hunch was right. I leaned forward in anticipation, waiting for more explanation. Jade did too, although it was to reach for some jelly-filled pastries.

"The converging point is already a land with the richest mana, and it won’t shift unless there’s a richer location--meaning, you don’t need to worry about it as long as it is still there," she continued.

As far as I recall, Amarein should tell me if the spot was shifting. Since she hadn’t said anything, it meant the place was still there, so I nodded in confirmation. "So...what do you mean with the best day for me?"

"Of course, the day when your natural mana is at its peak and supported by the cosmic energy."

Supported by what?

"Uhh...how...would I know when it’ll be?"

She wouldn’t say it was during ’ovulation’ or something, right? Because I clearly had none.

D’Ara chuckled and shrugged. "Why--it’s very easy, sweetling," she smiled and pointed at me. "It’s the date when you were born."

"...my birthday?"

Huh...
