Chapter 464: playing house is not as easy as I thought

"Ah, I should have lit up the lantern first before we went," Natha slapped his forehead when we returned to a dark cabin. Dark everywhere, honestly, since we were in the middle of the woods.

Thankfully, there were fireflies and some glowing moss around the cabin and the river, so it was actually pretty nice--not a horror vibe, I mean.

"I’m sorry sweetheart--I want to make it perfect, but..."

I couldn’t help but laugh at his worried face. It was kind of cute that he always wanted to look cool and everything, but I loved his occasional slip-up as much as his cool countenance.

"I don’t want it to be perfect, though..." I grinned and kissed him before climbing up to the dark porch. "You’re not in front of your subordinates anymore, so stop acting cool in front of your husband."

"Say that again," he pulled my waist and pinned me against the porch railing. "And stop acting shy in front of your husband."

Ouch? But I laughed and put my arms around his neck. Well...we were in the middle of nowhere after all. "Fine, you petty husband."

The soft vibration of his laughter came before his kiss, which continued until we entered the cabin. We had to fumble in the dark, however, and I couldn’t help but break the kiss to laugh as we stumbled around the furniture. Natha chuckled and finally lit up the mana lantern around the cabin.

Oh, it was as lovely as I imagined! We had a fireplace, which Natha immediately lit. There was a snug-looking couch and a fluffy rug in front of it, as well as some blankets and pillows. That was it. Nice and simple. There was a kitchen on the other side of the room, and across from the sliding window that was attached to the patio, there was a door that should lead to the bedroom.

I skipped toward the door and opened it--of course, it was still dark. Natha came and activated the mana lantern too, and I immediately found out that the bedroom was basically a copy of the Lair’s bedroom. I laughed at how the bedroom was basically bigger than the living room, but I was happy that we still had a big bed even here.

"I’m going to make us dinner, so you can rest for a bit," Natha said after chuckling at how I jumped into the big, plush bed.

I gasped and hurriedly got up. "No!" I recalled what we talked about before. "I’m going to unpack our luggage. Hurry take them out!"

He raised his brow for two seconds before bursting out laughing. "I guess you are serious about that," he said while taking out our suitcases from his storage ring.

What? Did you think it was a mere glib?!

I puffed my cheeks and he laughed some more while walking out of the bedroom. Huffing, I turned to face the suitcase and...uhh...perhaps it was a glib.

Why did I pack so much stuff? Natha only had a single suitcase, but why did I have three? I didn’t remember...ah, of course I didn’t. It was Arta and my mischievous friends who packed my stuff for me while I was busy attending the soiree.

Uhh...what should I do with these suspicious boxes that those girls put between my clothes? I mean...I knew it wouldn’t be weird to have them on a honeymoon, but...should I put them in the closet? Should I put them beneath the bed? Should I put them in the open...

Err...maybe not.

Should I show these to Natha and let him decide what to do with them? Uhh...oh, whatever--let’s just put everything in the closet for now. I had to unpack quickly so I could watch Natha cook!

Or so I planned, but honestly...I hardly ever unpack shit before. I didn’t even unpack when I was in the Human Realm, just took the clothes I wanted to wear and threw the dirty ones inside the laundry bag Arta gave me--which went to the storage ring instead of the suitcase. I did the same thing in the druid settlement too, whereas Natha always took care of it when we traveled together.

Damn. I wasn’t cut to this simple and humble life, it seemed. Who knew taking out clothes and hanging them tidily in the closet wasn’t that simple? Should I put the outerwear in a different cabinet? What about the nightwear? Should I hang them or just let them fold? I should put the toiletries in the bathroom, right? Oh, where should I put the shoes...

Aaagh! It was so weird without someone consulting me or simply chirping in the background as moral support!

...oh, gosh! I had become spoiled!

"What are you doing, sweetheart?" Natha patted my head as I lay face down on the bed. For some reason, I felt exhausted from this simple task.

"I’m disappointed at how spoiled I have been," I mumbled against the sheet. How dare I say things like ’I’ll take care of the house’ when I got confused with a simple activity like unpacking luggage.

I heard Natha’s suppressed laugh, but before I could glare at him, he was already hoisting me up and carrying me outside. "You did good," he said--which helped nothing because I knew he would praise me for anything. Still, I liked it. "Now let’s get some dinner, mm?"

"Aaah! I wanted to see you cook, though..." I pursed my lips in disappointment.

"We’ll be here for a week. You’re not thinking that I’ll only cook for one time, are you?"

"But I want to see it every time!"

"Should I throw everything and cook again, then?"

"Don’t waste food!"

He bit my shoulder in response and we laughed as he put me down on the couch. Ooh! We didn’t even have to eat properly at a dining table? Sweet!

"We can eat outside tomorrow," he said. "Have breakfast on the patio or a picnic on the beach."

"Oh! Oh! Let’s do that!" I nodded enthusiastically while receiving a plate from him.

"Hmm...I should have brought a set of picnic tables to be put outside..." Natha narrowed his eyes as he made another assessment of the cabin. "Maybe a parasol..."

"You can do it next time," I shrugged as I took a bite of the sliced meat. "We’ll definitely visit this place again, ri--oh! This is so good!"

"Is it really?" he stroked my bulging cheek and wiped a sauce on the corner of my lips.

I nodded enthusiastically. "Mm! I like that it’s smoky and well done."

"Pfft--" he pressed his head on my shoulder as his own shook a bit. I tilted my head in confusion and he looked at me with a wry smile. "That’s a new way of saying charred and overcooked."

"It’s not intentional?"

Again, he laughed silently at my shoulder, with just a shaking back as an indication. When he pulled back and leaned against the couch, he even had tears in his eyes.

"Oh, I did want to put a perfect meal for you, but...I guess I was too nervous and ended up messing up a lot."

Oh...so it didn’t seem like I was the only one struggling with the role today. "But it’s really good, you know!" I argued honestly. "The flavor is still there! It’s different from the one made by the cooks and Angwi, but it feels...hmm, how should I say this? Rustic? It’s like a barbeque, makes me feel like I’m in one of your adventures! Oh...now I want to be in one of your adventures..."

I looked at the crackling fire dazedly while continuing to put the food in my mouth. Mm, it really was good. Above anything else, it was made by someone whom I loved and who loved me with all his heart. There was no way it wouldn’t taste good.

"I’ll be sure to do it better next time," he said while placing a salad on my plate. "Eat this. I’m sure I didn’t mess this one up."

"Well, this is already good for me," I shrugged. "But sure, I’ll look forward to it."

When I put the last meat in my mouth, Natha suddenly grabbed my chin and kissed me. Soft, just a mere touch, but long, and making me forget about the dinner for a few seconds until he pulled away and leaned his head against my shoulder.

"God, I love you so much,"

"Me too," I laughed and shoved a meat into his mouth. Why was the one who cooked only watched instead of eating?

But then he asked me to continue to feed him, which of course I did happily. I used to be the one getting fed and spoiled so it was fun. It was fun to stay in a warm room with a fire crackling softly in front of us. It was nice to bare our hearts and souls, naked in mind with the one I loved. It was fun to just jest around and away from pretense.

It was fun to be in love.
