Chapter 445: A bride just want their groom and nothing else

"Why does our pretty Young Master look like this?" Arta squeezed my cheek the moment she saw me for our last fitting. "Where is the usual beautiful smile, mm?"

Do you know? It was easier to pretend like nothing happened and everything was alright in front of strangers. It was harder doing it, however, in front of people we knew well. Perhaps I just wanted to get pampered, but I couldn’t manage to keep my face from souring in front of Arta.

You know what was even more ridiculous? I felt jealous.

I was jealous that Arta was able to see Natha, unlike me.

I chewed the inside of my cheek and fiddled with the hem of my tunic while looking up at Arta carefully. "What is Natha...doing right now?"

Arta raised her brows and stretched her lips wider. "His Lordship?" she pinched my cheek lightly again and held my fiddling hand. "Shall I tell you what he’s been doing while you changed then?"

"Mm..."

I nodded begrudgingly, and let myself be led around by Arta and the seamstresses. My focus was not on the fitting but on Arta’s voice.

"Let’s see...today he’s talking about the banquet decoration during breakfast--since we’ll start doing the Great Hall tomorrow."

So you had breakfast with him...

They raised my arms to put on one of the outfits--which probably have become even more beautiful if I were in my right mind. I didn’t even know which one they put on me; my ears followed Arta and my eyes followed the shadow of Lord Castle far away.

"He has his fitting today too--after the meal--and he spent the whole process wondering to himself about what you ate for breakfast before scolding me for telling you to watch your weight."

I flinched involuntarily the moment I heard he was talking about me; thinking about me. The seamstresses chuckled while correcting my pose, and I couldn’t help but lower my head in embarrassment.

"Afterward, he checked on the progress of the fish shipment that was due today, and then checked the finishing on the...that aquasomething while mumbling about whether or not Young Master would like it."

"...aquarium?"

"Oh, yes! That!" she snapped her fingers and exclaimed.

I blinked and raised my face, staring at Arta who was stroking her chin as she tried to remember the sequence of events. All I could think at that time was...

The aquarium is done?!

I didn’t even remember there was an aquarium on the horizon! So much happened and I hadn’t heard anything more about it. Maybe because I was no longer living in the Lord Castle, and every time I was there I only ever stayed in the Lord’s quarters or the greenhouse.

But, oh...the aquarium!

But I had no more leeway to think about it because Arta continued her report while doing my hair. "Afterward...we had some luncheon, and he grumbled about too many guests inquiring about Young Master--I think His Lordship will put a ’no admittance’ sign soon on his office."

"...sounds familiar," Neel commented from the side.

"Is it?" Arta tilted her head. "Ah, His Lordship also put new plants in the Lord’s quarters--flowers, mainly; the whole place smells like a garden now."

"Oh..."

She laughed and lifted my chin, and I could see a mischievous sparkle in her eyes. "Before I came here, he told me to give you a message."

My heart jolted and I stuttered in my reply. "O-oh?"

Arta lowered her head and whispered in my ears. "’I’m dying for the day I may hold you in my arms again,’"

"...oh,"

I felt that flutter of butterfly wings on my stomach, tickling the corner of my yearning heart. As the heat climbed into my cheeks, the cloud of misery started to fade out of my head, and I could feel my lips twitching.

"Now, isn’t that much prettier?" Arta laughed and squeezed my cheeks tightly. I didn’t think I would need any rogue with the way she had been pinching and squeezing my cheeks. "No matter how good the outfits are, they won’t look pretty with a sullen face."

I bit my lips in embarrassment as it came down to me how silly I had been acting. Feeling jealous because other people could see Natha during work...how ridiculous, Val. I couldn’t even control myself from speaking curtly or making a sour face.

"Of course, you still manage to look good anyway, but..." Arta stroked my cheek and smiled, softening her tone. "Brides should have nothing on their faces but happiness."

"I am happy!" I argued swiftly--I didn’t want anyone to think that I was any bit unhappy about marrying Natha. "I just..." I took a deep breath and exhaled heavily. "Haa...I just missed Natha so much."

"Oh, you love birds are just the same," Arta rolled her eyes, walking away to take a box of hairpieces from one of the seamstresses. "All you can think about when you’re apart is the other person."

Aaack--as if I hadn’t been embarrassed enough from my foolish act these days! With my face heating up so much that I was sure I looked like a boiled crab, I crouched down and buried my face in my palms. But then I remembered it was a fitting and I stood up again in fright of damaging the clothes.

Thankfully, Arta merely laughed and pinched my cheeks again as my deserved punishment. "Mm, Young Master is the most adorable!"

"Am not! Jade is the cutest!" I argued, and the little boy who was getting dressed in his ceremony outfit by a seamstress giggled in agreement.

"Jade is the cutest!"

Arta chuckled and looked at Jade while arching her brow. "But Sir Jade took your appearance, no?"

"Oh, you’re right..."

"Oh, now that I look at it, the crown looks a bit similar to Sir Jade’s necklace?" Arta crouched beside Jade, who gasped in joy.

"Oh! Oh! Arta can tell?"

"Of course!"

"It’s good, right? It’s good?" Jade twirled and showed off his necklace which sparkled in the fire’s light. "Jade can wear it to the wedding, yeah?"

Arta nodded and fixed Jade’s new hat--something that looked like a postal boy’s hat with a cute ribbon and flower crystal embedded in the center. "Yes, of course. It doesn’t clash with the flowers."

"Yaaay!" Jade twirled again, making the little flowers in his cape sway as if getting blown by the wind.

Yep--Jade is the cutest.

"Now," Arta stood up again and clapped her hands. She looked at me with a deep, meaningful smile. "It’s time for the ceremonial suit."

"Oh..."

I felt even more embarrassed than before. More than anything, the wedding ceremony was the most important event for me. It was my event, celebrated with people I personally knew and invited.

And it was the day I would be legally, sacredly, forever bound to--with--Natha.

Of course, the outfit I would wear that day became the most meaningful to me. It was also the one made in white, based on Natha’s request. While it didn’t look as fancy as the other outfits with their embedded gems or embroidery made of real gold thread, I liked this one the most.

All in all, it was just a long tunic and a cape in pure white. Looked simple at first, and looked simple from afar. But it was anything but simple from up close, with an almost invisible embroidery that could only be seen with a play of light. Beneath the storm of rainbows on the rooftop, they would shine in iridescent light--very fitting with the crown.

The cape was long, sweeping the floor like an Earth’s bride’s cape would. They had made the edge of the cape in a gradation of colors, taking inspiration from Jade’s flowing tails, which they also incorporated into the cord that connected the cape together.

Literally--Jade had donated two plumes from its colorful tail to be made into the cord’s decorations.

[Jade will be with Papa!] the little bird said happily at that time, and I had no heart to say ’no’.

Just like Jade, small crystalized flowers had been sewn into the fabric of the cape, making it look like I was in a perpetual shower blossom. All the flowers were white, so it reminded me of D’Ara’s abode; of the rows of white blossoms lining up the walkway, and the view Natha had always wanted to show me.

Unlike with the other outfits, they didn’t do my hair this time. Arta had decided to let my hair cascade down as it was to make it look natural, and the only hairpieces I would wear that day were the tiny snow flowers she slipped between the strands of my hair; a reminded of my and Natha’s first meeting, and our abrupt proposal.

After placing the last flower, Arta stepped back and joined the others--the seamstresses, Jade, Zia, Neel, and Angwi--to look at me.

"Oh..." Zia sighed and put her hands on her chest--did that mean I looked good or what?

None of them said anything, but Jade jumped off Angwi’s lap and ran at me, raising his arms and laughing widely.

"Papa is so pretty!" he held my hands and swayed them. "Papa is the prettiest."

Pfft--he started to talk like Natha. But...I guessed it was a pass? I had yet to see how I look in the mirror, but--

"Oho--this must be made in that brat’s taste."

I blinked and raised my head as a new voice could be heard. With raised brows, I saw the beautiful figure clad in black as usual, standing to the side while observing me with sparkling red eyes.

For the first time in a while, I heard Angwi gasp, and Zia clasped her mouth to prevent a shriek from coming out.

"Teacher!"

"D’Ara!" I straightened my back and ran toward the Progenitor.
