I stared at the stack of papers with widened eyes, wordlessly flipped them one by one while Izzi looked smug on the other side of the table.
But he had a reason to be smug.
The paper was filled with a complicated design of what should be amusement park rides, from merry-go-round to roller coaster. Of course, they looked rather different, and the mechanical system certainly had been modified highly--because I was sure the one on Earth didn’t use formation spell and was fueled by mana stones.
On the side and the corner of the papers, Izzi had written the kind of arrays and formations that would be needed, as well as energy calculation for each contraption. I could tell everything was still rough, but still...a draft was half the work done, so...
"Wow, Izzi," I lined up the papers on the table. "Did you not sleep or something?"
"Who needs sleep when there’s money to be made? Hahaha!"
[Master, Elf acting weird]
"People who lack sleep tend to be like that," I told the little bird. "So we should have enough sleep every day, Jade."
[Un!]
Kidding aside, this was truly impressive. I knew Natha promised him to sever some of his debt, but I didn’t know it would be this much of a motivation. Perhaps...the timing was right. The promise came when he was just rekindling the will to contact his family again.
"It’s still just a rough design, not yet could be called a blueprint," Izzi said while gathering the papers again. "I need to consult some formation masters first, and probably try to make a prototype."
"You can ask Lesta."
"I’m planning to--although that demon really knows how to maximize his own profit," Izzi grumbled with a quiet sound, glancing at the door vigilantly.
"Well, that’s his job," I shrugged. "But he also gave you a lot of profit, didn’t he?"
Izzi grinned then, probably recalling his account that kept on being filled every week from the purchase of our engraving pens, all thanks to Lesta’s advertising and marketing expert. Every coin that came inside that account meant a shorter time away from his family. His second family, who, fortunately, were very good to him.
"Oh, Boss; are you yet to get a hold of the one making the camcorder?"
"The one in the Realm of Envy? No, not yet," I shook my head. "I actually forget about that one."
"What? What is that?" Zia perked up at the new word. "Which one is it?"
"The one that can record images."
She tilted her head in confusion. "But we have one here, the one that the newspaper and tabloid use," she said. "Of course, it’s terribly expensive, but it wouldn’t be a problem for Lord Uncle."
"No, no--not that kind," Izzi shook his head. "This one is for recording moving images, and allowed us to see it again in the future."
Zia gasped. "Like...like voice recording? But for images?"
"Yeah," Izzi nodded, before turning toward me again. "You tell me to look into the available devices, right? Well, I did, and I think I can see the problem; the vessel--that is, the frame of the device--is not suitable for the formation arrays that were used."
"So...quite the reverse from your gun,"
"Ugh--yeah, whatever. What I meant to say is that I might be able to make a frame that would fit the formation, but it’ll be better if I get the original formation sheet. Also..." he pursed his lips slightly. "I’m also an inventor, and...I don’t feel comfortable working on someone else’s invention without their agreement."
I felt my lips curl up and my hand reached out to ruffle the golden hair. "Good boy!"
Izzi groaned and hurried away from me. "Hey, I’m older than you!"
"Not mentally," I grinned and chased his head with my hand again. My effort was assisted by Zia, who attacked the elf from the other side, and Jade, who jumped to the top of the golden hair for fun, chirping mirthfully while the elf protested--though not entirely in annoyance. "Well, I’ll ask Natha to knock on that person’s bunker again."
"Wait--ah, stop! I’m trying to speak here--hey!" Izzi clicked his tongue and scurried away out of reach, face reddened for some reason. "Why don’t you just mention our world in your...knocking effort? Might make that person step out into the sun, hmm?"
Right! I clapped my hands in exclaim. Now that we had more or less established that these inventors were transmigrated souls, I might as well just come out from the start. I was being careful with Izzi because I was shifting around Natha, worried he might find out.
But there was no need for that now.
"Alright! I’m going to ask him now," I nodded and stood up, placing Jade onto Zia’s palm. "I’m going for my tea now, so play with them again, Jade."
[Why?!] the little bird chirped aggressively.
"Sush, Jade," Zia held the little bird. She couldn’t hear Jade, but she could estimate what the little bird protesting. "Your Master needs to seduce Lord Uncle."
[Seduce?]
"Sush, succubus!"
I put my finger across my lips to warn her, but yes; I needed to seduce him.
* * *
"The Realm of Envy?"
As I thought, the silver eyes narrowed in caution. After all, unlike the realm of Gluttony, Natha didn’t have a good relationship with the Lord of Envy. Well, it didn’t go as far as open hostility--like with Pride--but it also wasn’t friendly. Let’s just say it was nothing but a diplomatic.
This was why Natha told me he would never let me go over there alone.
"Why, we can’t?" I blinked.
"Hmm..." Natha made a pondering face while observing the pastries on the table. "Because of what happened in Lust, that place is rather sensitive now."
"Oh?"
"The Lord is...cautious of me."
"Oh."
Yep. That wasn’t hard to imagine. Natha scoffed and picked a pastry, putting it on my hand rather than eating it himself. "Anyway, they might think we are trying to poach that inventor. Unlike the elf, this one has a common sense to try and make useful things in line with this world’s needs."
I bit into the sweet pastry and tilted my head. "But then...why would that person need to hide in a bunker?"
"To stop being pursued and asked to make this and that," Natha smirked.
"Like how we pursued Izzi?"
Natha only smiled deeply as an answer.
"Oh, I think he’s almost done with that...amusement ride things."
"Huh. He could be diligent if he tried," Natha raised his brow. "If only he did that from the start instead of dabbling in the black market and lurking around auction houses."
"Well, one needs the right motivation,"
"And environment."
"Yep! He’s been so diligent that he said he kind of figured out how to fix the video recorder, but--" I looked at Natha, shrugging.
"It’s someone else’s idea?" as expected, my Demon Lord caught on quick. "At least he has a decent head for what’s mattered."
"Right? So..." I scooted closer to Natha, looking right into his eyes. "Can we do something about it? I want..." I paused for a few seconds, before adding with a tad bit of embarrassment. "I want to have a recording of our...our wedding."
"Hah--" Natha turned his face away and chuckled under the hand covering his mouth. "Oh, how sly," he glanced at me, lifting my face with his hand around my jaw. "How can I refuse if you say it like that?"
Well, that’s the purpose after all. I grinned and kissed his cheek. "So? Can we like... send a secret letter or something?"
Natha sighed. "We can try," he said. "But the letter still needs to go past the bunker first."
I scooted even closer, clinging to his arm. "Can’t we slip a letter in that person’s...I don’t know, groceries or something? There must be a constant resupply, right?"
Natha raised his brow, and I continued. "I can make the letter. If I mentioned something about Earth..."
"There might be a response," Natha nodded, before looking at me with an amused gaze. "Look at you, sweetheart; planning tricks and whatnot."
"Well, I learn from you," I whispered, and just as the last word left my mouth, I felt a cold hand pull my waist, lifting me slightly into my Demon Lord’s lap. Holding onto his shoulder, I whispered with a laugh. "So, we’re doing it, right?"
"I’ll think about it," he said aloofly.
"What?!"
To my protesting exclaim, he tilted his head. "I’ll think about it later, when I’m no longer feeling disappointed because you, my sweetheart," he pinched my cheek and leaned closer to my face, "talking about everything but us."
"But it has something to do with our wedding!" I smacked his shoulder playfully. But well, it did seem like I was only here for other business, rather than to meet him.
Which was true, and I felt guilty because of it.
"Fine," I stroked his cheek and pressed my lips on his cold ones. "I won’t talk about anything else. Let’s hear about what you’ve been up to, then."
The corner of his lips curled, and the silver eyes gleamed mischievously. "Who said I’m going to talk?"
...oh.
