Chapter 298: A first date will always be a core memory
A wedding ceremony on the rooftop.
Just imagine; a beautiful, swirling rainbow as our lifelong pledge carved in our body and soul. Isn’t that wonderful?
I already knew that I wanted to have the ceremony in the Lair, but honestly, I hadn’t decided where exactly. Angwi and Arta had only talked about the guest room allocation and the food that should be prepared--something that did not need the venue for the ceremony.
But now, that image formed in my head and wouldn’t get out. The question was...would that be possible?
"Oh my--that sounded beautiful!" Zia clasped her hands, the sparkles back in her eyes. We looked at Angwi, who was in charge of the Lair, but she only pointed upward and shrugged.
"Ah...it’s not your jurisdiction?" Angwi nodded. "So the rooftop is the elemental birds’ territory, huh?"
Again, Angwi nodded and pointed at Jade, who stared cluelessly at me with round green eyes. Oh-ho...should I use my adorable child to coax the other elemental birds?
"Jade, I want to have my wedding ceremony on the rooftop," I stroked the chubby cheeks and pinched them gently. "Would you ask the other elemental birds with me?"
Jade tilted his head and closed his eyes, looking as if he was in deep contemplation. How cute. I rubbed circles in his cheeks while waiting for the answer, and the green eyes finally opened. "Okay! Jade will ask Seniors!"
Did he just call the other elemental birds his seniors? Pfft--I squeezed his cheeks and kissed them in gratitude. "Thank you, Jade."
"Mm! Because wedding important for Master!" the boy giggled and hugged my neck. "Jade want Master happy!"
Aah...my child is the best! I laughed and hugged the little boy, rubbing our cheeks together until Jade squealed and giggled in my embrace.
"Hmm...so the spot of the ceremony is decided right?" Zia snapped her fingers. "Then what about the party after? We’d have a small feast between the guests, right?"
"Of course," I nodded enthusiastically.
While I didn’t like big banquets with large crowds, I quite liked having a meal with a lot of friends, especially something like that community breakfast, where we ate together beneath the open sky.
"Oh!" I looked at Angwi again, eyes widened in anticipation. "Umm...can we have something like a garden party?" I asked her. I knew it would be a bother, to set up the venue and clean up after, so I felt rather guilty asking about it. "I think it’ll be nice to have a feast while looking at all the flowers...umm...like a picnic."
"Oh, that sounds lovely!" Zia exclaimed and started to clap in support.
"I’m fine as long as there’s food," Izzi shrugged.
Zia gave the elf side eyes. "Who said you can come?"
"My boss did," Izzi shrugged.
"Tsk."
"Is it possible?" I asked Angwi. She put a hand on her waist, and another one making that iconic coin sign which made me laugh. "Alright, I’ll tell Natha to pay you well."

"Tadaa!! Jade is here!" the little boy used the same greeting when we arrived at the rooftop.
Only, he didn’t jump up and down since I carried him. Jade could walk here by himself, of course, but the little boy wanted me to carry him all the way, saying that It was because I did such a reckless thing on the way.
Look at my kid using leverage and everything.
The elemental birds landed one by one around the wide rooftop--some on the floor, some on the railings, and some still flying in the air. All of their curious gazes were on us, and those who had landed on the floor scooted closer to surround us.
It reminded me of the first time Natha brought me here to meet them, the time Natha...kissed me, for the first time. Of course, his hand was between our lips at that time, but still...I could remember how hard my heart was beating at that time.
Ahh...wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could tie ourselves forever in this place?
I took a seat there, and had Jade in my lap as his ’seniors’ nuzzled the little child in curiosity. They made a screeching sound akin to laughter and Jade giggled in response. Some also rubbed their head on my cheek and Jade pushed them away. "No! Only Jade!"
Hey, hey--that wasn’t the attitude you should have when we were about to request something, Jade. I patted both the elemental bird and the little boy, shaking my head. "You must share, Jade. Letting them do it once wouldn’t make you lose a chance, would it?"
"Ngh..."
"Sharing is good, you know--you get more friends that way," I told the little boy, "And you shouldn’t act harshly toward your friend."
Even though I said it softly, Jade lowered his head and fiddled with his clothes like all the time I scolded the little bird. "Jade...Jade sorry..." the boy said quietly.
"It’s not me you should apologize to, no?"
Jade lifted his head and stretched his hand toward the elemental bird he pushed earlier, hugging their neck. "Jade sorry!"
The elemental birds murmured softly and nuzzled the boy’s neck, prompting Jade to laugh from the ticklish sensation. "Mm, good boy," I patted his head with appreciation.
Jade giggled and, while still holding onto the elemental bird, asked; "Senior, Senior! Master want to have wedding here! Is okay?"
The elemental birds tilted their heads, so I explained immediately. "Umm, so...I’m going to get...married...to Natha in the spring," I started, once again feeling embarrassed although I was talking to creatures who wouldn’t tease me. "And...and I want to do it here, in the Lair--also...in this place, the rooftop," I looked at them, locking gaze with the green elemental bird who greeted me first back then. "Would you...allow it?"
I looked at them earnestly, hoping that they would be able to understand it. Just like Jade, they might not understand the concept of marriage or wedding, since their community had no need of that. Amidst the waiting, Jade moved his arms energetically.
"Can we? Can we? It will make Master happy!" the little boy said. "Jade want Master happy!"
I hugged Jade from behind and both of us stared at the elemental birds with pleading eyes. The other elemental bird looked at the green ones in front of me, so I guessed they wanted this one to decide.
Slowly, the green elemental bird moved closer to us. In my sitting position, it was a tad bit taller than me and quite frankly, the sharp dark eyes made it look intimidating. As expected, the tower’s guardian did have immense charisma.
Just when I thought I would lose my breath, the bird lowered its green head and touched my forehead gently. Oh? Oh?
"Do you...approve? I can use this place?"
The elemental bird screeched once and Jade burst into a gleeful laugh, clapping energetically on my lap as the other elemental birds watched him fondly.
As I thought, cuteness is justice!

"And so? You get their permission?"
"Yep! Jade helped me persuade them!"
I told Natha about my intention to hold the ceremony on the rooftop once I got back from the Lair and him from the office, as he changed his clothes to a more casual one. He smiled proudly when I told him I managed to get permission from the elemental bird.
"That’s a good place," he said while putting on a thinner shirt. "And good job to ask for their permission right away."
"But you also approve, right? Doing it there, I mean..."
"I don’t mind as long as it’s a place that you chose," he smiled sweetly. "But why do you choose that place?"
The heat came to my face before the answer did. "Well, it’s a beautiful place, also..." I looked at him sheepishly before continuing. "It’s where...our first date was."
It might seem like nothing since we basically just go up two floors in the same building, but he did call it a ’date’, and it was the first time someone ever took me to one. Even though I was still suspicious of him at that time, and it ended in a misunderstanding, the memory of that day would never leave me. The feel of his embrace from behind, and the cold of his lips that I could feel even through his hand...
"God, you are beyond adorable," he grasped my flustered cheeks and kissed me sweetly. I felt my body lifted off the ground and before I realized it, he had already carried me out of the dressing room--all the while kissing me ceaselessly.
This is bad...
It made it harder for me to confess. My mind kept telling me to not destroy the good atmosphere, to just enjoy the nice kiss and embrace, to just keep it for tomorrow. It wouldn’t make any chance anyway.
No! I pulled away and shook my head slightly to get ahold of myself. If I delayed it for tomorrow, I would want to keep delaying it for the next time, and the next--and every time I delayed it, I would lose even more conviction, thinking that it would be alright as long as he did not find out.
And that wasn’t right.
So I had to do it now, while still having the courage to do so--even if I had to lose this sweet moment.
"What is it? You’re making a serious face," Natha asked while lowering me to the window side table. "Is there something wrong?"
Yeah, there was. I was the wrong one.
"Umm...Natha," I looked at him, gathering my courage. "I need to confess about something..."
