The Demon Lord's Bride (BL) -

Chapter 266: Of course, a Sacred Guardian’s abode should be special
Of course, Natha knew how to ride a wyvern. Why wouldn’t he? He’s Natha.
But even if he couldn’t, it was alright, because we didn’t need to control Vrida. All I needed to do was ask her to take us to our destination, and voila! I might not be able to have a full conversation with her like a true druid, but there was enough bloodline inside me to make sure I could communicate with her well.
"I wouldn’t say I’m surprised, but well...you really are a druid," the Vampire Lord commented as Natha lifted me up and put me on Vrida’s back.
It was already fitted with a comfortable padded saddle lined with fur for that extra fluffiness, and I already made sure Vrida wasn’t uncomfortable with the saddle. Thankfully, it was made of high-quality materials with care and tailored to her size.
"Well, it’s also because Vrida is such a good girl," I patted the side of the wyvern’s neck, and she let out another deep purr in response. See? A very good girl!
"That’s not what I heard from her tamer, but what do I know," the Vampire Lord shrugged and suddenly threw something at me.
A small box, even smaller than a ring box. As I opened it in wonder, there was a small deep red sphere inside. Or rather...was it a pill?
"An engagement gift," she curled her lips, probably because Natha was making a surprised face, and put his hand over the box to close it as if he didn’t want the content to be spoiled. He looked at the Vampire Lord seriously, which prompted Sada to sneer. "It’s not for you, it’s for Valen, because I like him more than I like you."
"In just three days?"
"Isn’t he a charming one? You must have been so dizzy making sure he’s not getting snatched by others," she laughed merrily at the way Natha clicked his tongue.
"Excuse me--I’m still here, you know," I sighed while carefully placing the box inside my storage ring. "Thank you, Sada."
"Mm, do come here again. No need to bring Natha along," she waved her hand as if the Demon Lord of Greed was just an afterthought.
I laughed as Natha climbed behind me while grumbling, and Vrida began to straighten her legs. "What’s that pill exactly?" I asked Natha in a whisper.
"Elixir of Second Life," Natha explained. "It allows an instant healing as long as the heart still pumping blood, basically giving a second life, hence the name."
What?!
"It is made from purifying the blood of a vampire on their thousandth birthday."
Again; what?!
And why? What have I done? Now I understood why Natha was surprised. Well, I got that she liked me, but this kind of gift...was it because I willingly participated in the ’research’ yesterday night? But I also said I did it to find out the lethal dose of--wait, that’s not the time for this!
"Thank you! Sada--thank you again! I’ll make sure to visit again!" I told her loudly to make sure she heard it despite the sound of the wind that Vrida’s wings made.
She laughed and waved her hand, so I responded in kind, and we took off with the sound of laughter and loud, excited chirping, until the Vampire Castle became smaller, and smaller, and smaller.
* * *
[Wheeeeee] Jade, using wind magic to maintain balance on top of Vrida’s head, squealing excitedly.
"Is it fun?" I asked with a laugh, making sure my coat and hood stayed in place. It acted like a helmet and windshield thanks to the spell embedded in it, so I wouldn’t have to feel like riding a rollercoaster without a safety belt.
[Yeeees! It’s faster than Jade!]
It was cute that the earlier jealousy had faded just like that, now that the little bird finding Vrida fun to be around. I nodded in satisfaction and leaned against the all-time reliable safety belt--I mean, Demon Lord--behind me. Natha patted my chest to make sure my coat was securely protecting me from the wind, before wrapping his arms around my waist.
"This is nice, like riding a very fast, flying motorcycle," I giggled while holding his arms.
"Motorcycles shouldn’t be this fast and flying in the first place," Natha shook his head and chuckled. "And shouldn’t you ride on the back in that case?"
"Don’t sweat the details!" I clicked my tongue at this realistic Demon Lord, who just laughed and tightened his hold on me.
Well, anyway, although I had flown with an airship before, and had floated in the air with Natha, riding a wyvern was a completely different stuff. Of course, it wasn’t as comfortable as an airship or flying carriages, but it was definitely faster. It wasn’t just a matter of speed, though, but also the way I could see the scenery on all sides while feeling the refreshing cold wind.
And, Mother--I think I know now why there were a lot of people who dreamt of flying.
To be able to see the Vampire Castle from above, and then the whole cityscape...ah, I truly wish we managed to make a camera soon. Or better yet, a video recording. I would be able to record all of these things I saw; all the farmlands that the vampires grew, the castles they lived in, and even the ruins that explorers and adventurers raided. Riding a wyvern meant you could go low or high, and maneuver all you wanted, so we ended up looking closer at places I wanted to observe, and Natha would give explanations about them.
You know what this was called? A road trip.
It felt like something I would never be able to do if I didn’t go to this world and meet Natha. Wonderful.
From the Vampire Capital, we were heading deeper into the center of the demon realm, a mountain range that was surrounded by forest and a vast plateau. It was a place that technically fell within the region of Gluttony, but wasn’t part of anyone’s jurisdiction.
Of course, since we were in the middle of the winter, the forest and plateau were getting blanketed by snow, and didn’t look like there was anything special with the place. The snowy mountains looked more intimidating than beautiful as we were getting closer, especially because Natha suddenly told me to grab Jade. While I called the little bird to come inside my coat, Natha spread his mana around us, including Vrida, and only a few seconds after that, I felt a slight turbulence as we breached an invisible barrier.
I had to close my eyes for a bit as we passed the barrier surrounding the place, and when I opened them again...
"Oh, wow..."
It was no longer a field of snow.
As if symbolizing the eternal life and unchanging time of the vampire, the world on the other side of the barrier knew not of the changing of seasons. Or probably the changing of time. A vibrant world that was beautiful, and yet different. A lush colorful forest, a plateau dyed in yellow hue, cliffs covered in reddish algae. They circled a mountain range that was filled with white blossom trees, filling the air with a fragrant scent and a sense of serenity.
It was so beautiful, so magnificent, that it didn’t feel real. It was so much like a painting, so flawless, as if someone took a perfect photograph of the right place during the right time, and decided to live inside that photograph.
That was why I said I felt like time did not change here.
There was a weird sense of stagnancy. The scenery looked as if the place was bathed in spring festivity, yet everything felt old, ancient. Spring should be the time for a new life, for budding sprouts to peek out beneath the softening soils, for hiding animals to surface and creating more lives.
But I don’t sense those here.
I looked up and took a deep breath, spreading my consciousness to confirm my conjecture, and felt a soft force of mana enveloping the whole place. The mana strands spread out and connected to each other like a giant net encompassing the whole space, and all the flow came from a single point; the mountain.
Or rather, the building on top of the mountain.
"What is it?" Natha sensed my confusion and uneasiness, caressing my arms as Vrida glided slower toward the mountain.
"No, it’s just..." I hesitated for a bit, thinking about the way to explain it. "It’s like entering a dimensional pocket."
I looked down at my necklace, at where Shwa was, and thought about how it would feel like to be living there. This place felt like a massive version of this dimensional field, but it also did not feel artificial, just...stagnant.
"Hmm...I see," Natha nodded, seemingly understanding what I meant without any difficulty. "Is it because this place kept repeating the same day?"
...huh?
