Chapter 262: I heard a chef is basically a scientist making edible stuff

Do we really have to attend all of these feasts?

Yes, yes we do. It was the custom here to hold a feast every time there was a guest, and it wasn’t just once, but on each day the guest stayed. So, yeah...I would have to power through this event every night.

But Natha told the Vampire Lord that I didn’t like taking my meal in public places--like the court hall--so the feast was now being held in the Lord’s quarters. Aside from the three vampires who attended yesterday, the other four vassals also came today. It seemed like they originally came for a meeting with Natha today, and extended their stay for the feast.

If you asked me how it felt to be surrounded by tall, pale, gorgeous people--you asked the wrong person. You had to ask their ’mother’, who for some reason stayed petite, unlike the other vampires.

For me, it was just a nice scenery, hehe. I wondered if they all looked good because they always ate high-quality food with a high content of mana. But probably because they were always on this hunt for mana, they all looked at me with interest.

No, no--they weren’t that suicidal to entertain the thought of drinking my blood with Natha by my side. But they did say they were interested in how potent my blood was.

I told you before that the high concentration of purified mana inside my system was comparable to liquor with high alcohol content. It was so thick that they would have to deconstruct the mana particle inside so they could absorb it without experiencing overdrive--which told me that if someday a vampire wanted to harm me, I could just pour my blood into their mouth and watch them seizing.

Or at least, that was the theory.

There was an excerpt from the vampire guideline book to never ask a druid for their blood even in an emergency, unless they had a way to dilute it. That was why no vampire had ever attempted to do it. But now they couldn’t help but be curious, especially because I was also half-human. They wondered if the potency was the same, and which was better between diluting it in pure water and diluting it in other drinks.

How do I say this; their curiosity was like a chef wondering the best way to process a puffer fish. Was it poisonous? Yes. Did it look tasty? Yes. Would they risk their life by pursuing it? Of course. Would they continue? Definitely.

Fascinating creatures, those chefs were.

"Are you kidding me?"

But of course, Natha wouldn’t let people have any thought about drawing my blood. I don’t think he would ever let me donate blood if there was such a thing here.

The vampires instantly made a disappointed face; Sada even pouted while eating her meal. What a curious bunch--they usually didn’t show much in their face, but if it was something they had great interest in, it was like they couldn’t let go.

"Hmm...I’m curious, though," I told them honestly, which prompted Natha to turn his head so fast toward me.

"Sweetheart--"

"See, your betrothed has more spirit to pursue knowledge!" the Vampire Lord slapped the table surface, before giving me a thumbs up.

The vampires--except for Eruha, who merely ate his meal quietly, perhaps because he didn’t want to get fired by his boss--looked at me with sparks in their red eyes. But, well...

I faced Natha and told him with what I hoped was a reassuring smile. "I want to see if I can use my blood as a weapon if a rogue vampire comes to me in the future."

"Hey!"

Natha raised his brow and nodded while tapping his chin. "Ah, that makes sense,"

"What makes sense?!"

"A valid reason," Lesta gave his approval too.

"But I still don’t like the thought of you bleeding out" Natha narrowed his eyes, looking at me sternly even though his hand caressing my hair in all gentleness.

I waved my hand nonchalantly and told him what I thought earlier. "I’m just thinking about cutting my finger a bit and dropping the blood in their mouth," with a shrug, I continued. "You know, the kind that can be healed easily with my regeneration."

The vampire parted their lips dumbfoundedly as Natha patted my head. "Only a little bit," he said, still with a stern voice but a lighter tone.

Meanwhile, the vampires looked like they didn’t know whether they should be happy or offended, chuckling among themselves. The Vampire Lord looked at me and shook her head. "There is a reason why you are Natha’s bride."

So that was how the after-dinner coffee turned into science class. Well, they were the ones who did the science, and I was the material. It was good that Jade had already fallen asleep from the day’s adventure, otherwise, the little bird would probably made a lot of fuss when Natha very carefully took out a syringe.

So much for being worried about wounds and injury--turned out they did have syringes in this world. And of course, Natha refused other people to draw my blood, even when Sada offered to call the Castle’s physicians.

"Do you even know how to do it?" she looked at Natha skeptically.

"More than you," Natha replied casually while rubbing alcohol on the inside of my elbow, looking as professional as professional could be.

It had already been almost seven decades since he became a doctor, but I guessed he still remembered everything, including how to locate the veins. To be fair, he could see my bloodstream with his eyes just like how he could see my mana veins, so it was an easy talk for him.

It wasn’t an easy task for me. If he wore a white lab coat--or even just a white coat in general--I would die. I would die and ascend.

"Calm down, sweetheart," Natha chuckled at my increasing heartbeat. Yeah, there was no need for adrenaline or aphrodisiac for me.

But how could I calm down when my fantasy almost manifested in front of me? I had to remind myself that we were in a public space and I had a needle in my hand. My face was obviously flushed, though, and I could see his smirk while he drew my blood.

And then, when it was done, he had the audacity to pat my head and said "Good boy," like I was a real patient, which made me smack his cheeks and squeeze them--because I might be tempted to make out with him then and there.

But he, the demon, leaned over and whispered to my ear. "Wait until the lab coat is finished."

Oh, for fuck’s sake.

"Hey, hey, hey--no flirting here," the Vampire Lord wiggled her finger in front of us.

But Natha did not move away from me, keeping his arm around my shoulder as we watched the vampires go on full scientist node--scientist plus chef. They had prepared vials filled with different liquids; water, wine, herbal concoctions, and something I had no idea what. They drip my blood into each vial, and what was left of it they divided among themselves.

And they proceed to taste my blood; raw and undiluted. Even the Vampire Lord.

"Ugh--" one of the vampires who seemed to be the youngest was coughing and grabbing his throat, before taking a pitch of water and pouring it in his mouth. "God--that burns!"

"Pathetic," an older vampire sneered at him, although he was also coughing once.

"This is truly potent," Atoye commented. "I feel drunk."

"But it’s nice," the Vampire Lord licked her lips, and Natha tightened his hand on my shoulder. "But I don’t think I can drink more than a spoonful."

Hmm...I wondered if that spoonful was enough to harm an ordinary vampire. Not that I wanted any vampire to come and try to harm me, though.

Done with testing the undiluted blood, they started to process the vials, and had the youngest try them because apparently, they wanted to see the effect on the weakest one. The result was as such; it was purer in water, but tasted better in wine.

"I wonder what it tasted like," I muttered as I watched the excited ’scientists’.

"Sweetheart?"

"No--I don’t mean I want to taste my own blood. I’m just curious about the sensation," I corrected myself immediately.

The Vampire Lord, hearing my words, immediately snapped her fingers and something was coming out of thin air. "If you wonder what it tasted like, you can try this."

I looked at the bottle in front of the Vampire Lord, which was obviously a liquor. Atoye proceeded to open the bottle and pour the contents into a glass before bringing it over to me.

"It is brewed with the purest mana crystal," Sada explained, and I took the glass with interest. I looked at Natha and he nodded, telling me to sip just a bit first, and so I did.

And whew--it burns my throat slightly. It was rather bitter with a slight sweetness, spreading warmth inside my body, but also felt refreshing. "Not bad...?"

"Oh-ho!" Sada suddenly slammed her palms on the table and called out to the servants to bring more wines and alcoholic drinks inside. "This means we have to party!"

What? Didn’t we just have a feast? Wasn’t that a party, already?

But I had never been truly drinking again after the kingdom’s banquet where I met Natha. Secretly, I felt excited--mainly because Natha was here and I knew I would be safe. Perhaps that was why I let loose and accepted their drinking challenge.

Different from the time in the kingdom’s banquet, this time I had already awakened my druit lineage, so I was less influenced by alcohol. It even fascinated me how much I could drink without being too intoxicated. Before I could be fully drunk, I was already feeling full from all the liquid. Not to mention all the food I ate earlier.

"Ugh...I feel so full," I patted my tummy, which felt soft and round. "It feels like when Natha is inside me..."

splurt!

I heard the Vampire Lord spraying water everywhere. Eww. And then I heard Natha’s voice. "Sweetheart?"

I looked at him, feeling dazed and a bit sleepy, but he was so handsome that I couldn’t help but keep my eyes open so I could see him. I reached out to pat his cheek, and then tugged his sleeve.

"Pee..." I pouted. "Wanna pee..."

"...okay," he laughed, looking so handsome and sounded so good. "Let’s get you out of here."

"Ngh--carry me!" I reached out my arms, and Natha lifted me into his embrace.

Wrapping my arms tightly around his neck, I giggled against his neck, and I felt my body moving away from everyone. It felt like flying, so fun! I should have asked him to carry me more often! Everyday!

"Good night," I saw Lesta give me a little wave, and I laughed, waving at him and all the vampires.

"Bye bye..."
