Chapter 198: Can people really tell this stuff?

"Oh," I clasped my stomach with a gasp, as if it could cover the loud sound it just produce.

"Well, we skipped dinner last night," Natha chuckled and put a cup in my hands. "Drink this first before we go down."

I looked at the cup in my hands and tilted my head. It was different from my usual herbal drink. The cup was smaller, and the scent of herbs was stronger, like traditional medicine. "What is this?" I asked while sniffing the liquid.

"It’s a concoction to prevent unwanted effects from Intercourse,"

...a concoction for what?

I looked at him blankly--had no idea if my brain was paralyzed by ’unwanted effects’ or ’intercourse’. Whatever it was, my cheeks were heating up again. Was this why the maid who brought the tray earlier was blushing? It was practically announcing what we just did!

"Uhh...what unwanted effect?" I blinked at him. "Like...pregnancy?"

Natha, in the middle of wearing his coat, paused. He stared at me for a few seconds before asking dead on. "Can you?"

"Of course not!"

And why did you ask that so seriously? But he immediately laughed and walked over to me. "There’s another concoction for that one," he said, pointing to the pregnancy thing. "This one is just a precaution for bacterial infection and such."

Oo--bacterial infection. Ah, right, we didn’t wear protection or anything. Wait--I didn’t think there was one in this world?

"This is a common staple for couples with active sexual life," Natha pushed the cup to my lips. "Drink it. It tasted worse in lower temperature."

That effectively drove me to drink everything in one big gulp. And it tasted...I don’t know--weird? It didn’t have the delicate sweetness and spreading warmth that my usual herbal drink had. But it wasn’t bitter like I was afraid of. Instead, it tasted...grassy? Leavy? I definitely realized I was drinking herbs extract when I drank this.

Natha took my empty cup and replaced it with another, more familiar mug. Ah...this one was my usual herbal drink--the warm and sweet one. I took a sip immediately to erase the weird taste in my mouth and the drink seemed to taste even sweeter.

"What about you?" I asked him in curiosity. Or was it only drank by the one being penetrated?

"I drank it already," he replied briefly before vanishing into the dressing room next door.

Ah, so it was for both sides. But they prepared this early in the morning...was Natha always had this in the ready, bringing it everywhere? "Do you just have this laying around? Or is it something that’s easily available everywhere?"

"It’s available in any pharmacy," Natha shrugged as he came out with my outer robe. "But we do have this laying around in the mansion. Did you forget who lived on the other side of this house?"

"Oh!"

The courtesans! That’s right--I remembered now! This was one of the things they ’taught’ me after that shopping session.

I drank the rest of my drink before following Natha to go down for breakfast. Ah, it felt like it had been so long since I had my meal at a proper table. I moved lightly and there were skips in my steps.

At that moment, walking alongside Natha to have breakfast, I felt so...whole. So complete. Like I had everything that I wanted in this world.

Perhaps because I was.

[Master!]

The moment we entered the dining hall, Jade flew to me from Lesta’s shoulder like a colorful cannonball. It was just less intense than yesterday, when it tackled me to the bed with raining petals.

The little bird’s chirping sound was like an alarm bell that told everyone I was there. The sounds of dragging chairs followed the greetings that the other demons gave me. I could see that Arta wanted to hug me again, but she held back with Natha hovering behind me.

In return for not being able to hug me, she smiled deeply instead. "You look good, Young Master," she said while clearing her throat.

"...thank you?"

I blinked confusedly because she said it in a mischievous tone. The one people did when they teased a child. When I looked at her, I saw the corners of her lips curled in a knowing smirk. But before I could truly decipher it, I heard another comment.

"Mm, absolutely rosy," Rubha tapped her cheek while looking at me with narrowed eyes.

"Beautifully shining," Opti remarked from the other side.

I looked around and realized they were all looking at me with teasing, subdued smiles. The only one with a neutral, calm face was the druid lady from yesterday, who greeted me with a simple nod. "W-what is this? What are you doing?!"

"Stop teasing him," Natha reprimanded the others with a sharp glare and they averted their eyes while pressing their lips.

Somehow, it felt even worse!

[I don’t really understand it] I flinched when Ignis suddenly talked in my head. The Salamander quietly climbed onto my shoulder to join Jade. [But they kept talking about what you were doing last night]

Oh, Goddess...

[What exactly are you doing last night?]

Ignis’s question almost made me shriek right then and then. I couldn’t help but bury my face deeply in my palm.

[Master is happy last night!] Jade suddenly gave an input. [Jade feel it!]

Oh, my Goddess!

This time, I truly screamed, although the sound was muffled by my hands. My face felt like they were burning, and I wanted to cry in embarrassment. Should I feel relieved that my companions were too innocent and pure to know about this?

"Heh," I heard Natha chuckle beside me, and I smacked him loudly. It made him laugh instead, and the teasing smile was back on their face.

So I had to endure going through breakfast while knowing that everyone was privy to my bedroom life. Well...it was bound to happen the moment Natha ordered that concoction. No--it might already be bound to happen since we both skipped dinner last night. It was the risk one would have to bear living in a mansion together with many people.

I knew it was a form of endearment on their part, that they were happy with the progress of our relationship. But it didn’t mean I wouldn’t get embarrassed by it! After breakfast, I kicked Natha’s shin and ran out of the dining hall with my little companions with a pout.

Hmph--that’s for laughing at me earlier!

But as I ran outside, something came to my mind. This fluster, this embarrassment that crawled in my skin, the heat in my cheek, and the annoyance in my heart...

They were all mine.

This happiness too, the lightness in my steps, was all mine. My two little companions, my teasing friends, they were mine.

This is my life--I thought to myself. As much as it was Valmeier, it was also mine, and none other. This demon is my home. This world is my home. I lived here, and I would continue to live here. As Valen, as Valmeier. As Natha’s bride, but also as myself.

As I realized it, I ran even faster. But this time, instead of pursing my lips, I was laughing. Ignis grabbed into my hair and Jade flew along with me while chirping cheerfully, sensing my merry thought. We arrived at the spacious grass field that separated two sides of the mansion, and I decided to do what I wanted to do since yesterday; running barefooted.

I used to do this in the Lair, and I felt like I did that because I considered the Lair as my home. And now...this world was my home too, so I could do whatever I wanted, right? I had no idea how sweet the air of liberation was--a liberation of my own thoughts and insecurities.

A liberation of my own body.

Now, this body wasn’t just a vessel. It was no longer Valmeier’s body, but our body. My body.

This sensation upon my nerves and all over my skin, the things I saw and heard and experienced...everything was mine.

"Oh, if it isn’t Honey,"

I stopped running and looked to the side, toward the rotunda where the courtesans were having some rest after their morning walk. They waved their hands at me, so I approached them with a smile. Well, I was in a good mood anyway.

But when I got closer, they stared at me with narrowed eyes and arched brows. "My, my," the bunny smirked. "You did it, didn’t you?"

I paused my step and pressed my lips as the other whistled.

"Oh, my--Honey!"

"Congratulation?"

"Finally!"

Oh, my Gods! Was it really that easy to tell whether someone had just had some? How could everyone know already?!

"Aah--stop!" I raised my hands in front of me to stop them from talking further. But what did I know? They got even nosier.

"Hey, hey, why are you just standing there," the cat lady waved and beckoned me to join them at the rotunda. "Come here, come here."

"Uhh--"

Before I could decide that it wasn’t a good idea to be caught by these overly energized demons, some of them already came up to me.

"Come and tell this Sister about your first experience, yeah?"

"Is it good? Was the Lord being gentle?"

I pressed my lips and shook my head. "I don’t want to talk about it."

"Aw, come on," they circled my arms and nudged me like how Jade would nudge me for candy. "You finally popped your cherry, you gotta spill some tea on us, Honey."

Aaaah! Did they need to spell it like that??

[Cherry?]

Agh! My innocent baby!

"No!" I raised my arms to free myself from them and, for the second time that morning, ran again.

"Come back, Honey!"

"Don’t be shy!"

I could hear their giggles all the way to the garden as I ran. They wouldn’t try to follow me right? As I looked for a place to hide, I suddenly saw someone; my refuge! The only person who didn’t seem like they wanted to tease me until I turned into a boiled crab! I ran toward her and waved my hand shamelessly.

"Amarein! Amarein! Save me!"
