The Demon Lord's Bride (BL) -
Chapter 100: My Demon Lord is cute when he got jealous
Chapter 100: My Demon Lord is cute when he got jealous
I already felt the demon’s presence when Natha rubbed my back, which was why I asked him if we really would proceed to...you know.
Heraz, as someone in charge of espionage and infiltration, must have known what we were doing the moment he landed on the balcony. And through my heightened senses, I could feel his flustered and panic. He was probably confused about how he should proceed. Should he leave since we were in the middle of something? Or should he stay since we hadn’t done anything more?
There was probably no protocol on how he should act in this kind of instance, since the Lord never had a lover before.
And now, he was crouching in front of Natha and me, as we move to the front of the fireplace. His skin was paler than usual, and I couldn’t even see his face from how deep he was bowing.
"Forgive me, my Lord, for my impudent trespassing," there was a slight tremble in his voice, which I couldn’t blame. After all, Natha was looking at him coldly, visibly annoyed at the timing of his appearance.
Well, I knew this, but I also didn’t think I could concentrate on anything without hearing what this demon wanted to report to me. And that was why I insisted on letting him inside to hear about it. Better fulfilled my curiosity first rather than having my mind flying everywhere in the middle of...whatever it was Natha wanted to do earlier.
"No need for too much courtesy, just spill it fast."
Wow, he really was impatient, huh? It was also refreshing seeing this side of Natha, since he was always the one who remained calm in any situation usually.
"By your command," Heraz bowed even more, at this point looking more like he was groveling than kneeling. The pale demon shifted slightly so he faced me rather than Natha, and started to give his account.
This too, felt different, since I usually received the report alone without Natha being there. Having Heraz facing my direction made it clear that Natha’s order about him serving ’me’ was still in effect. So he gave the report to me, not Natha.
"As Young Master instructed, we continued tailing the hero and his new companion. The boy from the monastery seemed to learn about priesthood from the books and notes that were left in the church, and became a priest through a ceremony in Estalla Kingdom."
Oh? That already steered differently from how it should be. If I recalled correctly, there was no priest in the hero’s new companion, supposedly. I believe the boy should either be a warrior or a paladin.
"Are they still there?"
"No," Heraz shooked his head slightly and immediately continued. "They moved constantly since the kingdom’s agents still looking for them. They did leave the old nun in the monastery, however."
Hmm...I tilted my head to ponder this information, but Natha already voiced what I was thinking. "Knowing the hero boy’s disposition, it must have been the nun that asked to be left behind."
"Since she felt she was a burden?" I asked, and Natha nodded in response.
"That, and because the agent shouldn’t be able to do much in other kingdom’s church, lest it would incite the Holy Empire’s inquisition," Natha tapped on his chin.
There was a Holy Empire? I didn’t even know that. Seemed like I need to learn more about geography, including that of the human. I had been learning only about demon realms these days. Ah well, I could think about that later.
"So where are they now?" I shifted my gaze back toward Heraz, who immediately responded as if delaying even one second would mean death.
"Right now, they are in Kallean, a principality under Baeilliz Empire."
Ugh--hearing the name of that Empire got me shuddering. Why would they be somewhere related to the Crossroad Empire when they were in Estalla not long ago? But looking at my apparent confusion, Heraz explained more.
"As you know, after coming down from your church, they ran to the border with the Empire. But they made a journey to Estalla so the boy could perform a priesthood ceremony, since the Empire’s priesthood process is more complicated," Heraz paused for a bit to take a short breath, before continuing. "And right after leaving the nun to the monastery there, they traveled back to the Empire’s territory."
Hmm...rather than more complicated, it was probably because the Empire had a different patron God. After all, there were seven minor Gods that humankind worshipped, and they were almost as competitive in their faith as they were with other realms’ Gods. Eh--whatever. I didn’t even know which God Valmeier used as a patron without looking into his memory first.
"That was fast..." Natha muttered in the middle of my pondering.
Oh, true. In this fantasy world where they had to travel on foot or with a horse, moving between regions was a taxing affair, unless you could teleport like Natha, or could build a teleportation portal like Natha.
Damn...you were really something, my Lord.
"The hero acquired a merchant companion in the Empire. You might have heard of her, my Lord, the one called the Golden Fox," Heraz told Natha, and added, perhaps for me. "The owner of the merchant guild Midas."
I almost coughed on my night tonic when I heard the name. Wait wait wait...was there anything called that in this world? Midas--a name that most likely hailed from the legend on Earth. I mean...I knew this world was a novel, but I was pretty sure the author girl tried to not use names with historical or cultural impact on Earth.
So what was this? Midas? Could it be...
"Sweetheart?" my frantic thought was cut short by Natha’s cold fingers swiping water dripping from my chin.
"O...oh, sorry. I just...didn’t think he would get someone so high profile this fast..."
Look at that--my swerving skill was advancing. Even Natha nodded in agreement instead of getting suspicious.
"True that. It’s quite impressive that the boy managed to meet that girl," the silver eyes narrowed slightly, before his smile stretched into a smirk. "Is this what they called the Hero’s Perk? Fortuitous encounter, or something like that?"
"From what we gathered, the Hero and the priest are masquerading as the Golden Fox’s bodyguard," Heraz was back on his report, and then paused for a bit, and for the first time lifted his gaze to look at me and Natha. "And right now, they are involved with the principality’s rebel force."
We paused for a bit, as I tried to digest this information. He was involved in what?! Beside me, Natha suddenly burst out laughing, and I sighed while shaking my head. "Hah! This boy is serious about his Hero-ing career, huh?" the Lord finally looked like he was no longer in a bad mood.
Yeah, it was indeed hilarious, I guessed. Ahh...what were you doing when you were still a fugitive, dude? You should just stay still and built your strength in the shadow.
But then, I guessed it was indeed in his character to do so. I didn’t know much about the detailed plot of the sequel, but it wouldn’t be weird if ’helping a rebel force obtain freedom’ was included in the Hero’s righteous journey. I was more interested in this ’Midas’ actually, and the Golden Fox who made it. Because maybe...just maybe...they were also someone who came from Earth.
Also, I didn’t recall there being any merchant companion among the Hero’s party. So again, the course of the story that I knew already changed--even though I only knew so little in the first place.
"Is that all?" I asked Heraz then, which nodded in response.
"That was all about the Hero, Young Master."
"Alright," I tapped my cheek and tilted my head in ponder. "In that case, can you give me some information about this rebel campaign? And oh, please get me anything you know about Midas and the Golden Fox."
"As you command," the demon bowed low again. But he seemed to have something else to report, because he didn’t immediately retreat from the room like usual. "Yes?"
This time, he also glanced toward Natha before speaking. "We found the trace of the elf fugitive, Young Master. We might be able to find him soon, so..." again, he glanced at Natha, as if hesitating in who he should ask permission for. "Should we bring him to you immediately after we find him?"
Ah...no wonder he was hesitating. For this, even I had no gall to make a decision alone. So I turned my head to the Lord to await judgment.
"He’s a stubborn and slippery one, so just apprehend him immediately. Try to use my name to get him a bit more obedient, I’ll give you permission for this one," Natha said, and Heraz immediately bowed again.
"By your grace and command," the demon said.
This time, he retreated immediately after, as if staying longer here would result in irrevocable punishment. I could even see him trembling as he retreated to the window and blended into the night again.
"Ha ha...I didn’t think Heraz could be any paler, but--whoa!" I was muttering absentmindedly when my body suddenly felt lighter, and the next thing I knew, I was already being held by the Demon Lord, who stared at me with frowning brows.
"Are you that interested in the Hero?" he spat coldly while carrying me back to the bedroom. "That’s enough about him. I don’t want to hear about him anymore tonight. No--I don’t want you to talk about anyone anymore tonight."
I blinked at the harsh tone in Natha’s voice, and tilted my head to stare at his face keenly. "Are you...jealous?"
He paused, the hand holding me went tighter as he returned my gaze with a hardened one--and maybe...just a hint of fluster. "Yes," he said, prompting my lips to stretch.
"Wow," I muttered in awe. Never in my mind did I imagine Natha getting jealous of someone over me. I gripped his shoulder tightly as I let out a slight chuckle. "Why would you be? I’ve never even met him. I only ever saw him from afar...and then you immediately kidnap me," I told him in a whisper, reminding him of that banquet where I took his hand and ended up living in this place ever since.
"But you still interested in what he’s doing," Natha replied curtly while resuming our journey to the bedroom.
Ugh--well, that was true. But it wasn’t like I could just tell him that I watched the Hero to prepare for his inevitable visit in the future, so I just hummed vaguely in response. I could feel Natha’s piercing stare as we entered the bedroom, and turned my face away with a wry laugh.
"Doesn’t matter," Natha muttered lowly, and in the next second, a sharp gasp escaped my lips as I felt his cold hand on my lower body. "I just need to make sure you can’t think of anything else tonight."
...shit.
