Chapter 48: Agares Vs Shadepiercer Sword Spirit
Chapter 48: Agares Vs Shadepiercer Sword Spirit
’Saber Necromancer? I never expected that,’ muttered Agares.
The more Agares tried to resist the dark power, the more intense the pain in his body became.
Li couldn’t do much to help. The sword, Shadepiercer, was already in Agares’s hands—he had to resolve this on his own.
Before long, Agares’s eyes changed—no longer glowing with dark purple light, but turning completely black.
Li remained silent, then nodded in understanding of what was happening to Agares.
Agares’s mind was transported to a desert-like place, but the ground was black, and the sky was red. Strong winds blew dust into the air, yet it didn’t bother him.
"Where am I?" asked Agares.
He walked forward, aimlessly, trying to find a way out of the black desert. But his efforts were in vain.
At the height of his despair, a loud boom echoed across the desert sky. The piercing sound caught Agares’s attention.
He looked up and witnessed the moment the red clouds split apart.
A colossal black sword shot down from the sky and struck the black desert, shaking the earth and blasting winds in all directions.
Agares drew his sword and thrust it into the ground, trying to shield himself from the impact.
The giant black sword embedded itself firmly into the desert floor, shocking Agares. For a brief moment, he noticed its resemblance to the Shadepiercer.
"Is that... the Shadepiercer?"
After it landed, a mysterious figure emerged from the sword through a dark portal. Agares gasped—it was indeed the Shadepiercer.
"Are you the sword spirit?"
The mysterious figure appeared after its dark aura vanished, revealing a woman in a short, shoulder-less black dress, holding a sword that looked just like Shadepiercer.
Her eyes opened, glowing maroon crescent-shaped pupils that locked directly onto Agares.
"A person with the element of darkness. I don’t know how a human like you managed to attain a dominant dark element. But I am not afraid!"
"You’re not worthy of wielding my sword!" she snapped.
In a flash of black light, the woman vanished from in front of the Shadepiercer and reappeared instantly right before Agares.
Agares reacted swiftly, raising his sword to block the strike from the woman. The clash of their blades echoed loudly, sending ripples of energy through the surroundings.
The man dropped to one knee, realizing her power far exceeded his own. She kicked forward, landing a blow straight to his face.
Agares couldn’t dodge and was sent flying backward.
"Argh!"
Agares groaned in pain, rising from his back and keeping an eye on her movements. Without mercy, the woman charged forward again, swinging her blade—not to duel, but to kill.
"Activate Skill!"
"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"
[Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave Activated]
With no mana cost, Agares could use his saber skills freely. He stood up and leapt back, dodging her thrust.
His eyes glowed purple as dark energy flowed into his sword. He slashed it vertically and horizontally.
The shadowy slash surged forward, hitting the woman and creating a large violet explosion. Agares used the momentum to retreat.
"Her power is terrifying. Is this the strength of a tier-five sword?" he wondered, standing farther from the blast.
Agares thought his saber skill had wounded her, but it hadn’t. She stood tall, dispersing the purple smoke clouding the area. A wide smile spread across her face.
"Not a mage, but a saber. Fascinating," she said.
"Let me try your skill."
Her eyes turned black as dark energy surged into her sword. She swung it vertically, horizontally, then thrust forward, forming a cross-shaped arrow of energy.
"Feel the sting of your own skill!" she shouted.
Agares squinted. He didn’t know what was happening, but he chose to defend using his second skill.
"Activate Skill!"
"Saber Skill: Abyssal Ward!"
[Saber Skill: Abyssal Ward Activated]
A massive bat-winged shadow rose behind Agares. The figure moved its wings and enveloped him in a protective dome.
Their powers clashed. Her skill collided with the dome’s dark defense.
BLAST!
An enormous explosion shattered the barrier, sending Agares flying again. He was wounded and could see his body becoming transparent—a sign he couldn’t hold on much longer.
"What do you want?" asked Agares.
The woman in the black dress stepped forward with steady confidence, still gripping the Shadepiercer. She gazed coldly at him, as if a great ambition burned within her.
"I want to destroy mankind, and I’ll start with you!"
"Tch!"
Agares fell into despair.
"Then come at me!"
"Show me if you can defeat me or not!"
"ACTIVATE SKILL!"
"Saber Skill: Execution Eclipse!"
[Saber Skill: Execution Eclipse Activated]
Thunder and fierce winds swirled around Agares—the indirect effect of activating his third skill. The woman fell silent, then looked to the sky, where Agares now flew.
"Just as I thought. You’re going for your final strike!"
Agares soared upward, summoning a red moon behind him, with a massive bat-winged shadow forming behind it.
His eyes glowed dark violet, his sword radiating the same energy.
Instead of compressing the power from the moon and shadow, Agares funneled all that dark energy into his sword, amplifying its strength many times over.
His hands burned from the power, but the injury was minor compared to the death that awaited.
Focusing downward, Agares saw the black-dressed woman standing with her sword planted in the ground, preparing to use a mimicry of his second skill.
As her blade absorbed the power of the red moon and the shadow, the entities behind Agares vanished.
He was ready.
He dove at high speed from the sky, gripping his sword with both hands. The energy around it formed a massive violet blade aimed straight at the woman.
"GOOD!"
"SHOW ME YOUR STRENGTH!" she shouted.
"HYAAAAAAA!"
"YOU WON’T TAKE MY BODY!" screamed Agares.
His sword collided with her dome-shaped barrier.
BLAST!
The explosion was enormous, breaking his sword into pieces that scattered into ashes. But Agares wasn’t done.
From the purple-black light, a gigantic sword-shaped energy surged at the impact point. Her barrier shattered, her eyes widening in disbelief.
Agares’s body was flung far back, landing on the ground, limp and exhausted. His sword was destroyed, his energy gone, his mind in disarray. He had surrendered to fate.
"Am I... going to die?"
From the fading glow of the sword, the explosion cleared, revealing the woman—also thrown back.
She was badly wounded and no longer holding her sword. She hadn’t expected a human could overpower her.
"Ugh."
She managed to stand and stared at the enormous crater and the fire still burning from the blast. In the distance, she saw Agares lying down, his body appearing translucent.
"Impressive."
She limped forward and picked up the Shadepiercer, dragging it across the ground.
The man saw her—still alive after all that. Agares gave a faint smile. There was no way he could defeat her.
Now, she stood beside him, her eyes full of desire and freedom as she looked down at him.
"You’re strong... but not strong enough to defeat me."
"I know."
Agares’s vision blurred. His body no longer had any strength. Even moving a finger was impossible.
He gave her one final smile—at least his death wouldn’t harm anyone else.
She grabbed the hilt of her sword and pointed its blade at Agares. It was the first time anyone had challenged her so fiercely for control over the sword.
But in the end, it was always the same. She was the one who would win.
"Goodbye, Saber!"
