Chapter 34: S-Level Dungeon

Agares continued to drive his horse relentlessly from the first intersection to reach the S-level dungeon.

Judging by the time it took, Agares would arrive at the dungeon entrance in at least another hour and a half.

Aoi fell into a deep sleep in the hood of Agares’ black cloak, enjoying the breeze and the warmth of Agares’ body, especially the back of his head.

Lucky for Agares! Throughout his journey from Berdiver City to his current location, he didn’t meet a single bandit even though he was crossing a forest area.

Perhaps there were no bandits roaming around Berdiver City because they had all been defeated by the city’s soldiers.

Even so, Agares had to remain alert and vigilant. He didn’t want to let his guard down just because he hadn’t found any bandits along the way.

During the trip, Agares was only accompanied by Nyx, whom he had forced to stay active.

She couldn’t return to standby mode because Agares feared he would fall asleep during the trip.

An hour and a half passed, Agares’ horse-drawn carriage came to a halt. Agares’ attention was fixed ahead, watching a vast expanse of red earth, with withered and dead trees.

At first glance, Agares was reminded of the moment he first set foot in the Red Line.

What Agares saw before him was exactly the same as what he had seen and felt in the Red Line.

The only difference was that there were no mutated animals here, unlike in the Red Line.

"Why is there a place like this in the middle of human territory?" Agares asked.

Agares remembered Madame Louise saying that the Great Empire was once a demon region.

Considering that information, it was only natural that there would be red soil in human territory.

He got off the horse-drawn carriage and stepped on the red soil. The red soil was not formed because it was soil, but because it was weathered rock with a high iron mineral content.

As far as the eye could see, Agares only saw dead trees and animal bones. When he tried to climb a higher hill, he finally saw something there.

"So, that’s the entrance to the S-level dungeon?" asked Agares.

Aoi woke up to Agares’ words. With a half-asleep face, Aoi peeked from behind and crawled onto Agares’ right shoulder.

There, she could clearly see a red-soiled plain with a damaged ecosystem. There was no one else here but her and Agares.

Aoi’s attention was drawn downward, to the entrance of the S-level dungeon behind the hill. The white fox immediately pointed downward and told Agares.

"That’s the dungeon."

"I know, Aoi."

"Stay alert, Aoi," Agares explained. Aoi cleared her throat in agreement.

Aoi could be the key to Agares’ safety while in the dungeon. Her ability to read minds allowed Agares to know the location of Erika and her Adventure Party team.

Slowly, he stepped down from their hill to arrive in front of the dungeon. When Agares was about to walk in, his steps stopped when a mysterious red panel appeared in front of his face.

[WARNING!]

[You are entering a dangerous area]

[Location: Dungeon]

[Level: S]

A system warning appeared in front of Agares, but he didn’t pay much attention to it. He stepped through the large cave entrance and walked down the downward-sloping cave passage.

Agares was lucky! There were many torches to help light the way, so the place didn’t feel dark.

"HUEK!"

"This place smells disgusting."

"Stay focused, Aoi," Agares orders.

"Let me know immediately if there’s anything ahead."

Aoi nods, keeping her eyes focused ahead while covering her nose with her hand, uncomfortable with the foul smell coming from the dungeon walls.

Agares draws his sword and prepares to fight any monsters that approach. Aoi responded when she heard a noise from ahead, similar to the sound of a monster babbling unclearly.

The man fell silent, then stepped forward slowly while picking up a torch from the wall.

He directed the torchlight forward and was shocked to see a skeletal wolf monster with purple eyes in front of him.

There wasn’t just one, but four. They were of medium size with a strong aura of darkness.

"Nyx."

[Is there anything I can help with, Master?]

"Please identify the monster in front of me."

[Starting scanning of monster through host’s eyes]

[Scanning complete]

[Wolf Voidbound Hound]

[Name: Wolf Voidbound Hound]

[Monster Level: 3]

[Affinity: Darkness]

[Description: The Wolf Voidbound Hound is characterized by its medium-sized wolf skeleton form with purple flames burning in its eyes. Dominant darkness element]

[Difficulty Level: Medium]

Previously, the last monster Agares fought was the Mountain Blood Centipede Monster. It was a level 3 monster.

Now, Agares had to face monsters of the same level, and there were quite a few of them—four in total.

They reflexively roared loudly and left their spots, not to run away, but to fight Agares.

Agares prepared himself, bringing out the dark energy from his body and flowing it into his sword.

"Hold on tight, Aoi!" Agares says firmly. Aoi nods.

Agares grips his sword tightly and swings it sideways and upward, following the sword technique he had learned.

All four monsters were hit by Agares’ attack, causing their HP bars to appear in Agares’ vision. They had around 550 HP, and the three monsters had similar HP.

The man jumped far back to avoid their siege. Surprising! The four wolves closed their mouths and shot purple fireballs forward, targeting Agares.

Agares responded by jumping and swinging his sword, destroying the purple fireballs with the power of his dark sword swing.

Success! Agares managed to destroy their purple fireballs. Now, they stood still in shock at Agares’ response.

"It seems that my level and abilities helped me stop their attack."

"Activate Skill!"

"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"

[Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave Activated]

[-150 Mana]

[Mana: 1,150/1,300] [-150]

Agares focused the power of his dark energy into the blade of his sword.

From Agares’ vision, he saw an additional movement for the first skill, the effect of the skill leveling up. Agares smiled.

"So that’s how it works."

The man swung his sword sideways and downward, forming a plus pattern that immediately struck the four monsters.

BLAST!

The explosion was quite strong, Agares held his body in place by sticking his sword into the ground. He glanced forward to confirm how effective his leveled-up skill attack was.

[+350dmg] [Critical ATK]

[Weakened 15s]

[Reduce ATK 30% per 12s]

[Reduce 10HP/sec for 7s]

Agares looked at the system panel; clearly, his attack hadn’t been enough to kill any of them. However, he was satisfied with his attack.

Against humans, he might have been able to win easily.

The total damage dealt is 420 damage. This was because there was a 10 HP/sec reduction for 7 seconds, and the weakened effect also made them vulnerable to follow-up attacks, as their DEF attribute was debuffed.

"Now, you will truly die!"

"Activate Skill!"

"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"

[Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave Activated]

[-150 Mana]

[Mana: 1000/1300] [-150]

With the first skill attack from Agares’ saber for the second time, Agares was confident he can defeat the four wolf monsters with ease.

BLAST!
