Chapter 83: Chapter 84 Combat Experiment
Jiang Shu gazed at the card deeply embedded in the wall, trying to comprehend the internal mechanism of the two terms.
Normally, a card manipulated did not possess the damaging properties of a "knife", therefore they couldn’t control Shadow Cutting; however, if it was a card spun out at high speed, it would be deemed capable of inflicting damage.
Only those capable of damage could trigger "Shadow Cutting".
Switching to reality, manipulating a card with intent was akin to controlling a card with silk thread in Magic, which meant, regardless of speed, it wouldn’t be considered as having the ability to inflict damage in the logic of Deception; but a spinning flying card, just like in reality, had lethal power, thus could trigger the Derivative Entry "Shadow Cutting".
However...
Jiang Shu glanced at the card deeply stuck in the wall, trying to retrieve it through his mind.
It was somewhat strenuous.
So he chose to duplicate one and then directly took the duplicate.
Not right.
Leaving such a poker card, even if just embedded in the wall, couldn’t ensure it would remain undetected; should someone notice it, it could still cause unnecessary trouble.
He spent some effort twisting the card embedded in the wall, only pulling it out smoothly after feeling it loosen a bit.
Jiang Shu glanced at it, the surface of the card still as smooth and new without any abrasion.
He picked up the dagger on the ground, the surface of which was severely worn, virtually a battle-worn version from Syria.
Such an old dagger carried by this guy must possess its own mysterious properties.
The card fluttered, effortlessly flicking open the clothes on the crocodile’s corpse, he carefully searched but didn’t find any other valuable items.
No Black Silver?
He frowned slightly, then stepped back two steps sideways, manipulating the card to pierce the crocodile’s corpse, blood and raw flesh splattered around, and after three or four stabs, he found a hidden compartment inside the body, just like the previous Disciple.
Opening the compartment, there was a small Black Box inside.
This should be the Black Silver.
Although he couldn’t confirm by opening it, anything so cautiously preserved in a Black Box was almost definitely Black Silver.
"You!" The man guarding the secret entrance on the ground heard the noise below and immediately rushed down, firing without hesitation upon seeing Jiang Shu and another.
"Dang dang dang—"
The right hand extended, palm opened, another card continuously replicated at his gesture, forming a wall of cards, whose special material easily blocked a barrage of bullets.
"Cough." Jiang Shu grunted, the pressure from the bullets applied on the card wall was also partly exerted on his psyche.
With a wave of his hand, a card sped past, its sharp edge slicing across the gunman’s neck, blood spraying profusely.
The people of Mechanical Disciple were not like ordinary street thugs.
No need to be lenient.
Red blood flowed along the ground, and soon the cards replicated themselves, covering the floor; Jiang Shu stepped on them, dragging Kirie’s chair and ascending the stairs step by step.
Pushing open the door, a dense barrage of bullets welcomed him, amidst the fiery glow of gun muzzles in his vision, black shadows carrying lethal intent surged towards him.
Outside in the factory there were about twenty people, each holding firearms, their faces fierce, roaring as they pulled their triggers.
"Da da da—"
"Ding ding dang dang—"
Card walls surrounded on all sides, blocking all bullets, three or four cards fluttered among the crowd, indiscriminately reaping lives.
"He is..."
"Run, he—ah!"
A scream echoed in the factory, but the Disciples’ attempt to flee was futile. The man dressed in a black suit with a white shirt merely watched indifferently as they were each caught, pierced, and sliced by Cards.
"Damned bastard!" In the crowd, a man gritted his teeth. The ones dying now were the "technicians" of the gang, whose worth far exceeded that of ordinary Disciples.
He extended his left hand towards Jiang Shu, flipping his wrist upward to reveal a dark gun barrel.
Jiang Shu saw his movement but still did not budge, showing no intention to evade. He simply reached towards his waist, drew the dagger from its sheath, and then let go, allowing the dagger to fall to the ground.
Then, he casually kicked the dagger, which leisurely slid and spun towards the man with the gun.
"Bang—" The gun barrel flashed with fiery sparks, firing a shell at Jiang Shu with a speed invisible to the naked eye. However, not even five meters from the barrel, the shell suddenly exploded, engulfing the unsuspecting man in flames.
"AAAAH!" The man with the gun screamed in agony.
The explosion’s flames and shrapnel assaulted the man at close range, his front instantly turning into a dark red shimmering with dense, silver scales.
Shrapnel was embedded deeply into his flesh, presenting a ghastly sight.
Jiang Shu walked over, dragging a chair behind him, and picked up the dagger from the ground.
As the dagger slid across the ground, he activated "Shadow Cutting". The dagger severed the shadow of the shell on the ground, causing the shell to explode so close to the opponent.
This method proved very effective. It was also the reason he had a long Mud Knife custom-made at the prop shop before. Laying horizontally in front of him on the ground, the Mud Knife could slide forward to block all bullets, creating a safe space amidst the barrage.
This was a more energy-efficient method of protection compared to a wall of cards and put less strain on his psyche.
It was a straightforward battle. Jiang Shu was experimenting with his own designs on the mechanical Disciples, comparing the energy consumption and efficiency of various techniques, trying to find a suitable method and to understand the internal logic of the Derivative Entries.
After all, the explanations of these Derivative Entries were too succinct.
Meanwhile, in Kirie’s world, the darkness was filled with human wails, gunfire, and explosions.
Although she was in the police station, she had not really seen much action before. The fear of the unknown made her body tremble slightly.
A pair of hands rested on her shoulders, steady and strong.
Then a voice, still calm, said, "It’s okay now."
Jiang Shu removed the black cloth from her eyes, then pointed to the numerous ammunitions and Ammonium oil explosives in front of them, "Is this enough to blow up the factory?"
"Ah? Oh." Kirie forced herself not to look at the mountain of corpses and the sea of blood nearby. She was grateful she had never confronted Jiang Shu directly. She started calculating the explosive power needed relative to the size of the factory.
In her Prosthetic Eye, numerous precise calculations were swiftly processed, soon yielding an answer.
"This amount of explosives is just enough to destroy the factory," said Kirie, revealing her calculations.
Jiang Shu nodded, "Since it’s all calculated, let’s detonate it."
"Detonate?" Kirie was still a bit confused.
"Yes, quickly, we need to do it before Wolf arrives," Jiang Shu continued, fixing his deep black gaze on Kirie, his eyes pressing down, "About what just happened, you didn’t see anything, you know nothing."
"Understood." Kirie’s heart tightened under his stare, and she inadvertently lowered her head, not daring to look at him.
In her heart, another thought emerged.
He finally showed his true colors!
I knew it, how could a Wizard be harmless all the time, how could he have such a gentle smile!
This deathly still gaze, that’s who he really is!
Though frightened, Kirie’s body shivered slightly, not sure if it was from the trembling of fear or the quivering of excitement.
This feeling strangely fascinated her.
Could she finally be seeing the real Jiang Shu?
