Chapter 303: Chapter 193: He Began to Talk About the Past
"Name?"
"Jiang Shu."
"Occupation?"
"Magician."
"Age?"
"Seventeen... Twenty-three." Jiang Shu glanced at the stern-faced, unfamiliar police officer sitting across from him and corrected himself.
"Between 7:10 and 7:30 p.m. on November 18th, you had an interaction with the deceased, Ms. Qiu Wanying, backstage in Studio 3. According to people present at the time, Ms. Qiu’s complexion seemed odd. What exactly did you say to her?" The police officer began to question Jiang Shu after recording the basic information.
"What did we talk about?" Jiang Shu thought for a moment. "Just chatted about our movie, we weren’t very close."
"Then why would people say she seemed very scared?" The police officer suddenly slammed his hand on the table, and his voice became stern, "Tell the truth."
"Because we were shooting a mystery film," said Jiang Shu, his expression still calm. "Didn’t you guys bother to check that in advance? She was the make-up artist for the leading lady, Li Yuntang, and had just done my makeup before going on stage. I’m also saddened by her death, but... why do you suspect me as the murderer? Shouldn’t I have been on stage at the time Qiu Wanying was shot?"
"This is merely assisting with the investigation." The officer’s tone momentarily faltered, the man in front of him had a strong psychological fortitude, and wasn’t succumbing to pressure. The officer could only say resentfully, "Anyway, I hope you will cooperate with the investigation."
"Of course, I will definitely cooperate," Jiang Shu replied, smiling and nodding his head.
"This bullet was found in Ms. Qiu Wanying’s jacket pocket." The officer took out an evidence bag containing the twisted bullet, "We are certain that Ms. Qiu did not have this bullet on her before entering the backstage."
"So what you’re implying is...?" Jiang Shu appeared hesitant, as if he hadn’t quite understood what the officer was saying.
"This bullet must have been obtained by her backstage, and it’s very likely related to her death," continued the officer. "She didn’t interact with many people backstage..."
"But I was also searched by your officers," Jiang Shu interrupted, "and it was two rounds of searches. If this bullet was mine, doesn’t that mean there’s something wrong with your officers’ search? Could it be... they are in league with me?"
In an instant, the question was thrown back to the officer, and the difficulty of answering was magnified unlimitedly by Jiang Shu’s deliberate words.
"I didn’t mean that," the officer swallowed hard. "I just want to know if Mr. Jiang Shu had seen this bullet backstage?"
"No," Jiang Shu said sincerely, smiling and showing his white teeth, "I’ve never seen this bullet before."
Sweat formed on the officer’s forehead, he started to wish there were surveillance in the backstage area.
But there wasn’t.
Many stars used that area backstage, and due to camera hacking incidents leading to many unpleasant situations, the TV station entirely guaranteed the privacy there. Even installing a temporary camera for an investigation was impossible, as no amount of clout was useful against the TV station’s executives.
Outside the interrogation room, in the observation room, Tang shook his head slowly, "We won’t get anything out of him, they’re not on the same level; I should have been the one interrogating."
"Do you still think he’s ’Smiley Face’?" Wolf retorted coldly, "But you have no direct evidence. Baseless suspicion is meaningless. You haven’t even been able to provide concrete evidence that Smiley Face exists, and you also got Mu Jin, the only informant, killed."
At the mention of this, Tang’s face didn’t change much, but what he was really thinking deep down, no one knew.
No one knew why a gunman appeared in that location. Tang and Wolf had already completed a hazard inspection of the entire block quite early on.
Moreover, Tang had people stationed at all the key points.
Yet the ’Wolf Face’ gunman appeared, and none of the officers noticed his arrival. He carried out a sniper shooting so close to the TV station building.
And even...
Fired the shots near Tang and Wolf.
It was a blatant provocation.
After completing the shooting, he vanished as if he had never been there, quickly escaping Tang’s arranged encirclement.
Such excellent invasion and hiding skills did not belong to any of the original four members of the Deception Group.
This was also something that perplexed Tang: why wait until now to use such a skilled assassin in the team?
"The matter with Mu Jin is my responsibility," Tang confronted, before telling Wolf, "We can release Mr. Jiang Shu now, continuing the interrogation is just a waste of time."
Wolf ignored Tang, walked up, and opened the door to the interrogation room. He addressed Jiang Shu inside, "Mr. Jiang, you’re free to go."
His tone was terse, all business.
He sure didn’t want to be speculated about maliciously.
"Alright, Police Chief Wolf," Jiang Shu stood up and followed an officer out of the interrogation room.
Standing at the door in the corridor, he looked towards Tang in the observation room and smiled. "Tomorrow is the premiere of my movie. Please do me the honor of attending, Police Chief Tang. I have prepared a special surprise for you."
