The Crown's Seduction -
Chapter 90: Nothing Comes for Free
Chapter 90: Nothing Comes for Free
Another morning came, and this time, even the faintest view of the sun was nowhere to be found. Despite this, the smell of damp trees made the air feel fresh and clean as Mineah walked her way toward the Corvus Palace’s throne hall.
Today, she would do her usual duties of attending the indoor court meetings with Nikolai and meeting with the rest of the Clans once more.
"Ah, I can’t wait for the Midnight Sun to come," Zaila murmured behind her. Mineah’s two shadow maidens were currently walking behind her with Dani beside her.
"True, only after that we can get out of the palace," Krisha commented. "Then again, Dani said that our Queen will have even more engagements once she was allowed outside."
Mineah hummed to herself in approval. If she recalled, Dani was coordinating closely with the royal court to organize her schedule well after the Midnight Sun Waiting.
Of course, she made sure that her maiden knew what exactly she had to arrange for her. She would just love to engage with all of the outreach and charity works outside the Capital City as soon as she was able.
"Your Majesty, are you sure you don’t need to do your usual meditation rituals?" Dani asked.
"Yes, Dani," Mineah said with a smile. "I can directly get the energy from my husband if I need to, so there’s no need for you all to worry."
"Huh... Before, I used to think that it’s unfortunate that Her Majesty was getting married to a vampire king," Zaila murmured. "But from the looks of it, that doesn’t seem to be the case."
"Yes, and it looks like you’re now looking at vampires in a different light these days," Krisha teased Zaila. "So tell us, how is your relationship with Lord Gregory now? How far did you go with him, Zaila?"
"Stop teasing me," Zaila quickly retorted. She then hummed as she stated, "But come to think of it... It’s better for our Queen to be in this kingdom when compared to Princess Xenia’s plight once she arrives in the Kingdom of Cordon. Do you really think she’ll do the trials to follow Cordon’s traditions?"
"The King of Cordon has the authority to not let Princess Xenia do it if he truly wants her to be his Queen anyway," Dani shrugged. "I heard that King Darius is an impetuous ruler, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’ll just do whatever he wants if it’s convenient for her."
"Hmm... Knowing my sister well, she’ll definitely do the trials," Mineah hummed in thought. "She’s someone who wants to prove her worth. She won’t just simply stay idle and let others trample over her and call her nothing if she didn’t have the King’s power."
She then sighed, "I can only hope that things work out well in her favor."
As they neared the east wing private room, Mineah’s face lit up at the sight of Nikolai waiting at her.
"The three of you can now leave," she murmured with a smile as she walked to approach Nikolai. Making her way to her husband, she flashed him her sweetest smile as she greeted him, "Good morning, Lai."
Seeing her sweet greeting, he smiled back at her and hummed, "How about you take it slowly while eating your breakfast?"
Mineah chuckled as she sat on her chair facing the view of the garden pond. Meanwhile, Nikolai sat beside her as he started brewing her tea. She couldn’t help but feel pampered at the act. He was doing his best to make her feel appreciated whenever they were together, and she couldn’t just ignore it.
However, the smile on her face faded when she recalled Seer Beirut’s letter along with the dagger that appeared before her mind’s eye. There was an obvious meaning to it, but she deftly shook her head, removing that unwanted sight from her head to focus on the now. No, she refused to believe that things would come to that.
"What is it?" Nikolai casually asked with furrowed brows as he stared at her.
"Let me just check on Nik for a while," Mineah remarked with a neutral tone. "Seer Beirut’s letter told us that a new Seer will ascend today at Ebodia Camp. I want to monitor the situation. I need to meet with the new Seer as soon as possible."
"Sure, Mine," Nikolai nodded. "I’m still preparing your tea anyway."
With a grateful smile, Mineah began to chant. Her eyes glowed as her connection with her pet materialized in her mind’s eye.
[Nik,] she called.
[Yes, Master? I’m already at Ebodia Camp,] her raven chortled. [I was about to inform you that I just got here, but I guess you missed me first.]
Mineah chuckled at her pet’s pride. It looked like her pet and husband were the same whenever it came to their amount of shamelessness and arrogance.
[Alright then, inform me as soon as you hear anything,] Mineah instructed. [Look for anything unusual, especially if it’s about the ascension of Ebodia’s new seer.]
[Understood, Master.]
With that, Mineah blinked as she cut off her connection with Nik.
"Come now and eat," Nikolai hummed as he served her the tea that he just brewed.
Smiling, he was about to grab the spoon before she stopped him. "Don’t feed me. I can do it myself," she said with a pout as she began eating. She then forked a slice of meat from the plate and gently shoved it into his mouth with a mischievous smile. "Here, let me return the favor."
She hummed at her triumph. This time, it was her turn to feed him. Hesitantly, Nikolai took in whatever she fed to him. The more she did it, however, the more he became comfortable with their current arrangement.
They were very much in the moment to the point that both of them ignored the eyes that noticed them from the opened door. They could stare at them in disbelief all they want. It wasn’t like they’ll stop despite their protest anyway.
After all, this was what Mineah wanted. This was a perfect picture of her and her husband showing their public displays of affection for each other.
"About the full moon, promise me you’ll only drink my blood and will not seek out Rosela," she began, her tone serious as she stated her conditions. "No ifs or buts, Lai... Zaila can get blood from me directly and store it in a bottle for you to drink if you’re afraid to suck on my skin directly."
He paused as he digested her words. Looking at her with parted lips, he stood there silently, making Mineah continue with her spiel.
"Now, if you’ll need more, then we can store more of my blood until the full moon arrives," she suggested. "I already thought of all the ways to accommodate your needs, including backup plans when the time comes. You don’t need to worry about me getting in danger should things get to that point."
Nikolai blinked, and Mineah felt his warm palm brush against her cheek. "I wonder... What did I ever do to deserve someone like you in my life, Mine." he lovingly hummed.
"I will do my best to be your greatest support, Lai," Mineah smiled. "But of course, nothing comes for free. The only thing that I want you to do in return is to love me, so-Mpph!"
She moaned at the sudden intensity, unable to finish her words as Nikolai suddenly sealed her lips with his. His emotions were hungry and ravishing, his movements deepening their connection as they kissed.
