Chapter 89: Never Run Out of Energy
Mineah was already on her bed when Nikolai suddenly talked to her through their bond. [I know you had a tiring day,] he inquired. [Are you perhaps about to sleep?]
[I was, but this is fine. I was still awake anyway, Lai,] Mineah chuckled as she moved to face the side where the open balcony was located. [By the way, I tasked Nik to go to Ebodia Camp to be my eyes there for a while. I want to know how things are going there.]
[Hmm... Now that Nik is gone, that also means that you won’t be able to see me through its eyes whenever you miss me,] Nikolai pointed out.
[But we always see each other during the morning to have breakfast together anyway,] she chuckled, finding her husband’s flirting fascinating.
[It’s almost a ritual of ours before attending court meetings. That’s good enough for now, right? But don’t worry, I’ll call Nik back whenever I want to see more of you. Maybe I’ll contact him now and have him go to you...] she added with a giggle.
She couldn’t help but blush hard at their conversation. It was a good thing that she and Nikolai weren’t doing this kind of talk face to face right now.
Nikolai chuckled. [Tell me once you’re feeling sleepy or weak,] he insisted. [I can let you rest when that’s the case.]
[I’m good, honest. I’ve actually never felt better] Mineah insisted back. [I mean, the mark is probably already taking effect on my body.]
She honestly felt way better than before now that she thought about it. Even a while ago, she had recharged herself quicker than she usually would. She would normally borrow energy from her Shadow Maidens every day or so, but recently, it felt like some of the energy within her wasn’t from Dani, Zaila, or Krisha.
Her eyes widened as she realized, [Did I just get energy from you?] She heard Nikolai’s chuckle from the bond, and she quickly burst out, [Oh no! I apologize. I didn’t intend to do that!]
She couldn’t believe it. No wonder then that she felt strong enough to read minds a while ago. Even now, she didn’t feel weak at all while talking to Nikolai telepathically.
[That’s alright, Mine. You can get energy from me whenever you want although,] Nikolai hummed in reassurance. [Honestly, it surprised me since I’d never heard of such a case before. Maybe it’s because we’re now bonded that you’re able to get energy from me without even touching me.]
Mineah frowned. She didn’t even know how she did that, but she definitely felt that familiar energy coming from Nikolai within her now.
’Is it related to my curse?’ she inwardly thought. Nothing was definite, after all. Even Seer Beirut’s last words didn’t guarantee that things were already set in stone. He clearly told her not to make any moves yet since he was unable to decipher his vision adequately. It also meant that she had to wait for the new Seer of Ebodia to ascend before she got any more definitive answers.
If she was not mistaken, the new Seer’s ascension was nearing. It was a good thing then that she sent Nik there so she could witness it happening firsthand. Mentally, Mineah took note to communicate this matter to Nik early tomorrow morning.
[Mine... What are you thinking,] Nikolai asked her.
[Oh yes, I’m sorry. I just recalled the ascension of Ebodia’s new Seer. Also, I apologize again for getting energy from you without asking first,] she confessed.
[I honestly didn’t even know how I did that. A while ago, I was replenishing my energy with my shadow maidens before meeting the royal family, and that was when I felt a strong wave of energy entering my reserves. I probably should’ve told you about that.]
[That’s alright, Mine,] he repeated with a soft chuckle. [In fact, how about you try recalling how you gathered your energy during that time? Perhaps you can do it again whenever you need to.]
Nodding, Mineah tried recalling the details of what she did a while ago. [Ah, I think I know now... While I was meditating, I...] She trailed off, the memory making her blush so hard that she was unable to continue her words.
[Did you maybe think of me while you were meditating?] Nikolai directly asked.
She didn’t want to say yes. It was embarrassing, and yet that was exactly what happened.
[Mine...]
[Yes,] she admitted. [I suddenly thought of you and the energy I felt back at Valcrez Island back when you gave me the energy to mark Nik.]
For some reason, her body was starting to crave Nikolai’s energy. It sounded so wrong, but she couldn’t deny it anymore.
[There’s no need to borrow energy from your shadow maidens then, Mine,] Nikolai quickly offered. [Just siphon the energy you need directly from me through the bond whenever you need to.]
[But won’t that harm you?] she worriedly asked.
[I’m immortal, Mine,] Nikolai scoffed with pride. [I will never run out of energy.]
Mineah chuckled at that. [Alright then,] she scoffed. [Just don’t complain later once I suck you dry of your energy.]
She was about to add more when she suddenly yawned. Her eyelids also felt heavier, her exhaustion finally catching up to her after all this time.
[You’re clearly exhausted if you’re yawning like that,] Nikolai softly hummed. [Go and rest. I’ll see you tomorrow, Mine. Sweet dreams.]
[Good night, Lai.] Mineah hummed as she closed her eyes with a smile on her face.

On his side of the palace, Nikolai remained wide awake as he stared up at the moon shining brightly in the sky.
"This Midnight Sun Waiting is really a pain in the ass," he sighed to himself. "This better be all worth it in the end..."
"Taro..."
At his call, Taro instantly appeared before him.
"The investigation on the siren attack is taking too long," Nikolai instructed with a stern face. "Intercede on it. I need to find out who’s responsible."
"I will, Your Majesty," Taro hummed with a bow.
Nikolai immediately dismissed him before he let out another sigh. He had already reached his limit of five days while waiting for the investigation on the siren attack to pass. Surely the Minister of Justice, Haman from the Rossi Clan, wouldn’t take offense if he made his own investigation.
Nikolai inwardly cursed just at the thought of the man in charge. How he would love to just remove those imbeciles from the positions they didn’t deserve. And yet, they were still part of the major Clans of Valcrez.
Unfortunately, to keep the harmonious relationship between the clans and prevent unnecessary clashes, he still had to bear with those idiots. At least, until he could finally get an excuse to kick them out.
