Chapter 399: Greatest Miracle
Chapter 399: Greatest Miracle
The seasons were transitioning yet again, and the sun was particularly hot that day as summer came to the land. This was the particular season that vampires hated the most though not all of them hated it, especially since some powerful vampires were fortunate enough to have the ability to withstand the scorching sun like her husband.
Mineah looked around as she absorbed the peace and quiet. It was the first time she had witnessed the palace this quiet. Not that there were always Valcrezians around, but today, she barely saw anyone walking around except for a few officials and most of the melds that could withstand the sun. Maybe it was because the sun that day was at its peak with how hot it was. Still, she loves basking in the sun’s rays, especially during that particular day.
"It’s particularly quiet today," she commented with a pout as she walked with Nikolai, their hands clasped together as they roamed the palace courtyard. Usually, servants would be everywhere, but she only saw three at most wandering about.
"It’s summer," Nikolai explained with a grin. "Unless it’s necessary, vampires simply hate walking under this kind of heat. Now come. Hold onto me."
Mineah curiously smiled as she did exactly that. "And where are we heading this time?"
Instead of replying, Nikolai suddenly pulled her closer. It looked like he was about to transform into his mist form, and Mineah could only wonder what her husband was up to at this time of day when it was already late noon.
"We’re going fishing," he replied with a grin.
Leaving it at that, Mineah simply waited until they suddenly found themselves transported into one of Valcrez’s smaller fishing fleets. She had a wide smile on her face as she looked around the boat they were in. She could hear a violin playing a relaxing melody in the background, and it matched well with the sound of the waves around them.
"You said you were craving seafood, so let’s catch some of them fresh for our meal later," Nikolai hummed as he gestured for her to sit on the chair near the rear of the deck.
Smiling, Mineah obliged and watched as her husband prepared a fishing rod for her. It was something new for them to do, she supposed. She had tried fishing before with her father and siblings, but this would be the first time she would do this kind of activity with Nikolai.
"I wonder how long it will take for me to catch a fish this time," Mineah absently commented as Nikolai sat beside her with his own rod.
"Don’t worry, Mine. I won’t starve you," Nikolai reassured her with a smile. "Our cook is already preparing some fresh seafood dishes right now. I just thought you would love to experience fishing with me while we wait."
Mineah clicked her tongue and snorted, "I thought we would be having our fresh meal from our own catch today."
"It’s not bad to have a backup plan in times like these," he confessed. "You see, I’m really not that good at activities like these, so I instructed my men in advance to go fishing at the other side of the fleet so we’ll have something fresh to eat if we fail to catch anything."
"Hmm? How come? My husband is good at everything!" Mineah teased. "Are you saying you lack patience? My father said that patience is the main power you need to exert in fishing, you know."
"Perhaps," Nikolai chuckled before simply pulling her into his embrace. "Anyway, the view of the sunset will be good from here. See?" he lovingly whispered as he pointed to the horizon.
"Indeed, it’s very beautiful," Mineah hummed.
"I feel like time is moving quickly whenever I’m with you," Nikolai muttered while kissing her head. "I love you so much, Mine. I can’t help but always be grateful that you came into my life."
Mineah giggled at his words and was about to say something when she suddenly felt her baby kicking inside her tummy. "Are you reacting to how sweet and cheesy your father is, my baby Alya?" she murmured with a small smile.
"Why? Is she kicking again?" Nikolai asked as he too gently caressed her tummy.
"Yes, she’s so energetic," Mineah mumbled before cupping Nikolai’s face. "You know, it’s a good thing that I didn’t defy my fate when our Seer foresaw me getting married to you. I don’t regret helping my elder sister Xenia run away from your intended marriage with her so that I can fulfill that. You fell into my hands as a result of it all."
She then followed up her words by kissing him on his lips. Nikolai’s face reddened, and she just loved seeing how her vampire husband could blush adorably like that. "Ah, I can’t wait to have a son just as cute as you, Lai," she candidly declared.
And now, it wasn’t only his face that was blushing. His ears were red, and Mineah chuckled before she felt Nikolai pull her in for a tight hug.
"Mine, be careful what you wish for because you might end up getting pregnant as soon as baby Alya is delivered," Nikolai whispered into her ear.
"It’s fine, Lai. I don’t really mind getting pregnant again and as many times as I can! The more offspring we have, the better," Mineah answered, still chuckling as her husband started suckling on her neck. "I want to see more little Nikolais running around and playing in our palace."
"And I can’t wait to see little Mineahs running around as well," Nikolai enthusiastically hummed back.
He then slightly pushed her away and stared deeply into her eyes. Mineah smiled at how her husband’s eyes were filled with so much love and joy. She bet her eyes had the same sparkle and shine as her husband’s had right now with how much her love and joy for him was overflowing as well.
A beat passed, and he caressed her cheek with his knuckles, with her lovingly nudging her cheek against it.
"You know, looking back, I have no regrets about all the decisions I made in my life specifically because they led me to meet you and have you as my lifetime partner, Mine," Nikolai whispered to her, his lips coming close to hers." Thank you for coming into my life, and I really can’t wait to have more babies with you and witness how our own family will grow together."
Their lips then met into a fiery kiss, and the next thing Mineah knew was the feeling of a comfortable mattress on her back. Her husband had obviously transported them into a more private cabin somewhere in the boat, but she didn’t care anymore as she dwelled on his warm kisses and writhed in his warm embrace. Truly, being with Nikolai, her husband and lifetime partner was fate’s greatest miracle to her.
