At Cordon Castle

"How was it?" Nikolai teased Darius who was currently busy making a wooden rocking chair inside his workshop. He was aware that his friend was fond of building things, but it was unfortunate that he was simply not good at it.

"Damn! I still can’t get it right," Darius helplessly muttered, the chair in front of him refusing to rock smoothly. "I want a rocking chair for Xenia that I made so she can sit there once our baby is born."

Nikolai chuckled, "Just have your best man in the field do it. Or you can just buy one..."

"But I want to make it myself," Darius grumbled with a pout. "I just wish Osman was here... I miss that man. He’s the best at building things and making structures."

"I’m sure you’ll find him soon," Nikolai reassured him. "The search is still on, right?"

Devon had wreaked havoc in all parts of the land, and Cordon lost one of its Great Admirals because of him. Great Admiral Osman was like a brother to his friend Darius, and Nikolai knew how his friend refused to stop their search even though everyone believed the man was already dead.

"Yes. I won’t stop looking for him," Darius firmly stated. "Still, I’m relieved that Ezekiel killed that bastard Devon, bringing justice to everyone especially after what that man did to Osman."

Indeed, the news had quickly spread like wildfire, and everyone rejoiced upon hearing about the demon king’s death.

"By the way, do you know what Ezekiel’s plan is now?" Darius curiously asked as he stood up from his position and sat on the chair opposite to his for a sip of tea. "Who will rule Helion? Also, want some fresh animal blood?"

Nikolai shook his head, and Darius quickly followed up in disbelief, "You’re not drinking any fresh blood too?"

"Drinking Mineah’s blood every full moon is sufficient enough to sustain me," Nikolai explained. "Ezekiel let the Elders who survived decide who would rule Helion. The Queen Mother of Helion is still alive anyway and she’s now freed from Devon. Also, I’m not even craving fresh animal blood at all except during a full moon. It’s probably her divine blood working wonders on my appetite, making it so that I can enjoy human food more."

Honestly, he loved his taste right now, enabling him to share a hearty meal with his wife and enjoy it together with her.

"Oh, that’s good then," Darius said with a wide grin. "Having a wife with active divine powers and blood is truly a blessing, right?"

"Don’t you have the same blessing?" Nikolai teased back. "Also, my wife is more than a blessing to me."

"Of course! Like you, my wife is more than a blessing," Darius responded. "She’s my life!"

Nikolai chuckled and was about to fire back when the door suddenly slammed open.

"Your Majesty! Queen Xenia is currently in labor," a maidservant panted out. "It is time!"

Nikolai raised a brow at that. He had left his wife with Xenia so he was sure that the sisters were together, and he was about to tell Darius not to worry since his wife was with Xenia, but Darius ran out in a flash before he could even say anything.

Quickly following his friend, they promptly ended up in the room where Xenia and Mineah currently were. The royal physicians were already there, but Mineah wanted to stay and help out so Nikolai simply watched from the sidelines.

Watching the birth take place, he couldn’t help but gulp while watching Xenia cry out in pain.

"Push!!! Just a bit more Your Majesty. You can do it!"

"I’m already pushing hard!!!" Xenia burst.

"A little more, my love," Darius comforted her as he held onto his wife’s hand and rained kisses on her face. "You can do it!"

It was the first time Nikolai watched a live birth like this. It seemed very painful.

"Damn you! It’s your fault!" Xenia cursed. "You should have been the one to experience labor and delivery!!!"

Nikolai pressed his lips as he tried his best to control his laughter. He wondered if Mineah would curse him if she too came to experience the same thing during pregnancy. He wouldn’t mind those curses at all knowing it was all empty words anyway.

Time passed, then Nikolai heard the loud cry of a baby.

"It’s a baby boy!!!"

Darius quickly held the baby boy in his arms, and Nikolai approached him. "Congratulations! What an adorable child," he sincerely stated as the baby’s small hands gripped Darius’s pinky finger.

"Welcome to the world, my baby Arden!" Darius hummed as he gently kissed the baby.

"Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!"

But then, all of them were startled when Xenia wailed.

"There’s one more!" Darius excitedly hummed, and without so much as a warning, handed the newlyborn baby boy to Nikolai.

"Uhm," Nikolai mumbled as he tried his best to hold the small baby in his arms.

"Isn’t he so adorable?" Mineah commented who was now standing beside him with a wide smile on her face. "Let me clean him up first."

Nikolai then simply watched as his wife began looking like a professional in handling a baby. "It suits you," he adoringly stated.

Mineah chuckled as she then asked one of the healers to clean the baby. "I only know how to hold them," she admitted. "I honestly didn’t know what to do next, so let us let the experts do their work from here."

"Oh look how beautiful my baby Dinara is!!!" Darius burst out as he now held a baby girl in his arms.

"Right, she looks exactly like my big sister Xenia!" Mineah smiled. "Oh, how adorable!!!"

Relegated back to the sidelines, Nikolai nodded in agreement as his eyes focused on her wife looking so radiant and happy right at this moment.

"I’m sure the one inside you right now will be as pretty as you too, sister-in-law. Or handsome like Nikolai if it’s a boy," Darius said with a grin. "Or you can be lucky enough to have twins like us, although I only smell one scent, so it’s not a twin."

Nikolai blinked at his friend’s words, "What are you saying? My wife is pregnant?"

"She is, dummy!" Darius scoffed. "I caught that foreign scent in her the moment I entered the room!"

"I’m not a dog like you, so how can I smell a scent as sharply as you?" Nikolai defended with a frown, but that frown quickly disappeared as he turned to his wife whom he quickly swept off her feet as he rejoiced. "We’re going to have a baby, Mine!!!"
