Chapter 384: Peace and Order

Rania closed her eyes as she heard the hair-stranding screams from the execution area. His son, Nikolai, had just played the vision detailing Sage and her son Ahmed’s crimes for all the Valcrezians to witness, and understandably, the people were mad. They wanted a public execution for those who committed crimes not just against monarchs, but also for the innocent lives that died and suffered because of their hideous plans for their greed for power.

She turned and looked at her son who was currently seated beside his wife. The two of them were holding hands as they watched the gruesome death happening before them. Rania inwardly sighed despite it all. She just felt at ease seeing her son having a powerful woman beside him. He proved that he chose correctly the moment he accepted Mineah as his other half, and right now, she couldn’t picture any woman standing next to his son other than her.

"Look at you... I can sense how proud you are right now," Alexa whispered into her ear. "Wouldn’t you agree that they’re untouchable right now? I’m sure that after this incident, no one would dare try to harm them."

"We can only pray to that, Alexa," Rania murmured. "Still, I’m hoping that this will be the last time we experience this kind of execution during Nikolai’s reign."

"I’m sure it will be..."

Silently agreeing to Alexa’s words, Rania resigned herself to keep watching the execution. After this, Nikolai then proceeded to appoint replacement leaders for the two clans since not all of the Wagner and Rossi clans were proven guilty of colluding with their leaders. A few remained innocent, and some even reached out to Nikolai’s side to help and report any suspicious activities happening inside their territories.

Still, it was sad to see their kingdom losing other powerful exordiums like Sage and Eva through execution. It couldn’t be helped since what they did was too much to forgive. As such, they must serve as an example so that others wouldn’t commit the same crimes they did.

"The Wagner Clan will be led by Cassen Wagner," Nikolai announced. "Not only is she the next in line as an Exordium’s offspring, but I deem her worthy to be the new head of the Wagner Clan."

"Lady Cassen, please come forward and formally receive the edict of our King," Abel called out.

Rania watched as her son then promptly appointed the hybrid daughter of the deceased Exordium Silas from his werewolf wife Nerissa. Cassen had remained neutral despite being under Sage’s rule, and she was sent to another kingdom by the woman for some random mission until everything came to light. In truth, they simply wanted Cassen out of their way, and it was only fortunate that they had kept her alive after all this time. It also turned out that they were only keeping her alive to serve as their backup plan as one of their scapegoats.

As soon as Cassen received the King’s edict regarding her new post, Nikolai called for Teresa to appoint her as the new head of the Rossi Clan.

"This Teresa... I’ve seen how well she’s been doing as a part of the Ministry of Justice," Alexa whispered to Rania. "She and the new Minister... Lady Laura... They seem to get along very well."

Rania nodded in agreement. She had heard of how the Ministry of Justice had drastically improved under the new Minister’s supervision.

"It’s nice that they don’t mind how Minister Laura is from Ebodia..." Alexa added, to which Rania’s lips then turned up as her gaze focused on Fritz. Following her gaze, Alexa followed up, "You’re not thinking of pairing those two, are you?"

"Oh, my dear sister-in-law... That’s exactly what I am thinking right now," Rania subtly schemed. "We’re both aware that some officials are still against Lady Laura since they still think she’s an outsider. The only solution for that is to tie her to one of our kind. I heard she and Fritz are often seen together, so..."

"But we both know how Fritz still hasn’t moved on from your twin Vania," Alexa pointed out with a snort.

Rania let out a sigh. That was true, but still... "Sometimes, it’s not actually time that heals the wound of a broken heart, Alexa... Sometimes, it’s finding another love in their life that will let that happen..."

There was a terse silence as the rest of the proceedings continued. Silently watching, Rania simply raised a brow as the official announcements were made.

"I will entrust the two of you to lead each of your respective clans," Nikolai announced as he signaled for the two women to rise. "I am hoping that you two will cooperate well to ensure the peace and order in our kingdom."

Rania’s eyes darted to Queen Mineah as she whispered, "Those two can finally focus on more important things."

"That’s true. Though, who knows?" Alexa wondered with a giggle. "We might hear some good news soon about us becoming grandmothers."

Rania’s smile widened at the thought of such news. Just imagining it happening was already making her heart swell with joy. She had never hoped for anything except to see her children, Nikolai and Ezme, build their own family and live a happy peaceful life.

After all the announcements were made, the event soon ended, and everyone went back to their respective duties for the day. As for Rania, she went for a walk with her son and daughter-in-law back to Corvus Palace, which was when they heard Ezme’s high-pitched tone from behind.

Everyone turned to her, but Nikolai quickly said, "Mother, you take care of her. Mineah and I have something important to do."

Before anyone could say anything, her son had already disappeared with his wife. With nothing to do, Rania turned to Alexa, but the latter was also nowhere to be found. It turned out that everyone had somehow disappeared on them.

"Why did no one tell me what happened here?!" Ezme scandalously yelled. "I can’t believe all of you left me out on this! No news reached me about all of this, even about my brother’s supposed death and resurrection and -"

Rania raised her hand, signaling for Ezme to stop. Looking at her frowning daughter, she smiled and lovingly hugged her and said, "How about you calm down first and have some tea with me?"

Her daughter had a pout as she mumbled, "You have a lot of explaining to do, Mother. I can’t believe I missed so much!"

Rania chuckled. "Come now. What’s important is that everything is fine and settled now," she said. "Your brother is well and healthy as well..."

"Yes, I saw him running away from me so fast!" Ezme complained.
