Chapter 383: Grow Fonder

Chapter 383: Grow Fonder

"This can’t be! This can’t be happening!"

Ahmed barked out his disbelief as he tried his best to get out from the chains restraining his movements. Every time he moved, he would be electrocuted, feeling pain all over again. He knew he was in the dungeons, and he was aware that all of the members of his coven were inside in their respective prisons as well except for those who rattled them out.

Even now, he still couldn’t believe how he fell into Nikolai’s trap. And that woman! He had kept his real intentions hidden for so many years. He did his best to control his emotions and greed until he believed that his plans were already perfect enough to put into motion! And yet...

He gritted his teeth in anger. "That woman!"

They all played him like a fool, especially the Queen when he thought that he was the one playing her well. He was well aware of her ability to read minds thanks to that warlock Nimue, and he made sure that he was well protected from mind readers like her. However, he had overlooked how Nikolai had managed to use Raul against him! That damn magical pearl! How could he miss it?

He was still busy stewing in her thoughts when he felt Nikolai’s familiar presence before him. Hissing, he slowly raised his head.

"You will face the same fate as Haman," Nikolai taunted with a smirk. "I would love to kill you with my own hands, but my wife said that someone like you doesn’t even deserve to be touched by my precious hands."

Ahmed grunted as he hissed, "Do you really think it will end with you ending my life? Soon, another person will emerge to get that throne."

"Hmm... And like how things turned out now, I will simply bring them all down, Ahmed," Nikolai stated. "I don’t have plans to sit on the throne for too long, Ahmed. I’m willing to give way to anyone of our people that I see fit for the throne. But you and Haman chose to do things the wrong way, even involving innocent lives just to achieve your own greed." Still frowning, he added, "The biggest mistake you committed to me is trying to covet my wife with your dirty eyes."

And with that, Ahmed’s eyes bled as something happened, followed by his painful screams.

"You! Stop!" Ahmed cried out in pain. "What are you doing!!!!"

Instead of replying, Nikolai simply turned around and left the man screaming in pain as both of his eyes burst.

Back to Nikolai, he let out a sigh the moment he was away from the man. He had been controlling himself for far too long not to destroy Ahmed’s eyes. He would be executed tomorrow, but he didn’t want those eyes looking at his wife anymore. How dare that man!

Making his way outside, he saw Abel waiting for him with his arms crossed.

"Was that even necessary?" Abel murmured as he shook his head. "He’s a dead man walking anyway."

Nikolai had a dim expression as he exclaimed, "I don’t want his lustful eyes on my wife even in his last moments!"

Abel shrugged at his response. He could relate to Nikolai. He would probably do the same to anyone whose eyes would lust over his wife.

"How is Raul’s condition anyway?" Nikolai asked, changing the topic.

"He’s recuperating well," Abel informed him. "He’s been asking for you. He has a lot of questions."

Nikolai let out a sigh. It was only natural for his brother to feel confused since some of his memories were still jumbled because of the poison Ahmed fed him. "I will meet with him soon. For now, his recovery is what matters most," he replied. "He’ll only be more confused if I explain everything right now. Tell him that I’ll explain things once all the poison in his system has been completely removed."

Abel nodded at him. "Very well."

"Also, I will be away for some time," Nikolai suddenly opened up.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Abel asked, almost halfway complaining. "You just came back from being dead."

Nikolai chuckled at his friend’s tone. "Yes, I just came back to my wife as well. And now that everything is settled, I believe that our officials wouldn’t mind if their king went on a vacation to fulfill their wishes of producing an heir," he stated with a soft chuckle. "It’s in the prophecy anyway, so I’m simply trying my best to fulfill them. Besides, after everything that my wife and I had gone through, don’t you think we both deserve some time alone with each other?"

"But you can always do that by sharing the same bedroom with her, Your Majesty," Abel complained with a frown. "I’m also a married man, and until now, I can’t even have some proper alone time with my wife with how much work needs still to be done"

Grinning, Nikolai patted Abel’s shoulder. "Hang in there for a little while, my friend," he chuckled. "I won’t take too long. Five days will do."

Abel could only shrug in annoyance. It wasn’t like he had a choice anyway.

"But what you’re doing right now is actually working. Sooner or later, I’m sure you’ll be rewarded by your wife," Nikolai remarked. "For now, let her miss you more..."

He couldn’t help but give Abel some heads up based on how his dear wife saw from accidentally reading Dani’s thoughts. Supposedly, Abel and Dani were having this tug of war game in their marriage life, and Mineah was having fun reading the couple’s thoughts. It was unlike her to invade people’s privacy like this, but he supposed there was no harm in it anyway.

In addition, she was also becoming clingier to and a bit moodier to him at times, especially whenever they would meet inside her dreams before. But since he was back in the flesh, they could do everything they wanted together in person.

"What do you mean it’s working?" Abel questioned in horror. "Are you spying on my married life?"

Nikolai chuckled. Until now, no one knew about his wife’s abilities to read minds and compel people, and he had no intentions of letting his friend know about it either.

He simply shrugged as he plainly answered, "Well, I heard from my wife that Dani has been missing you a lot lately. I guess absence makes the heart really grow fonder, huh."

Abel blinked at him as he burst out, "For real?!"
