Chapter 303: I’ll Come Back to You

Chapter 303: I’ll Come Back to You

Today was the happiest day of Dahlia’s life. Her eyes were shining as she stared at the document she and Zoran had just signed with their blood. A seal was then applied to the document by their King, Queen, and Minister Laura, indicating that she was now legally married to Zoran in the eyes of Valcrezian law and the heavens.

"You may now kiss the bride."

Dahlia furiously blushed as Laura humorously finalized her wedding. It wouldn’t be the first time that she and Zoran kissed, but it was definitely the first time that they would do so in front of other people keenly staring at them. She could already hear how they cheered for them, and they even clapped their hands as soon as she felt Zoran’s arm wrap around her waist as he pulled her closer to him.

"We shouldn’t disappoint them, my wife," Zoran hummed with a devious smile.

From there, Dahlia felt his lips against hers, and she subconsciously closed her eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She answered his passionate kiss with an eager one, and she just knew that there was nothing else in this world that mattered right now than her love for the man in front of her.

"I love you so much, my wife," Zoran whispered on her lips.

Dahlia slowly opened her eyes, meeting his intense gaze as she murmured back, "And I love you too, my dear husband."

Composing herself, Dahlia took a small breath as she and Zoran moved to face the few guests they had with a wide and bright smile. They were all filled with so much joy, and they both were grateful to everyone who had come to witness their simple yet very memorable union.

Still, that beautiful and beaming smile on Dahlia’s face paled as soon as she heard lively music being played in the background. She had clearly instructed for the event to not have any music because that was one of the things she remembered from Seer Tara’s vision... Lively music had been playing in the background before the tragedy of Zoran dying happened. The seer clearly said that there seemed to be an event going on, and it just so happened that it was their wedding, it would seem...

’No! It can’t be... Oh, please, dear Almighty...’ Dahlia silently prayed as her body started trembling. ’Not tonight... It can’t be tonight!’

Her heart hammered against her chest as she felt shivers running down her spine. The thought of possibly losing Zoran tonight was too much for her to bear, and there was no telling what would happen next.

"The prodigal friend has returned, and it’s his wedding day, so I thought to add some color and fun on his wedding day despite how cold the weather is tonight. So surprise!" Lord Fritz announced as the music continued playing. "Why don’t we all gather outside and watch the lanterns flying in the sky as we celebrate this special night with our newlyweds?!

Dahlia’s eyes widened, and she almost lost her balance as her knees wobbled and weakened. Noticing her distress, Zoran quickly held onto her just before she could fall on the ground.

"This is..."

Dahlia’s voice trembled. She knew Lord Fritz, and she was good friends with him from way before. Zoran was also close with him and Chancellor Abel, and during those times, Zoran, along with Nikolai, Fritz, and Abel were always hanging out together. It was only when she died that their friendship took a turn...

She had personally invited Lord Fritz and Chancellor Abel tonight to witness and be a part of this solemn wedding of hers with Zoran. She had clearly mentioned to him that she wanted a simple and private wedding...

Her face then paled further as she remembered something. She had heard that Lord Fritz was always away from the palace, so he probably wasn’t aware of the vision that they were avoiding. Or maybe he did, but knew nothing about the exact details in it?

"Dahlia, are you alright?" Zoran whispered. "Your hands are cold."

She shook her head as she did her best to compose herself. Was she really just overreacting? She could only hope that was the case.

Looking around her, she tried to see everyone’s reactions. She first looked at their Queen, and judging their Queen’s expression, it was more than enough for her to feel even more worried.

"Is that an emerald dress she’s wearing?" Dahlia weakly muttered.

Her eyes then quickly darted back to Lord Fritz who was currently fanning himself with a wide smile widely. Chancellor Abel was smiling behind him as well, but those smiles quickly faded when they probably noticed how scared she was at the moment.

"The music!" she hysterically cried out, all eyes on her as she burst out. "Why is there music playing?!"

"Dahlia, calm down..." Queen Mineah soothed as she tried to calm her. She then looked at Dani and quickly instructed, "Cast a protective spell right now and check for anyone that has dark energy within our vicinity!"

Dahlia’s tears started running down her cheeks as she looked at Zoran and weakly whispered, "The vision... It may happen now. That lively music an-"

But before she could continue, Dahlia’s words were cut short as she felt a sudden sharp pain inside her heart. She gasped as she tried to breathe.

"Dahlia, what’s wrong?"

A loud maniacal laughter reverberated inside the pavilion. Dahlia turned, and she saw her mother’s bloodshot eyes, a shadow of a snake crawling on her back before appearing on her mother’s side. Her orbs were slowly turning dark, and she knew immediately what was happening.

"Devon..."

Zoran’s whispers confirmed her thoughts. Clutching her closely, Dahlia could feel how protective and possessive Zoran was of her as he held her in his arms.

"We can’t harm her, or Dahlia’s mother will die..." Queen Mineah said from the sidelines.

Dahlia didn’t know what was going on anymore. She could feel her body weakening by the second, and there was no telling what was going to happen next.

"Do you truly think that I would allow your woman under my Tree of Life without getting a hold of the life it gave to her?" Dahlia’s mother, who was currently under Devon’s spell, taunted. "I gave you a lot of chances, Zoran, but you still disobeyed me behind my back. You really don’t care about your life, so I will take this woman instead."

Thinking quickly, Zoran hastily chanted a protective spell around Dahlia. There was only one way for Devon to harm her, and that was by instilling dark energy within her while her body was still under the Tree of Life. Devon was a powerful demon, so it wouldn’t be a surprise that Zoran didn’t manage to detect this in Dahlia’s body.

"Don’t fear, Dahlia. Stay strong, and think of only positive things and good memories," Zoran instructed her as he finished the spell. "Devon will feed on the fear inside your body, and that is how his dark energy within you will grow."

Dahlia simply nodded. Again, she didn’t know what was happening, but based on what she knew, it seemed as if Devon’s hold on her body was still weak because the dark energy within her failed to grow. That was probably because she only had pure thoughts in her heart. There was no evil inside her that could feed Devon’s dark energy. Still, Zoran wouldn’t take that risk now that he knew of it. He would do everything he could to take that dark energy out of her body.

Meanwhile, Zoran could feel how Devon was starting to destroy him even while he was battling to prioritize Dahlia’s safety. He already felt weak, and he knew it was only a matter of time until he fell against him.

"Stop this! you will die!" Dahlia cried out as he started coughing blood. However, there was no stopping now, not while he continued to extract the dark energy inside Dahlia’s body to transfer it all to his own body.

He smiled and hoarsely stammered, "Relax, Dahlia. I might really die if you feed more fear into Devon’s dark energy inside of you!"

"That’s easy for you to say!" Dahlia shouted as she gasped for air. "How can I calm down while seeing you like that!"

"Close your eyes, my wife. Think of our future together," Zoran instructed, ignoring her protests as he concentrated. "Remember, I won’t die. I’ll come back to you. King Nikolai will save me. Look at them..."

True enough, Nikolai, who was already beside him, nodded at him. The King held Zoran’s arm, giving him all the energy that he needed to completely take the dark energy inside Dahlia’s body even while Devon was trying to take his life. King Nikolai was blocking Devon’s assault, and he could only thank his old friend for doing so.

Meanwhile, the mages under the Queen were trying their best to subdue Devon’s power over Dahlia’s mother together with Queen Mineah herself. It wasn’t doing much, but they were making good progress.

"Hurry up, Zoran. I won’t be able to hold back Devon’s power over you for too long," Nikolai remarked with gritted teeth as he forced himself to give his all to blocking Devon’s power. "His power over your life is too strong."
