Chapter 255: Their Rescue
Chapter 255: Their Rescue
Mineah didn’t know what was happening, but she was pretty sure that everything was still going according to plan. After all, the fact that she had to wear the same dress as her fellow ladies already paid off, and they were all together as they were taken to who knows where in some nondescript carriage.
"Relax," she told them, making sure to keep her voice as low as possible. "We’re getting out of this sooner or later."
"Are you sure, Your Majesty?" Teressa worriedly whispered back. "We’re all bound, and I can’t seem to be able to contact anyone."
"I’m sure," Mineah firmly nodded.
Well, she said that, but she honestly didn’t have a clue how they were going to get out without casualties. Surprisingly, she couldn’t contact Nikolai, which meant that this was an organized job. It smelled of Haman’s dirty work already, and she could only assume that her husband had something in mind to rescue them. If not, then she could always take matters into her own hands if need be.
"Let me do all the talking," Mineah told her companions. "I’m sure I’m the only one they want."
"Are you sure, Your Majesty?" Niran worriedly asked.
"Trust me on this," Mineah answered back with certainty.
Almost an hour passed, and only then did the carriage stop and the same men that abducted them threw them into a safe house of some kind. There, they were taken into a holding room of some sort, and her hunch was immediately confirmed as Haman greeted her with the biggest smug grin she had ever seen being worn by a person.
"Welcome, Queen Mineah," Haman maliciously greeted. "I hope the accommodations I prepared for you weren’t... substandard."
"You really did all of this just so you can have me then," Mineah scoffed despite the ties tying her hands to her back. "And you even made sure to stop us from contacting anyone."
"I simply covered my bases," Haman chuckled back, his arms splayed wide as he fearlessly approached her. "Granted, your hangers-on weren’t part of the plan, but I’ll have someone dispose of them shortly."
Mineah narrowed her eyes. She could feel the fear coming from companions behind her, but she’d never let that happen. Not if she could help it.
"It’s not going to be this easy, you know," she pointed out.
"Oh, but it already happened, no?" Haman laughed as he raised his hand to cup her cheeks, his nostrils flaring as he inhaled her scent. "There’s nobody here to stop me. I’ll be free to have you and your blood all to myself, and you or your precious king would not be able to stop me- NGHH!"
Mineah blinked as it all happened so quickly. One moment, she almost thought of the creep’s hand on her cheek, but then Haman was now suddenly flying right toward the nearest wall.
"Your Majesty!"
Behind her, her companions all let out shouts of relief at the man who came to their rescue.
Nikolai was glaring at Haman with the fury of a thousand suns, his fist dripping with the man’s blood as he looked like he wanted to pummel the man for even touching her if not for her also needing his attention. As for Mineah herself, she couldn’t help but chuckle as her trust in her husband was rewarded.
"You know, I almost thought I had to do everything myself," Mineah hummed as she let herself lean on her husband.
"I’m sorry for not coming sooner, Mine," Nikolai apologetically murmured as he undid her bindings and hugged her tight. "It was important that we had witness against Haman. I already knew this was going to happen. I just needed bait to draw him out."
Mineah rolled her eyes even as she embraced him. "You could’ve told me that, you know."
"It was important to keep things under a need-to-know basis only," Nikolai explained. "But enough about that. I can explain things later. For now, let me wrap things up from here."
From there, Mineah simply watched as Nikolai and his men practically cleaned up the entire safe house of Haman and his men. They spared no one, and her group of four ladies simply watched as they were all put into custody and thrown into the same carriage that they used to abduct them. Some were outright killed for resisting, but they were of no consequence. After all, only Haman was important enough to have a public trial done for them.
"This is a complete rout, huh," Niran commented beside Mineah. "The one that cast that spell wasn’t with the people here, but that person will hopefully turn up sooner or later."
Mineah sighed at that. They got Haman, but it would seem that the warlock got away. Still, without the former payrolling the latter, it would hopefully make things easier for them. Or even better, maybe they’ll get a lead out of Haman to catch that slippery warlock.
"We’ll take what we can get," Mineah lightly smirked. "This is already worth us getting abducted."
"We’ll have to go back to the capital after this though, I’m sure," Niran sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "The trial will probably need all of us to be present, what with all of us being witnesses."
"Exactly," Mineah shrugged as she shook her head. "It’ll be a pain, but at least this will be the end of Haman and his apparent criminal empire."
It would seem that this would be the abrupt end of their visit to Sar. Mineah could only hope that her brief companions would-
"We’ll be there," Teressa firmly declared. "I refuse to let this slide by so easily."
"Same here," Jane added, with Diane simply nodding in clear anger.
Mineah blinked. Before she could ask them, it would seem that they already come to a decision.
"Excellent," Nikolai hummed just as he finished directing his men. "We’ll be making our way back to the capital this instant."
"Guess, we’ll just have to reschedule the visitations again," Niran sighed. "And I just managed to make it all work too."
Mineah chuckled at her friend’s expense as they all made their way back to the capital. With Haman being a high-ranking person in the court, his trial would need all the evidence they could get to make the case stick. Not that it would matter. His fate was practically sealed with how much things went against him anyway.
