Chapter 252: Devon’s Plans

At Helion Kingdom

Zoran was currently inside his laboratory creating potions requested by Devon when Sibil suddenly entered.

"Come with me," Sibil informed him. "Direct orders from King Devon."

Called to duty, Zoran put down what he was doing and moved to follow Sibil towards the King’s throne.

"Finally, we’ve got some action going outside," Sibil casually hissed as they made their way through the hallways. "Staring at the insides of this palace and just babysitting you is getting annoying."

"Why are you even being vocal about it?" Zoran questioned.

"Well, I want you to know that King Devon no longer trusts you like before, so I have to tag along and tail you often," Sibil remarked with a frown.

Zoran narrowed his eyes at his escort. He couldn’t read him at all. He didn’t know what the man was playing at but he was sure that Sibil wasn’t someone he could trust.

"You’re a powerful warlock, Zoran... Where did you get those powers?" Sibil asked.

He simply shrugged at the question. He wasn’t a warlock, but everyone confused him as one. From what he recalled, it all happened when he lost consciousness on the day when the sky cried blood. He had passed out while creating potions thirty-one years ago, he being fourteen at the time. Everyone just assumed that he was enacting a ritual at the time to summon demons and get more power.

However, they were all wrong. He was in fact a sorcerer born with natural magical prowess. But since they didn’t bother asking him, Zoran didn’t bother correcting them. As such, in time, he became well known as a powerful warlock feared by many. That was also the reason why Devon couldn’t manipulate him as easily despite having a life-and-death contract with the demon. Devon was unable to control him, and all he could do was give him pain and take his life away from him whenever he wanted.

Meanwhile, Sibil was a warlock who got his power by selling himself to a devil named Mammon. Not that he cared about such knowledge. It was just a known fact at this point.

Back to the question, Zoran didn’t respond to Sibil, making the man hiss in annoyance. "A man of few words," the latter scoffed. "You really are boring."

Before long, they reached their destination, and Zoran entered the throne room in silence before quickly bending his knee to the man in front of him.

"Master," both he and Sibil greeted in chorus.

"About time you two showed up," Devon scoffed as he addressed them. "Sibil, I want you to lead an attack at Nimrod right now. Spare no one..." he instructed before his gaze turned to Zoran. With a devious grin, he stated, "As for you... Congratulations, Zoran. You’re going back home..."

Zoran frowned. Surely, there was more to this. With his head still on the ground, he asked, "What do you mean, Master?"

"Raise your head and look at me, you two..." Devon commanded, to which the two quickly followed.

Devon’s gaze then fixated on Zoran as he reiterated, "Don’t you miss home? I’m telling you to go back home to Valcrez, Zoran. Didn’t you offer yourself to me before to handle Valcrez? Now is your chance. I can’t rely on our spies inside Valcrez anymore, so I’ll send you instead. You’re good friends with Nikolai, so I’m sure he’ll accept you back."

"But I thought I needed to focus on the dragon king and Prince Ezekiel...." he hesitantly stated. Something was off. This was too sudden in terms of changing plans.

"There’s no need to exert effort when the prey will come to us eventually," Devon stated. "I will call for you soon once Ezekiel is already in our hands. In the meantime, I want you inside Valcrez. Be grateful that I’m extending my generosity to you, Zoran. I’m even giving you time to spend with your Dahlia..."

Zoran clenched his jaw at the obvious insinuation. He was aware that sooner or later, Devon would find out that Dahlia was back in Valcrez already. He just didn’t think that he’d know this soon.

"She came back home then," Zoran naively stated.

Devon stared at him, and he didn’t bat an eye as he met his intense gaze. He had told Devon that he let Dahlia go as soon as he confirmed that she was already fit and in good health. He then told the demon that he no longer knew about her whereabouts if only to try and throw him off...

"She’s inside the palace under Nikolai’s protection, so I’m sure he’ll accept you back," Devon casually pointed out. "He probably already found out about all the big sacrifices you made for Dahlia, so I’m sure he’ll let you in."

"Nikolai may accept me, but he won’t trust me," he pointed out.

"That might be true, but who cares?" Devon hummed. "What matters is that you get inside his palace..."

Zoran gulped at what was being asked of him. He didn’t dare ask for the demon’s plan, knowing it would only be futile to do so. Devon would only give out instructions, but never disclose what his real plan was to anyone.

"And don’t even think of going behind my back this time, Zoran. You may not be important to yourself, but that woman’s life is your everything," Devon remarked with a deadly glare. "Just because she’s staying under Nikolai’s protection doesn’t mean that I can no longer harm her. Don’t test my patience with you."

Zoran felt chills run down his spine. Devon wouldn’t say something like this without something to back it up. He was already too late in sending Dahlia off, so maybe Devon knew from there. Or perhaps the demon had a spy inside Nikolai’s palace that was close to Dahlia.

"My loyalty lies in you, Master," Zoran firmly answered. "I wouldn’t dare go behind your back."

He frowned when he heard Sibil chuckle beside him; the man only stopping when Devon gave him a pointed look.

"There’s no point in killing Nikolai since many are vying for his throne," Devon nonchalantly stated. "For now, stay in Valcrez and gain everyone’s trust."

Zoran blinked at what he felt just now. The instructions were simple, and yet he couldn’t help but feel more threatened by it. Before long, both he and Sibil were dismissed by Devon. He walked out of the throne room in deep thought, not exactly knowing what to expect.

"What’s with the long face? You should be glad that he assigned you near the woman you love," Sibil taunted him with his mocking smile, Which he promptly ignored as he passed him by. But before he could leave, Sibil held him firmly by the wrist. "Let’s see how long that arrogance of yours will last, Zoran. You think you’re above us just because the King favors you, but it won’t be long until it comes back to bite you..."

Zoran gave Sibil a raised eyebrow as he casually stated, "I’m favored and above you because I’m stronger and more powerful than you, Sibil... Now let my wrist go if you don’t want to lose that hand of yours this instant."

Rolling his eyes, Sibil quickly let him go. Free to do as he pleased, Zoran immediately left. He still needed to figure out Devon’s plans and do something about it so that Dahlia’s safety wouldn’t be compromised.
