Chapter 249: Shocking News
As scheduled, Mineah stayed the night at an inn at Ursa with Niran staying with her where they shared a dinner together.
"Will His Majesty come to you tonight?" Niran curiously asked.
"I’m not sure. He’s quite busy now, and he’ll be even busier now since he wants to tidy up matters with Haman while we’re looking for an opportunity to save Zoran," Mineah replied with a smile. "They usually only move at night, so Lai’s making sure to keep a close eye on them at this hour. How about you?! How are you and Raul doing?"
She didn’t bother reading Niran’s thoughts this time. Lately, her thoughts only contained mostly private affairs whenever she would ask about her relationship, and it wasn’t something Mineah would ever want to have knowledge of.
In truth, she felt bad that she even tried reading Niran’s thoughts out of worry for her, but seeing how her friend’s mind would wander onto sensitive, well... private and wild moments with her husband whenever she would ask about their relationship. So she finally decided to stop reading her thoughts anymore.... Unless something else happened, she supposed.
Back to her question, Niran offered Mineah a bashful smile and replied, "Please, milady. I’m doing well, and Raul, although he’s still not treating me as sweet as before, he’s already warming up for me." She lightly chuckled as she added, "It’ll take time, but I’m confident that the two of us will be able to pull through. I just need to woo him back into trusting me again."
"Well, I’m glad to hear it. It’s just that I couldn’t help but want to check on you more often," Mineah winked. "I’ll try to tone it down from now on."
From there, she went ahead and changed the topic to the next province that they needed to visit and what they should expect. All the while, she was glad Niran was with her through it all. It was nice to have someone she really knew. A friend that she sincerely trusted.
"Would you want to have a moment with our Seer?" Mineah suddenly asked. "We can arrange that once we attend Dani’s marriage at Ebodia."
It was the last she could do for her friend. Niran had no idea about where she came from, and she had been thinking about trying to help her discover it.
Unlike Seer Beirut who only has the gift to see the future, Tarah is also gifted to see into someone’s past. Some vampires have the ability to do it as well by drinking a person’s blood, but it always depends on the amount of blood they drink. In fact, one might end up draining Niran of her own blood if the past he wanted to see was when she was a baby.
At her offer, Niran’s face lit up as she gleefully replied, "Thank you so much for this offer, Milady. I’ll gladly do it."
Mineah nodded, and the two continued eating and talking. Soon, Niran left, and Mineah readied herself for bed. Unfortunately for her, Nikolai was truly busy, so she ended up holding herself back from contacting him through their bond.
Currently, she was lying in bed when her raven Nik suddenly contacted her.
[Master... Zaila has a piece of shocking news for you...]
Mineah raised an eyebrow as she wondered what could it be. She left her pet raven back home so that it could serve as a means of fast communication with her shadow maidens, especially if there was something important they would need to relay to her.
Right now, they weren’t powerful enough to cast a spell to communicate with her directly by just touching Nik. Dani showed great improvements in doing so last time, but it still wasn’t enough just yet.
[Tell me,] she said.
[Lady Zaila and Lady Krisha received a message from Ebodia. It’s an invitation for Prince Ezekiel’s coronation as the new King, but there’s also more,] her raven relayed. [They were also requested to participate in the selection of a new Queen.]
[What?!] Mineah burst out, making her jolt and sit up on the bed.
It almost didn’t make sense. But then, knowing Zaila and Krisha’s fathers, Mineah should no longer be surprised that they were both listed without bothering to ask them first if they wanted to do it or not. Besides, this could also be their way to get them back to Ebodia since both Zaila and Krisha went with her against their parents’ will.
It was just how things happened. Duke Rigor and Marquess Thibault couldn’t get a hold of their daughters before, but now, they finally had an opportunity to do so.
Mineah chuckled. "Being chosen to be my brother’s wife isn’t that bad," she snorted. "I should cheer those two..."
She then let out a heavy sigh. She would love it if all of her shadow maidens stayed by her side, but she also wanted them to have their own life and have a family of their own. Laura was probably exempted from this since her father, Marquess Japeth, simply supported her in all of her endeavors no matter what was it. He wouldn’t enlist her daughter in something without Laura’s permission first.
[Master, are you alright? That’s actually not the shocking news I was about to say,] Nik warned. [Please gather your bearings because what I’m about to say next is something that will truly shock you.]
Mineah frowned. Just what was it? [Stop with the suspense and just tell me everything, Nik,] she demanded with a pout.
[Lady Krisha is unconscious right now after she got marked by Taro!]
’What?!!!!" Mineah loudly exclaimed. "Taro??"
[Yes,] Nik reiterated. [Taro, the head of His Majesty’s shadow knights.]
Mineah frowned further at the news. Since when did those two get so close romantically? Was she too busy that she didn’t even notice it happen? At the rate that she was going, she wouldn’t be surprised if she just heard that it was Zaila who got marked one day by either Gregory, Sixto, or even Marlo whom had been she flirting with since they had that vacation at Ebodia, but Krisha?
Oh right, Taro also joined them on that vacation. Did their relationship progress that much in such a short time?
Her mind was going through a myriad of thoughts when Nikolai suddenly appeared before her with his sweetest smile.
"I missed you, Mine," he lovingly hummed as he announced his presence. "I came to you as fast as I could."
Instead of answering him, Mineah had a frown on her face as she demanded, "Call Taro right now. I need to have a word with him. That damn brute! How could he mark Krisha without properly marrying her first!"
Nikolai blinked at her. "Taro did what?!"
