Chapter 229: Before the Full Moon
Chapter 229: Before the Full Moon
Mineah was the first to arrive at the bedchamber and get ready for bed. Unfortunately for her, Nikolai was still outside. He was currently in close coordination with every part of the Valcrez government, ensuring that the same incident in the province of Norma wouldn’t happen again. There were so many things left to do, and yet Mineah didn’t feel weary just looking at them knowing that she and Nikolai were in this together.
[Are you going to sleep already?] Nikolai suddenly asked her through their bond.
[Not yet, Lai. I still have to discuss things with Mother and Wizard Lurio,] she replied. [Either way, I’m sure I’ll still be awake waiting for you to come back home.]
[Alright, I’ll see you soon,] Nikolai hummed. [I love you...]
Mineah just melted at his words as she smiled all alone inside their bedchamber. [I love you too,] she bashfully replied.
She gently patted her cheeks as she relished at how hot it felt. She might’ve looked silly right now, but she simply couldn’t help but squeal in excitement. She was so grateful that she and Nikolai were doing good now. In fact, she felt so light and inspired despite all the problems that she knew awaited them that she didn’t even care what would happen next.
Humming to herself, she meditated and instructed her pet pigeon Lily to connect her to her Mother. They were both bound to Lily, which was how the two of them could easily communicate with the pigeon as their medium.
[Lily, please tell Mother to connect through you,] Mineah instructed. [I need to talk to her.]
[Yes, Master,] Lily quickly answered before promptly relaying the message.
A few seconds later, Mineah felt her Mother’s presence through Lily.
[Mother,] she greeted.
[How are you feeling, dear?] her mother greeted back. [How is it going there? I was just about to contact you as well...]
[Everything is well here, Mother. Also, I’m feeling better these days. I’m still able to control the chaos inside of me, and so far, it’s not being triggered whenever I use energy for some minor spells,] Mineah informed her. [Although, I will admit that it reacted when I performed the Bloodthread spell on Jayra. I feel like a small portion of the barrier holding it back had a crack form inside of me.]
[I see. Then, for now, don’t perform any powerful spells. Just make sure that you always check on your energy and balance things out before you do anything,] her mother advised her. [You’re gifted in spellcraft, Mineah, and I’m very proud of you. I know you can do things with just your willpower, just don’t be stubborn. Please...]
[I won’t, Mother. Besides, I believe that using spells like how I did back in Norma is safe since it involves invoking the divine. Whenever I do things that way, it seems like the protective barrier surrounding my chaos gets stronger,] she relayed back with a curious hint to her tone. [I’ll observe how things go on this and keep you updated, Mother. How is Ezekiel by the way?]
[He’s doing good,] her mother smiled. [It seems like Tarah and Ezekiel...]
There was a long and heavy sigh, and Mineah couldn’t help but ask, [What’s wrong, Mother?]
[Those two are getting closer than usual,] her mother worriedly noted. [I’m just afraid of what could happen.]
Mineah couldn’t help but nod in understanding. She also noticed how something seemed to be going on between Ezekiel and Tarah. The latter was their Kingdom’s Seer, after all, and she would lose her power if she ever got involved with any man.
[Tarah is a big help to Ezekiel in controlling Vulcan. They’re planning to infiltrate Devon’s Castle to get the Ancient Book of the Dragons and the Chronicles of Fallen Angels, if I recall,] her mother recounted.
[Tarah saw in her vision how these books would help you and Ezekiel in the future somehow. Also, Tarah told me that you’ll need her help and that she’ll come there in two days’ time to see Dahlia. Lurio will teleport her to you.]
[Oh, I was about to ask...] Mineah noted. [I guess she already saw this coming.]
[Indeed so,] her mother hummed. [Tarah... she’s really been a great help in giving us a heads up on things so that we’re able to prepare ahead of time. She also just saw Devon’s schemes, and apparently, his main focus right now is to get your brother and absorb Vulcan’s power for his own purposes. That’s why your brother’s currently making out some plans. I’ll inform you of them later as soon as it’s all been finalized.]
Mineah nodded in affirmation. From there, the mother and daughter pair discussed a few more things before the latter eventually bid her mother farewell and cut off the connection. And just in time too as Nikolai appeared before her, making her jump out of bed as she went to greet him.
Only, her joy turned to horror when Nikolai suddenly slumped down on the ground.
"Lai!" she shouted as she quickly ran to his side and helped him back up to his feet.
"Damn!" Nikolai cursed as he stood back up.
"What happened?" Mineah whispered as she immediately scanned her husband from head to toe.
"I’m fine, Mine. Just some symptoms," Nikolai grumbled. "I’m usually weak a day before a full moon." Mineah’s eyes widened because it slipped her head.
"Tomorrow is a full moon?" she asked. "So you’ll need to feed on me then."
Mineah waited for an answer, and she frowned when Nikolai suddenly became quiet. "What’s wrong? Are you still scared?" she further. "We know for a fact now that you only lost control while feeding from Dahlia because of Rosela."
"Just to make sure," Nikolai trailed off before looking at her. "For now, let’s try the plan you suggested back then instead."
"Alright then. Zaila will store my blood and we’ll have it ready for you for the night," Mineah agreed, even if there was a hint of disapproval in her tone. "However, I won’t leave you in case it won’t work or if it wouldn’t be enough to sate you."
"I’ll keep that in mind," Nikolai mumbled as he finally stood up straight.
"In the meantime, it won’t be safe for you to stay here tomorrow night. We’ll stay at my solitary cave in Mount Orion tomorrow before the full moon rises. A lot of powerful vampires walk around the palace, and we can’t afford to have any of them getting attracted to your scent. In addition, I had a withdrawal before and will have to consume new blood tomorrow, so there’s a possibility of me becoming feral as I adjust myself to feeding from a new source during a full moon."
Nodding, Mineah cupped his cheeks as she replied. "You worry too much. Everything will be fine tomorrow," she reassured him. "Remember: I’m no longer that weak. I’m sure I’ll be able to handle you well, Lai."
Nikolai smiled back as he caressed her hands cupping his face. "Can you handle me now then, Mine?" She blushed when Nikolai suddenly looked down and gestured down on his growing bulge as he shamelessly whispered, "I’ve been dying to be inside you all day in my head."
Mineah blushed hard, but she definitely had no intention of denying her husband his needs. Still, she couldn’t help but tease him as she questioned, "I thought you were getting weak right now?"
