Chapter 145: To Live Longer
Chapter 145: To Live Longer
Suddenly, Mineah’s bright and blushing face became serious and solemn as she stared deep into Nikolai’s amber eyes. A sudden sharp pain erupted in her chest, causing her to clutch at her chest in pain as she did her best to understand what was happening.
"Mine? What’s wrong?" Nikolai anxiously asked.
Mineah’s eyes widened in horror upon realizing that it was the dagger that her body had absorbed prior. She looked at Nikolai, and Seer Beirut’s last words in his letter rang in her ears...
’That dagger will help you end your curse by using it to stab an immortal heart... However, the visions aren’t clear enough for me to assure you that the heart you have to stab belongs to the Vampire King of Valcrez. Please wait for the new seer to ascend and guide you on this end. Until then, don’t make any impulsive actions...’
This shouldn’t be... Despite the pain she was feeling, it still wasn’t as bad as the pain she had at the thought of hurting Nikolai. There was no way she could do it, especially now that they had a connection.
’I’m sure it’s not Nikolai,’ she reasoned to herself. ’It’s not like he’s the only one with an Immortal Heart in this world.’
Throughout this, Nikolai was frowning as he looked at her hand grasping at her chest. "What’s wrong, Mine? Do you need a healer to check on you?"
Mineah shook her head. "It’s nothing, Lai," she replied with a faint smile. "It’s just the dagger inside my body reacting to my emotions."
"Dagger inside your body?" Nikolai dubiously asked.
Mineah took her time to take a breath while Nikolai stared at her with his questioning eyes. She didn’t want to keep him in the dark anymore. She wanted him to get involved with her affairs just as much as she wanted to get involved in all his affairs.
Trust and communication were the major requirements for a firm foundation in a relationship alongside commitment and love, after all, and she wasn’t going to just throw it all away just to try and keep a secret. That was what her mother taught her, and she was going to make sure to follow it, especially now that she felt that Nikolai was trustworthy enough.
"I didn’t tell you everything about my curse, Lai..." she started before letting out another sigh. "So far, we’ve broken the curse about me not being tainted by any man. However, I still have one left."
Nikolai blinked before moving quickly to hold her hands. Gently squeezing them, he firmly told her, "Tell me, Mine, and we’ll handle this curse together."
Mineah bit her lower lip, her eyes on Nikolai’s as if waiting for his approval. In turn, he nodded, encouraging her to tell him everything.
"I’m bound to bring death to myself and to the world the moment the moon turns red," she stated, not breaking eye contact with her husband.
Nodding, his face darkened as his grip on her hands tightened. "In that case, I won’t let anything bad happen to you, Mine," he confidently declared. "I will protect you no matter what!"
Mineah couldn’t help but smile. His words were like music to her ears, especially with all the conviction his voice held. However, things were always much easier said than done, and she knew that well enough.
As if seeing her hesitation, Nikolai pulled her closer to him and protectively wrapped his arms around her. "We’re not even sure it that’s really the case. You said that you had to remain untainted forever, and yet nothing even happened," he humorously remarked. "I’ve just completely and utterly tainted you and your whole body, and I’m still here."
Chuckling, she gently hit him in the arm. "This is serious," she scolded him. "Stop joking around."
"Also, your Seer told me that not all of his visions tend to happen..." Nikolai casually remarked.
’He met Seer Beirut?’ she inwardly asked with a frown. Gently pushing Nikolai away so she could look into his eyes, she asked, "You’ve met Seer Beirut?"
To her surprise, Nikolai had this awkward smile on his face as he nodded. "I met him while we were on a journey," he explained. "Specifically, it was during the time when I left you in a carriage with Aunt Alexa."
From there, Nikolai then told her about his complete conversation with Seer Beirut.
"I had an idea that it wasn’t just one curse since he slipped by saying the word curses," he recounted. "That was also when I confirmed that you’re resistant to hypnotism and compulsion. You mentioned just one curse to me, Mine when I asked you to tell me all about it."
"Why didn’t you confront me then?" she gasped.
"Hmm... It was a very confidential matter to you, Mine. I was anxious to know more of it, but I waited for you to trust me enough to tell me everything of your own free will... Like what you did just now, Mine," he sincerely stated as he pulled her to him once again into a warm embrace and a loving kiss. "Truly, thank you for trusting me about this and letting me share your burden."
Mineah bit her lower lip even as she found herself being showered with his affection. Despite everything she had just told him, there was still one more thing that she was keeping him in the dark about, and it was the angel blood within her. However, once things get resolved in regard to her brother Ezekiel, she would immediately tell Nikolai about it.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, of course. She just knew that If she told him about such a thing now, then his suspicions about her brother and Vulcan would only grow more. In fact, that alone would be more than enough to confirm that her brother’s body would be able to hold onto Vulcan’s soul.
"The dagger... What does that dagger have to do with the curse, Mine?" Nikolai worriedly asked. "Why are you feeling pain?"
"Well, Seer Beirut was the one that gifted me this dagger; one that contained divine powers. He said he searched for this for ten years because this dagger will help him end the curse somehow," she explained, leaving out the part about how she would need to stab an immortal heart with the dagger to end her curse.
"Then, my body somehow absorbed the dagger, leading to it being inside me right now. Also, his vision wasn’t clear to him as well, so he told me to meet the new Seer our kingdom would get because she will apparently have the answers to everything about my curse."
All this, of course, was assuming that Seer Beirut’s visions would come true. However, even he admitted that his visions were unclear, so there was no point in mentioning it to Nikolai just yet. She would have to confirm things first with their new Seer before explaining things further.
"Alright then, we should get ready," Nikolai whispered into her ear, seemingly having had enough of the topic. "We’ll travel in my mist form as soon as you’re ready, Mine..."
"Thank you, Lai," she replied with a smile on her face.
She couldn’t help but let out a content sigh at the talk they just had. Somehow, she felt her burdens being lifted as soon as she shared this secret of hers with him, one that she had kept to herself for all this time.
Now, she had her brother and Nikolai who knew about the dangers she could bring into this world. For the first time in a while, she was hopeful and optimistic that this curse of hers would end some time soon. She still doesn’t fear death, of course. However, she was starting to have this great desire to live longer if only so that she could spend more time with Nikolai...
