Chapter 135: Catching Up

Chapter 135: Catching Up

Xenia’s face paled, and Mineah knew her big sister just realized how grave and dangerous their brother’s situation currently was.

Xenia stared at her and whispered, "Ezekiel... He’s the one that’s cursed? That’s the only explanation for this, Mineah. How could a dragon have stayed and lived inside of him all this time? Can we get him back?"

"That’s why Mother and I have to go," Mineah reiterated. "We’ll sort things out for our brother."

It was unfortunate that she had to lie like this. She couldn’t even tell her dear sister Xenia that she was the one that was truly cursed. Ezekiel’s case was very different, one that was too uncertain for them to honestly assume that it was a curse.

"I’ll do everything in my power to focus on becoming Queen, Mineah," Xenia declared. "You and our parents don’t need to worry about me."

"I will need to gain power over Cordon for me to even help. And as much as I hate to say this... I’ll use everything in my power as future Queen to make sure that our brother can come back to us safely," Xenia further declared. "I don’t know a thing about dragons and how one even managed to merge with our brother, but I’m sure Ezekiel will get a hold of himself eventually. He won’t just disappear on us like that..."

Xenia flashed her a determined gaze, and Mineah had a satisfied smile on her face knowing that her sister would know what to do best on her end. She was glad to hear that she wouldn’t sway on her focus at the moment.

"Tarah..." Xenia suddenly murmured.

"You mean the newly appointed seer, right? She’s missing too," Mineah revealed. "They said Tarah ran after Ezekiel, so I believe she was with our brother before he turned into a dragon. I’ll try to inform you of all the details as soon as I get a hold of them on my arrival at the encampment, Sister."

Also, she needed to meet with the new seer so that she could inquire more about her curses. It was what Seer Beirut last told her, and that would be the only chance for her to verify what he said to her.

She then gave Xenia a nod, "I’ll also inform Mother that you’re currently aware of the situation and that you won’t let this matter distract you."

"Thank you," Xenia nodded at her before she added, "And please, don’t hide things from me again like this. Make sure you tell the same to Mother, Mineah..." She blinked before correcting herself, "Ah, never mind. I’ll tell her myself. I’ll write a letter to her now. Please give it to her once you meet her."

Mineah nodded before she assisted Xenia with what she needed.

Meanwhile, Nikolai led Darius inside the throne hall where his court officials were already waiting.

"Greeting To His Majesties, King Nikolai and King Darius!" the officials greeted on bent knees as Nikolai walked towards his throne. Behind him, Darius followed as he was guided by Gregory to his assigned seat close to him and in front of Chancellor Abel.

"It’s been a while," Darius hummed to everyone who then raised their heads and went back on their feet.

"Yes, indeed. It’s been a while since your last visit, Your Majesty, King Darius," the Exordium, Sage, commented with a raised brow. "We heard that you arrived with Princess Xenia."

By the sidelines, Nikolai stayed quiet as he simply observed his officials’ actions.

"Yes, indeed, Lady Sage. I arrived together with my MATE, Princess Xenia," Darius hummed. "I am deeply grateful to your King, Nikolai, who gave me his humble gestures in honoring the Beholden Law between us."

Nikolai suppressed his smirk as he interrupted the proceedings. "I owe my life to Darius, so it’s only proper for me to honor the Beholden Law and his request," he coolly stated. "After all, I wouldn’t dare covet a werewolf’s mate."

"However, His Majesty, King Darius must still take responsibility for snatching away our King’s initial bride, Princess Xenia, should her sister, our new Queen, be incapable of bearing our monarch enough heirs that would allow the pureblood lineage of an Exordium having the Mark of Eternity to continue," Exordium Eva directly stated.

Nikolai felt a lump in his throat, but he tried his best to maintain a blank expression.

"We can only hope that His Majesty, our King Nikolai, did the right choice," Exordium Sage seconded with a heavy and firm tone. "The prophecy must be fulfilled, and we’re waiting for an heir soon. If our Queen won’t be able to fulfill her duty, then a disaster could very well happen to our kingdom as it was prophesied."

"I’m sure our King is already at work seeing it’s been days already since the Midnight Sun waiting ended," his mother interrupted, salvaging the tense conversation.

Nikolai coughed to clear his throat as he quickly changed the topic. Moving the talks forward toward strengthening the alliance between his kingdom and Cordon, he did his best to let things happen as quickly as possible. As much as possible, he wanted to end the meeting so that they could move on to better things.

After some time, Nikolai finally let himself breathe as he and Darius made their way to the dining hall as soon as they were finished meeting with the Valcrez Royal Council.

"It seems like they’re pushing you hard to make babies," Darius teased him.

Nikolai only chuckled and murmured, "Aren’t you lucky then, my friend, seeing that you’re not being pushed as hard as me on the issue??"

"Well, they don’t need to," Darius replied with a burst of crisp laughter. "I’ll get to it anyway in one way or another."

Nikolai only shook his head as they continued their walk through the hallway. Soon enough, they reached their destination, their respective other halves already waiting for them inside the dining hall when the two entered. The usual greetings were exchanged, and supper went well enough.

After a bout of silence, Princess Xenia looked at Nikolai as she said, "Your Majesty, it’s been a while since I’ve been with my sister. Is it alright if she sleeps with me tonight?"

Darius looked at him with a frown, and Nikolai simply ignored his gaze as he answered.

"Sure, Princess Xenia. You’ll be leaving tomorrow, so I bet you and your sister have a lot of catching up to do before that," Nikolai nodded, even winking at his wife Mineah as he continued. "You can borrow Mine from me tonight. No worries..."

He knew well how his dear wife would want to spend more time with her sister like this, so it wasn’t that big of a deal for him. Besides, he could simply enter her dreams later if he wanted anyway.

[Drop that smile. I won’t let you enter my dreams tonight...] Mineah suddenly told him through their bond.

[But why?] he asked back while staring at her increasingly reddening face.

[You’ll just try to be intimate with me, and I don’t want to be embarrassed with my sister sleeping beside me,] she sternly replied. [I might end up moaning lewdly!]

Nikolai coughed so hard at her words that he almost choked on the piece of meat he had suddenly swallowed. He stared at Mineah and replied, [Don’t worry, Mine. I promise I’ll behave in your dream this time. How about I just tour you around the corners of the palace while I carry you?]

He was going to fight for this. There was no way he wouldn’t enter her dreams, or else he would feel alone and lonely that coming night.
