The Crown's Seduction
Chapter 123: Avenge

Chapter 123: Avenge

Nikolai cursed under his breath the moment he opened his eyes. He was practically sweating all over.

Wiping the sweat off his forehead, he scoffed, "Since when did I last perspire like this?"

Standing up, he turned to his open balcony. It was still dark outside... Still no sign of the coming Midnight Sun...

"That Fritz," he grunted as he walked toward his private bath area. "Making false assumptions..."

Not that it was false, he was just too impatient at this point. He trusted the man enough to know that once he told him that the Midnight Sun would arrive today, it would eventually do so. It wasn’t midnight yet, so all he needed to do was wait for a few moments.

In the meantime, he dipped himself into his bath and relaxed while passing the time. Letting out a sigh, he couldn’t help but stretch his lips wide at his recent developments. He had been into Mineah’s dreams more often recently, and he could only wonder what would her reaction would be once he told her about it.

"She’ll get angry, probably," he hummed with a sigh.

But then again, what could he do? Entering her dreams was the only option he had to be with her for longer than what was allowed like time. Like last night, they had a lot of fun exploring the different parts of the palace in her dream. He manipulated her dreams to his standards, and she was able to get the tour that she wanted.

The two of them also enjoyed doing other things together inside her dream. Apart from being intimate, of course. It couldn’t be helped... It wasn’t like he was the only one initiating them.

A mischievous smile played across his face upon recalling those moments. Whenever Mineah was the one to initiate intimacy, he couldn’t help but chuckle at her lack of knowledge. She might’ve thought that he was nothing more than a figment of her dreams, but he was actually already taking advantage of her unaware mind.

[Master,] Taro suddenly called through their bond, interrupting him from his beautiful thoughts of his wife.

[What is it?] Nikolai asked with lifted brows. He had assigned Taro to go to Ebodian Camp and report to him about particular things that he didn’t want his sister Ezme to get involved with. He wanted his sister to focus on being helpful to Ebodia in this war and not be personally engaged in avenging their father’s death.

[There’s still no news about Prince Ezekiel, and so far, the golden dragon has still not shown himself as well,] Taro reported. [Also, the new Seer of Ebodia went missing too. Someone from our men saw her following the tracks of the flying golden dragon, and since then, she’s nowhere to be found like the Prince. Both of them are missing for days now, and there’s still no progress on the confidential search going on.]

Nikolai creased his forehead and hummed. "It couldn’t be..."

Giving it some thought, however, he shook his head. There was no way that Prince Ezekiel would be connected somehow...

"It’s impossible for a human to be taken over," he mulled over his thoughts. "My father, who is more powerful compared to most humans, barely lasted a day against Vulcan..."

Nikolai clicked his tongue in frustration. Just what was he thinking? But then, the puzzle pieces seemed to align with how the appearance of the dragon coincided with Ezekiel’s disappearance, not to mention how the new Seer then followed the dragon. Was it all coincidence?

"That’s right... Surely, there’s nothing to think about," he murmured to himself. "No human would last against a dragon soul merging with them."

[Master, can I go back now?] Taro asked.

[Not yet, Taro. Stay there and observe the situation for now,] Nikolai instructed, still in deep thought about the situation. [However, if you have anything else important to do here, then just say so and I will have Marlo or Luis substitute for you.]

[Nothing of importance, Your Majesty. It can wait,] Taro declined. [I shall stay here and observe as per your instructions.]

Nodding, Nikolai then gave Taro a few more instructions before finally cutting the connection. Letting out a sigh, he shook his head as his thoughts returned to his initial hypothesis.

"But what if what I’m thinking was right?" Nikolai mulled with a dark expression.

As much as he wanted to do otherwise, he wasn’t eliminating the possibility of Vulcan merging its soul with Ezekiel. It would cause a mess, however. After all, he was dead set on eliminating Vulcan no matter what happens. He was honestly already trying to think of ways of how he could enter the Forbidden Forest and find Vulcan’s soul to destroy it.

He had even tasked Fritz to find a way for him to enact his vengeance...

Creasing his forehead, he grumbled, "The Ward Family is very mysterious. Why do I have this feeling that they’re keeping too many secrets..." He closed his eyes as he hummed, "Why do I feel like they’re not just any other ordinary human beings?"

His eyes still closed, Nikolai reminisced about all the wonderful times he had spent with his father. But in particular, the one memory that was imprinted in him was when Dahlia died. His father comforted him nonstop, uncaring even if work went undone.

"Son, come on and get up. Come with me and let’s go fishing..."

"Son, come with me to visit this forest. I heard there are a lot of animals we can hunt in there..."

"Son do this and do that..."

"No matter what happens in your life, don’t give up. It’s only natural for us to stumble and fall, but what’s important is that we continue to stand up and move forward, Son. Get back on your feet, and I’ll keep walking with you, even carrying you along the way..."

His father had him running around busy with a lot of things, and while it was tiring, he knew it was his way of comforting him and keeping him in place.

There was also this one time when he witnessed his father cry so hard as he begged all the alchemists he had gathered to help him survive the full moon once Dahlia was gone.

"Please save my son! I’ll do anything, just save my son"

Those words... His father kept saying those words on bent knees despite being the king...

He owed his father everything... He was able to sustain himself from the pain and guilt of it all precisely because his father stood as a strong pillar for him.

But not soon after the incident of the dragon souls merging with all living things, all hell broke loose. The blasted things lingered around powerful vampires seeing as their kind was able to withstand merging with their kind longer than any other beings.

In the end, Vulcan merged with his father, and he could only watch as his father suffered much just to not let Vulcan take over him. He succeeded, but... his father died...

"Father," Nikola wistfully hummed as he slowly opened his eyes. "Finally, Vulcan is out on its own... I will crush that bastard with my own hands.

Nikolai vowed that he would avenge his death no matter what. Now that Vulcan had appeared on its own, he would destroy that dragon and not let a single piece of it remain in this world.
