The Crown's Seduction
Chapter 106: The Courtroom

Chapter 106: The Courtroom

Somehow, the moment Mineah rose from her bed that morning, she couldn’t help but feel excited. After all, today was the start of Rosela’s trial, and she just couldn’t wait to see what kind of excuses the woman will somehow come up with before she’d inevitably be compelled to just tell the truth.

"You look excited," Dani chuckled as she and the rest of the Shadow Maidens did their usual morning duties of preparing their liege for the day. "Is it about the trial later?"

"Is it that obvious?" Mineah chuckled back as she allowed them to adjust her dress for the day. She was going to watch the trial with her own eyes, and for the life of her, she wanted to look great the moment Rosela finally met her end.

"Then again, I am finally going to get rid of the one thorn that’s constantly been an annoyance for so long. She even threatened to get rid of me. Well, too bad for her, her wrongdoings finally caught up to her." she added followed by a sigh of relief.

It was karmic retribution, in a sense. For all the things that Rosela had done to better their shared love interests, she did so without so much as a shred of conscience or remorse so long as she got what she wanted. It was no wonder then that the Almighty finally allowed justice to shine a light on Rosela’s crimes.

"But don’t you think she still has a few tricks up her sleeve?" Krisha absently asked. "She might try and wriggle herself out of this."

Zaila hummed in agreement. "Perhaps we should keep our increased vigilance even in the courtroom? For all we know, she might’ve arranged something as an escape attempt."

"Oh, I’m sure she has a plan, but I don’t think she gets to leave unscathed this time," Mineah lightly scoffed. "She has nowhere else to run. The Queen Mother, her strongest ally, is guaranteed to turn on her the moment her crimes are revealed. Also, she will know how Rosela manipulated everything and made it look like her son was the one responsible for Dahlia’s death."

Mineah opened her palm and looked at the relic in her hand and continued, "The dungeon keeping her prisoned has its walls enchanted to the point that not even the strongest vampires could ever escape it, and Nikolai himself. The most powerful vampire in the kingdom will be the one overseeing the trial himself. So no, she won’t live till tomorrow if she ever gets the harshest sentence for her crimes."

It was practically guaranteed that Rosela wouldn’t be walking out of this trial as a free woman, and that was if she could even escape from having a death sentence doled out for what amounted to treason in her use of dark magic to frame her and usurp her as Queen.

There were no other outcomes that would make Rosela come out better than how she went in. She was either going to be imprisoned for the rest of her days, or she’d be dead after being executed for her crimes.

Letting out a small sigh, Mineah gave herself one last lookover before nodding at her current state of dress. It wasn’t as flashy as what she normally wore, but it was appropriate for the event that she was about to witness.

"Milady," Dani called at her.

"Yes, Dani..."

"Last night, I showed the memories to Chancelor Abel. Like I expected, he planned to save Rosela, but thanks to the spell I did on him, I was able to command him not to do anything to save her," Dani explained at length. "He also questioned why Rosela told you the truth like that. I mean, if we present that as evidence, would they even believe it? What if they say that we only fabricated it?"

Mineah already thought of the same thing. Her power to compel people would be revealed if she did this. Then again, it was worth it. Nikolai didn’t deserve to be labeled as a killer who drained the love of his life of her blood, and she wouldn’t mind being exposed if it meant clearing her husband’s name.

She gave Dani a smile and said, "They can easily find the answers they want once they ask the appropriate questions while having her subjected to the compulsion to give an honest answer." She shrugged as she added, "Let’s move, Dani. You’ll find the answers you seek later."

Dani simply curtly nodded at her, and Mineah smiled upon seeing that Dani didn’t bother to pursue the topic further.

With a signal to her Shadow Maidens, Mineah led her group as they made their way to the courtroom located in another wing of the Corvus Palace itself. There, she would attend as one of the accusers, but she didn’t expect to do a lot of talking since she was sure Rosela would just be compelled into confessing her crimes anyway.

"This is more a formality than anything..." she whispered to herself as she walked up to the doors of the courtroom.

Letting the guards open the doors and announce her presence, she promptly made her way to the seat reserved for her before looking at the main event in the middle of the room.

Well, she was sure that this trial would be more of a spectacle than an actual hearing. She smiled while looking at her husband playing judge, jury, and executioner for her.

’I’ll clear your name today, Lai. I will take away the burden that this vile Rosela let you carry for years,’ she inwardly thought. ’You’re not responsible for Dahlia’s death, so I hope that you can finally let go of the guilt you’re keeping inside you for so many years...’

[Mine, you look like you have something you want to say to me,] Lai said through their bond as their eyes met.

She nodded and replied, [Later, Dani will present another piece of evidence of Rosela’s great crime. Please let everyone inside the room witness it.]

She then looked around, and from the corner of the audience, Mineah saw Rosela’s family. Obviously, they harbored a great grudge against the wrong person. They said that Nikolai took Dahlia from them. Well, today, they would all be enlightened on how Rosela was the one that actually did it!
