Chapter 105: Thank Me Later for Saving Your Life

At the Chancellor’s Residence

"Master, we must do something!" Mason grunted in panic as Abel paced back and forth.

Hearing his servant’s outburst, Abel halted and glared at the man. "I tasked you to look after Rosela. And you... what have you been doing all this time?!" he growled. "How come you weren’t aware of what she’s been planning and doing this whole time?!"

Abel couldn’t believe what just happened. Rosela insisted that she wasn’t guilty, but knowing her for all these years and knowing how obsessive she was about Nikolai, he was hesitant to believe her.

"I... I-"

Mason was speechless, And Abel gritted his teeth as he approached his Curb. With one hand, he grabbed his neck and sank his teeth in between his neck and shoulder blades. Tapping into his power, Abel saw firsthand Mason’s memories, and his eyes widened as it all unfolded before him.

Unknowingly, tears pooled in his eyes as he saw everything. As soon as it was over, he released Mason from his grip, his knees wobbling as he weakly sat on his chair.

"Rosela... You..."

"Master... I’m sorry! I beg you, please spare my life!" Mason cried on bent knees. "Please, Master... I wasn’t able to resist the temptation... I..."

Abel’s red eyes glared at the man before his feet. Shaking his head, he chuckled maniacally as he gritted his teeth.

"You... how dare you..."

"Maste-"

Before Mason could even finish his words, Abel’s eyes glowed with his power. In that instant, his servant’s lifeless body fell to the ground like a puppet whose strings had been cut. All was silent for a brief second, but he wasn’t going to just let this useless corpse stay around.

"Grab his body and burn it!"

At his command, two men appeared in the room. Wordlessly, they knelt down and dragged Mason’s lifeless body out of his private study. All the while, Abel was busy thinking about what he just saw.

"Rosela," he grunted as he balled his fist hard.

He was very conflicted with his emotions. He loved Rosela so much that he didn’t want to witness her die before his eyes. And yet, what she did was far too reckless and wrong for him to ignore. He had been doing his best to clean after her mess, but this time was different. She went too far that it became something that he couldn’t easily fix.

Sighing, Abel stood up and went out. He needed to see Rosela, and after he got permission from Haman, he directly made his way to the dungeons where Rosela was being held. He was very confused at the moment, and he needed more information before he decided on how he’d proceed.

In truth, he was honestly considering trying to save her by taking her away to a faraway place where no one would know the two of them and start over. However...

Abel continued walking, and he was almost at the entrance when...

"Stop right there and come with me," Dani’s familiar voice commanded. As usual, his body moved and followed her.

"I knew this will happen," Dani hissed the moment she stopped walking to face him. "Hah! It’s a good thing I had the outside of the dungeons’ entrance observed!"

Abel stared at the woman currently holding his metaphorical leash. Her face was so dark, and yet somehow, he found the sight adorable enough that his conflicted thoughts seemed to disappear for a brief moment. ’That’s weird,’ he thought with a frown.

"Tell me, what are you planning to do?!" she demanded.

Abel could feel the bond between them strain. He had no plans to answer her, but that damned spell was making him do it against his will!

"I want to see Rosela and talk to her," he droned out. "I don’t know what to do yet, but I’m thinking of helping her escape and giving her a new life far away where no one can find us."

"You really are a fool, aren’t you? Helping her will also kill you," Dani pointed out with a frown. "But I guess you’re so blinded by your love for that good-for-nothing woman that you’ll just kill yourself."

She let out a sigh before continuing, but not before pulling out a piece of reflective stone from her pocket. "How about I let you watch this so you’ll know what kind of a woman she is? This is a special relic that can store a specific event. A while ago, our Queen visited Rosela and brought this with her to present as one of the pieces of evidence for Rosela’s crimes..."

Abel narrowed his eyes as a white cloud appeared in front of them. From there, he watched the conversation between the Queen and Rosela, and his face paled as he saw what exactly happened.

"No... But why... Why would she confess this easily to Her Majesty?" Abel thought aloud.

It didn’t make any sense. If Rosela truly did what she did to her sister, then why would she spill it to the queen knowing that Her Majesty could just tell Nikolai about it?

"I honestly don’t know how that happened as well, but that’s not the point here! Someone like her who stooped so low to kill her own sister will not change. Her obsession with the king is too much already, and it’d be better if she just disappeared before she hurt everyone else around her," Dani hissed at him.

"That’s a toxic kind of love, and she will stop at nothing to get what she wants! She will never change even if you take her away with you. She’ll only bide time and plan on her next move, so wake up, you fool!"

Abel grumbled under his breath. For too long, this woman has been calling him a fool.... His jaw tightened as he exclaimed, "You... How dare you call me a fool!?"

Dani blinked at him and said, "I told you already, I’ll only apologize for calling you a fool if you stop acting like one."

She then shook her head and murmured, "You can thank me later for saving your life from that vile woman, Chancellor. Be grateful that I performed the Thrall Chaining Spell on you, because you would’ve surely wasted your life following a woman like her if I didn’t stop you."

Abel parted his lips as he looked at Dani’s frowning face. What was happening right now was so unbelievable, and yet he couldn’t even speak about it.

"Go back to your residence and do nothing to help Rosela. Focus on your work instead as a Chancellor!" Dani commanded. "Be a just and righteous official for this kingdom, and don’t be biased because of your love for a vile woman. Don’t waste your life saving her. Don’t think of Rosela as someone worth anything! Go and leave now!"

Predictably, Abel’s body moved against his will. "You! You will pay for this!" he threatened her. "As soon as this spell wears off, I’ll definitely get back at you for this, Lady Dani!"

"Oh, I’m so scared Chancellor!" Dani laughed at him.

"That woman!" Abel hissed with a dim face.
