Chapter 414: Chapter 349: BOSS Crimson Knight
Speaking of the Crimson Knight Saiwen Hedwin, he was unquestionably a legendary figure, the Sword Saint of Rand Kingdom, a bloodthirsty outlaw who slew countless masters, and he never hesitated to bare his fangs at the weak.
Neither Redwald nor Rania had any way to deal with him after they ascended to the throne.
Mentioning his name could stop children from crying at night.
He was hardly what one might call a hero, yet he really was infamous. With him around, Rand Kingdom was always full of complaints, and the relationship with Black Marsh Kingdom could quickly hit rock bottom, mostly because he loved to hunt those border soldiers.
Black Island was bound to be a tough nut to crack.
Everything should have been as such.
You know this, but.
Her Majesty the Queen held a meeting and decided to prioritize Black Island as their next issue to handle. Those attending the meeting included Queen Rania Hedwin, as well as her loyal Duke of Lions, and the commander of the Rand Legion, Lind Armand.
Also present were Marcus, who managed the Legion’s Cavalry, Lance who was in charge of the archer squad, and Lord Wen of Raven City who managed the soldiers...
All of them were Lind’s subordinates, and they had long sworn fealty to him.
The lord of my lord is not my lord.
Rania could affirm that the only thing that truly belonged to her in this kingdom was the Golden Throne beneath her; sitting upon it felt anything but comfortable.
Lance pulled out a map. Nowadays, with magic slowly being utilized, the soldiers still chose to use hand-drawn maps, perhaps finding the tactile and visual rendering of the landscapes more reassuring and authentic.
This was a map of the area northwest of Royal City Goliath; as Lance stretched out his arms to press the slightly curled edges of the map onto the table, it was as if he himself was holding down the mountains and forests depicted upon it.
"Reaching Black Island, we must spend several weeks’ time," said Lance.
From the moment Lance began to speak, Rania knew he must be voicing sentiments on behalf of Lind. She turned her head to glance at him.
"We will have to pass through a small fiefdom, the Crimson Knight’s arena," he said.
"You want to go to that place?" Rania understood what Lind meant.
Because looking at the map, traveling to the Crimson Knight’s arena required a slight detour that didn’t seem straightforward.
"It’s not that I want to go there, but we must take this route," Lind pointed at the map, the tapping of his forefinger on the tabletop sending a slight tremor through one’s heart.
"From here, even if we cut through the forest, we would come upon a swamp, and the only path left to us would be a narrow bridge allowing only two soldiers to cross side by side. Even if Prince Saiwen is not adept at military tactics, he would certainly know to block us at this point, or simply wait for us to cross the bridge and then spring a trap from behind. Imagine what happens when a group of soldiers in heavy armor falls into a raging river."
Nobody would miss the chance to strike a drowning man.
"Moreover, as far as I know, the prince has always been quite skillful at killing," Lind continued: "So we must try to avoid the forest and swamp route and take a detour to the Crimson Knight’s arena, then cross over that mountain, where a lake awaits us."
"A lake?" Rania frowned, "There are no bridges there."
Surely they wouldn’t use fishing boats.
"Yes, there are no bridges," Lind nodded, "but I have received word that there’s a group of pitiable residents in our domain that need help, and they will assist in crossing the water."
"What have you promised them?" Rania asked.
"No promises, but from what I hear, their lord hopes for an opportunity to swear fealty to Rand Kingdom, to Your Majesty," said Lind.
With the main direction of the attack now determined, Lind ceased to speak.
But he felt like a powerful courtier who had completely sidelined the queen’s authority. Everyone, when stating their battle plans, would subconsciously glance towards him.
He was practically a bona fide villain!
Yet he also thought, if only someone would counterargue, that’d be great. This thankless task was truly not to his liking.
A broader stage awaited him— in Magic Land, in Permafrost Land; anyway, it definitely wasn’t Xilu Continent.
Black Island had long since been fortified into an impregnable stronghold by the Black Catfish Prince, surrounded by swamps and lakes with a terrain that provided a strong defensive position and made it difficult to attack. Furthermore, according to some very old maps of Black Island, one could see that the Black Catfish Prince had transformed his domain into a veritable labyrinth.
The layered zones dazzled the eyes.
And who knows how many dangers lurked within.
But once the soldiers of the Rand Legion reached Black Island, the fight would be over. Lind would not personally partake in the war; he was trying to extract himself from the front lines, as the tiresome military campaigns had drained too much of his energy.
He needed to prepare for a higher level of combat—adversaries that could not be overcome by sheer numbers, at least not at the current stage.
After the meeting concluded, the Legion began to prepare.
At the same time, the immortals of Rand Kingdom were given their new orders: to attack Black Island!
There were two paths: one would take an additional two weeks but was less risky, requiring a detour; the other was much more dangerous, and one might die, but it offered the shortest route to the destination.
Ask the immortals which one they would choose?
Immortals: Two paths? We only see one!
After receiving their orders, the immortals embarked on their journey to Black Island. They still chose to travel in small groups, as if this were a war that everyone knew about.
