Chapter 318: Chapter 272 Tao Lexi: (3_3)
"I just knew he would definitely make a move on the Queen!" an Undead declared confidently.
After entering the Mountain Demon Castle, the events that had occurred over the past year involving Lind had long been inquired about by the Undead, giving them a general idea.
Among the most famous was on the day the Lord of the Goblin Castle got married, when Lind led his troops to storm the castle, decisively wiped out the Lord, and carried off the Queen.
Every time Lind conquered a territory, he would kidnap the Poster Girl, which had become his old tradition.
Even when we Undead couldn’t log in due to game updates, you really didn’t stay idle, huh? You never hesitated when it came to kidnapping.
There were already people asking the Undead from the New Nobility faction whether there were any beautiful Poster Girls in their territories, because if there were, it would be bad news—Lind would surely attack.
This guy has a Poster Girl collection obsession.
But not a single Undead condemned Lind’s "kidnapping of Poster Girls." They only ridiculed his actions with their words—ask if they support him, and they would certainly raise both hands and feet in support.
That the Poster Girl of the Goblin Castle was none other than Queen of Rand only made them like it more.
Lind, you little rascal, well done!
Kidnap more, the more the merrier.
My loyalty to the Rand Kingdom was rather ambiguous, but now I truly must swear fealty unto death.
Lind sat in the council hall of the Mountain Demon Castle, and unlike Star Dragon City that was fully autonomous, the operation of the Goblin Castle still depended on his push.
He had pushed out old timers like Old Pete and Reed from Star Dragon City; they had experience with task assignment and had also lived through the era of scroll rewards, so their actions were more fitting.
But it was still not enough.
This time he wasn’t looking to squeeze advantages from the Undead. With self-sufficiency and the gradual formation of the New Rand Legion, Lind had already become a genuine Duke, commanding forces to unify the continent of Rand was a bit difficult, but to cut through a region, there wouldn’t be much resistance—not even Raven City would likely choose to confront him head-on.
He needed tasks to retain the Undead; otherwise, these utterly disloyal fellows might defect to the New Nobility. Every ounce of strength that went over to the enemy would come back to fight against himself.
So he directed the Soldiers within the Goblin Castle to assign tasks.
The cook’s would be gathering tasks, the sentry’s, letter delivery tasks.
But the outcome wasn’t very good; a large number of Undead stayed in Emerald Hill, then flowed toward other Newbie Villages.
No matter how fun the game, no matter how great the welfare, there was one thing that he, as an NPC, could never contest—if that thing doesn’t show up, the welfare he provided could excite the Undead. But as soon as that thing appeared, regardless of what you offered, it would become completely non-competitive.
Its existence was the highest setting in the game—friends!
Footsteps sounded.
Lind looked up, and Lania, in full military dress, approached. She had tied her long hair into three braids and then coiled them at the back of her head.
Her light yet splendid golden scale Enchanted Armor fitted her figure perfectly; a golden hair clip adorned with tiny decorations at her silver temples accentuated her nobility.
Her trailing cloak lifted slightly with the wind as she moved briskly, revealing the slender rapier at her waist, etched with rose decorations.
The Undead hadn’t had a chance to interact with Lania lately, unless Lania could also get online, and had seen that she’d been voted the most popular Poster Girl.
The Most Beautiful Female NPC contest has been held for over twenty rounds now, and with undead continuing to emerge, the NPCs users can interact with are increasing in number, leading to more beauties being nominated.
Only Bunny-toothed Witch and Brittany from Lind’s poster girl group remain on the list, with Bunny-toothed Witch’s recent surge in popularity due to a Magic Potion ingredient chest reward event—it’s uncertain how long she’ll hold her spot.
Brittany is currently at the bottom because she’s not actively running her business, whereas in another Newbie Village, an exceptionally cheerful female NPC broke out with "Hello, Jie Fen" and her popularity skyrocketed.
Queen Rania, of course, effortlessly parachuted to the top of the list.
She crushed the competition, including the Red Nun from Raven City’s orphanage, Aisley Reyes from Black Hoof Village, and even Miss Thunderstorm, the Duke’s daughter from Southern Griffin Fort, Miss Tao Lexi.
Female NPCs are one of the lures that Lind uses to attract the Undead, but this tactic can’t be used too often.
Lind was genuinely shocked to see Miss Thunderstorm appear; after all, she’s an absolute bookworm.
His impression of her was just thick glasses.
At a young people’s ball, Lind had met her once; as the Duke’s most beloved daughter, she also had a horde of brothers. The Griffin Duke loved having sons, with both legitimate and illegitimate ones aplenty, all raised within the castle walls.
His only daughter was treasured like a precious jewel.
It should have been a beautiful encounter, though at the time Lind had no chances against the many talented young bachelors, as numerous noble youths aspired to marry the Duke’s daughter.
But it was at that dance that Lind accidentally saw Tao Lexi wipe her glasses and witnessed her sparkling eyes turn into (3_3).
And it wasn’t just Lind who saw it; afterward, almost everyone chose to turn a blind eye.
Looking at a recent photo of Tao Lexi and her rank just below Rania as the second Most Beautiful NPC, Lind really wanted to tell the Undead, "Go ahead, take off her glasses; you’ll find a pleasant surprise."
"What’s wrong?" Lind withdrew his wandering thoughts, looking at the Queen.
She walked up to Lind, but even with her height, it was hard for her to tower over Lind while he was sitting down.
"Doris told me you’ve been sitting here for a day and a night."
"I might sit even longer."
"Because of the Undead?" Rania always managed to see through Lind’s thoughts at a glance.
Constantly dying and being resurrected, the Undead she used to disregard still seemed nothing special to her, even if they all became Great Knights; Goblin Castle’s power wasn’t weaker than that of the Undead.
"Rania, I could go back and take Goliath right now," Lind gazed quietly at her face, staring into her eyes, "I could engage Cote in war, and I’m fairly confident I could capture him, maybe even bring him to his senses a bit."
"I’m pleased to hear your confidence, my lord Duke," Rania said without a hint of smile, "so why worry about the Undead? I’ve observed them. They are not united. They each have their own interests and rarely agree with one another."
Lind still shared his concerns: "I’m worried they might side with so-called New Nobility."
"But that’s not the root cause," Rania said. She saw right through Lind’s heart, which differed from his words.
He wasn’t afraid of the New Nobility; he was worried about something else.
The Undead have never been his concern. He could deceive others, but not Rania; she knew him better than he knew himself.
