Chapter 317: Chapter 271: What an Acting NPC

Honeybee Colony Cottages, the original name was Cottage District, which is said to have been the residence of a brewing master from a foreign land who, having fled to the territory of Rand Kingdom, settled down here incognito.

It seems that all stories start in a similar way, with being pursued, fleeing, and so on, even fairy tales usually begin with a princess’s flight, and then settling down somewhere.

Latter, the master brewer discovered a swarm of wild bees nearby. He stole their beehive and made delicious honey wine with the honey.

The homeless fugitives took root in the Cottage District, which gradually developed into the Honeybee Colony Cottages.

Legend has it that there’s a great difference between the story and the truth, and the biggest difference is that before the apocalypse, there was no such thing as Honeybee Colony Cottages or Cottage District.

This place was once a private vineyard belonging to a noble, and very few people knew this "secret." In fact, so few that only Lind had heard of it, because the vineyard’s honey wine had once been served at his table.

After the apocalypse, the output of various resources became more scarce, but curiously the Honeybee Colony Cottages still managed to produce honey wine, which tasted even better than before the apocalypse.

There are many rumors about the honey wine:

For example, in the Honeybee Colony Cottages, if one sees a bee flying by, they should yield the way, because these are the real builders of the village.

Some say that the bee flying the lowest is wrapped in a heavy coat of nectar. The brewers just have to track this bee to find the best hive and then they can make the best-tasting honey wine.

For Loves White Silk, buying honey wine wasn’t much of a problem, but the real difficulty was how to transport it, since even the relatively "peaceful" Cottage District wasn’t allowed within the territory of Mountain Demon Castle.

The old and new nobility had an unspoken agreement not to disturb each other, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t go to war. Their positions had already determined their fight to the death.

Fortunately, Loves White Silk had inquired around and found out that there was actually an Undead among the group that came to deliver wine near Mountain Demon Castle this time.

It’s easy when it’s our own people!

Though they couldn’t trade within the territory of Mountain Demon Castle, they could set up a small stall at the border.

Trade between different powers couldn’t use currency, and it was mostly bartering.

"Thanks, bro!" Loves White Silk didn’t expect that these casual gamers would have such peculiar styles. Everyone wanted equipment for bartering, but this group actually wanted all kinds of materials.

"Magic Potion can cultivate various types of nectar," the casual Undead explained: "And drinking this type of wine can also earn experience."

"I saw that, apart from inducing a slightly tipsy state, it also gives experience, but you’d probably go broke trying to level up by drinking this stuff."

A thought struck Loves White Silk, "Brother, Mountain Demon Castle has a huge demand for this kind of wine. Do you have any interest...?"

I could do this business myself.

"No chance," the other shook his head: "We’re just the laborers helping with the brewing, the most critical step in winemaking, they never let us touch it. It has always been the brewers doing it, and besides, the cottages are not short on money."

"Not short on money?"

"Yeah, very rich, and no one dares to owe them," the casual Undead said, finding this matter quite amusing. He pointed to the southeastern sky and said, "You know about Red Mushroom Village? Baron Red Mushroom owes a huge debt. I heard he’s about to be forced to pay it back soon—if he doesn’t, his assets will be seized for the debt."

The crazed Baron Red Mushroom who imprisoned Undead debtors, and the leisurely-paced brewing village, their strengths seemingly reversed, Honeybee Colony Cottages appeared to have full control of the dialogue, even seeming quite tough.

"I’ve got to go now. Remember to take me with you if you get the chance to join you guys," I said.

"Sure, we’ve got one rule here: we welcome newcomers."

"Hanging out with Lind, you’re on easy mode, right? We get it. But we’re casual players, and without his brewing formula, there’s always a bit of unease."

After bidding farewell, Loves White Silk found Old Pete, who wandered around Mountain Demon Castle like a street urchin.

Loves White Silk felt something was off.

As Lind’s bodyguard and the most recognizable face amongst the Undead, there was hardly an old Undead who didn’t know Old Pete.

Just then, another Undead noticed something unusual about Old Pete and asked if he needed help.

Old Pete said, "I’m looking for pork from Emerald Hill. If you can bring me some, I’ll pay you for it."

The Undead immediately asked, "Payment, what?"

"Points from Mountain Demon Castle."

"Damn it! New territory points, I’m going, I’m going! Wait for me!" the Undead hurriedly ran off.

Loves White Silk had an epiphany at this moment.

Ah, so Old Pete, you came here to stock up!

Even the way his eyes cleared from muddiness to clarity in a blink at the mention of "pork" was the same as when he mentioned "honey wine" while accepting tasks.

Thinking he had found a unique task, it turned out to be just another gathering task after all.

If a normal person did this, Loves White Silk would certainly scold them for being insatiable, but since Old Pete is an NPC, he couldn’t blame an NPC for spreading tasks everywhere.

"Old Pete!" Loves White Silk came to Old Pete’s side: "Here’s the honey wine you wanted."

"Yes, that’s it haha!" Old Pete took the honey wine, a smile flashing across his face, and then he pulled out a small notebook.

"Hmm, Loves White Silk?" Old Pete took out a charcoal pencil and flipped through several pages.

"Correct," Loves White Silk nodded and peeked over only to find it densely packed with many characters.

A year had passed, and quite a few people were compelled to learn to read and write by Lind. Although Old Pete had poor learning abilities, he was good at drawing. Sometimes, a horizontal ellipse represented one character, a vertical ellipse another, while a circle, a square, or a rectangle could be like Cangjie creating characters—Old Pete had his own system of writing.

Loves White Silk watched as Old Pete searched for a while, then made a mark: "Your Points will be redeemable after some time."

This feeling gave Loves White Silk a strange sensation, like going back to the days at Star Dragon Ridge outpost.

It seemed Lord’s development in the central region wasn’t going so smoothly.

"May I start asking some questions?" Loves White Silk inquired.

By now, he was completely certain of one thing: the road to becoming a trader was a no-go. Old Pete always used the same phrases when issuing tasks.

So you’re quite the actor, Old Pete, I was almost convinced to buy the honey wine because of your words.

"Could you talk about the Lord’s experiences over the past year?" Seeing Old Pete nod and grant permission, he continued, "We were forced to leave for a year, and upon our return, we found out the Lord has become the owner of Mountain Demon Castle, missing out on lots of key information."

"It’s Duke!" Old Pete corrected, discontent with the Undead’s vague wording: "I still remember the look on the Lord’s face when he was forced to leave Goliath; he later told us he’d bring us back."

"He’s doing that." Loves White Silk felt like a war correspondent, then contemplated how to make this part of the video less dull.

"He certainly will!" Old Pete affirmed again: "He is one of the two Dukes of Rand Kingdom!"

"Sounds quite grand."

"It’s not that grand," Old Pete shook his head. I often heard the Lord sighing: "Do you know what those people call us? Remnants of the old era, those traitors who call themselves the New Nobility, and even some who believe they’ve transcended their mortal bodies to become a new race. Look at our land, it can’t grow food to fill our stomachs anymore, only mutated food that the Mutants can eat."

This was a long conversation, and a light bulb suddenly lit up for Loves White Silk. He had his new video direction.

But before that, he hoped to gather as much material as possible.

Just as Loves White Silk was about to ask more questions, he suddenly noticed Old Pete looking off into the distance, then an Undead approached.

"Old Pete, is there anything I can help you with?"

"I’d like to taste the sour grapes from Fox Hole, but that place isn’t friendly to outsiders, sigh."

"I can help you with that!" the Undead immediately said, glancing at Loves White Silk with a questioning look to see if he was taking on the task.

Loves White Silk took a half-step back and shook his head to indicate he was not taking it.

"Really?" Old Pete’s murky eyes suddenly brightened: "If you can bring grapes from Fox Hole, I’m willing to pay! "

This intense déjà vu.

What a great actor this NPC is.
