Chapter 248 - 215: The Ten Sons
Chapter 248: Chapter 215: The Ten Sons
Lind left Star Dragon City, leading a troop of Great Knights over mountains and through valleys towards Moon Mountain.
Cazhen Town was now completely abandoned; hardly any corpses could be seen in the graves, as they had all been burned after that sudden undead siege.
Traveling south from Cazhen Town, navigating winding roads and crossing rivers, they encountered an attack from treasure-stealing banshees.
These were tricky Calamity monsters; while not very strong, they were definitely the enemies of Wizards.
As long as the treasure-stealing banshees were present, Wizards couldn’t possibly chant spells, and the situation for the Great Knights wasn’t much better, unable to pray, they also couldn’t use various Skills. But they were somewhat better off than Wizards, at least they had exceptional close-combat ability.
A volley of shots sent the treasure-stealing banshees in the sky crashing down with a patter.
The rest hastily fled.
"I remember the last time I came here, it wasn’t this road," Lind gazed at the Snake People Outpost concealed in the distance within the canyon.
He wasn’t riding a Flying Dragon, of course, nor had he strayed too far.
Given that Ronan’s son could communicate, Lind hoped his own "face" would play some role.
Before that, as a Noble, his "face" had played a role many a time, as part of the new era’s disadvantaged groups, it was only right to huddle together for warmth.
Following him this time was Riff, who nodded, "Back then, we passed Snake Catcher Fortress, and we had a good drink at the tavern."
"Really?" Lind struggled to remember.
"You were in a bad mood at the time," Riff was probably the only one among this group who dared to chat with Lind in a casual tone. Others were in awe of Lind due to his various achievements. Only they had grown together through times of peril and fought desperately for each other’s survival up to this point.
He was referring to the time when Lind was exiled by the Queen.
"That’s why I can’t bring myself to like her," Lind said, "During that time, I constantly dreamt about killing her, doing away with her, but things didn’t go as I wished."
The few Great Knights nearby felt bothered by their good hearing—why hadn’t anyone mentioned that the hearing of Great Knights could get so sharp? They didn’t want to listen at all, please spare them from hearing any more.
Although the Kingdom’s power was on the brink of collapse and may have already collapsed, nominally, they were all soldiers of the Rand Kingdom.
Why should they have to listen to their Lord saying he wanted Her Majesty the Queen to die? The topic was too sensitive; it would surely lead to nightmares at night.
Everyone present was no fool, and Lind’s experiences had already been embellished with various versions in secret. As a Noble who had followed the Great Prince, after Rania Hedwin ascended the throne as Queen, he had been exiled.
Of course, it was nicely termed: guarding the border!
Even Riff did not dare to continue the conversation; it was something he did not dare to touch on.
They arrived at the Snake People Outpost where the soldiers on the walls noticed them, but showed no immediate intention to attack, the forging techniques from Bard, the Dragon Skin Armorer, still evident on the soldiers’ armor sustaining the style of the Rand infantry.
Friendly forces!
Surprising as it was, they indeed were friendlies.
"This gentleman is a Noble from Goliath, Lord of Star Dragon City, from the Armand Family, Great Knight Lind!" Riff took the initiative to amplify his voice towards the soldiers above the outpost.
Some information was simplified or concealed, but this did not prevent them from declaring their identity, especially as the lion banner was raised.
"Wait a moment!" the soldiers above the outpost called out, however, they showed no sign of opening the gate.
Lind had brought with him Senior Grand Knights including Lance, Serene, and Milan.
The rest were Great Knights.
Unfortunately, the Blood Lambs in the underground Calamity breeding pen didn’t grow as fast as needed. To cultivate the Calamity’s essence, he still couldn’t let the Blood Lambs out. In the future, the lowest rank among his soldiers would all be Great Knights.
Even so, they were somewhat behind schedule, for when the Undead return, they would have the opportunity to ascend to the Upper Rank.
The Snake People prison.
The madness seemed to be suppressed during the day.
Almet Flame Wing closed his eyes to rest; he was trying to balance his emotions and, by doing so, control his trembling brain.
"My Lord," a voice came from outside.
"What is it?"
"A Noble has arrived outside."
"Lind Armand?" Since they were aware of each other’s existence, it was not surprising that the real Noble had come for a visit.
"Yes!"
"If he wants to pass through Snake Catcher Fortress, tell him, it’s absolutely impossible!"
The Baron Ronan had gone mad, not to mention Lind wanting to pass through, even as Ronan’s son, he found it impossible to achieve.
As an adopted son, he and others were occasionally uncontrollably insane, but unlike Armand, Baron Ronan, also a Noble, had completely transformed into another kind of being.
He was still the Lord of Snake Catcher Fortress, but with a difference: he would be hostile to everything.
"Yes," the soldier took the order and was about to leave.
"Wait!"
Almet Flame Wing suddenly called out, "Let Lind come here, I want to have a chat with him!"
How could Lind, as a Noble, be absolutely assured of his sanity? Perhaps he had some method, perhaps this method could save Baron Ronan!
With this thought, Almet’s emotions, forcibly calmed, began to churn once more. The terrible feeling of boiling made him nearly lose himself in madness again. He truly couldn’t understand how the Bloodline Nobles could resist such insanity.
"My Lord, Baron Ronan has already gone mad," Lance said.
"I know," Lind had long known the detailed situation here from the mouths of the Undead.
