Chapter 244: Chapter 212 Enemies on All Sides
After gaining control of the Magic Limb Grafting Worms, Lind had led a swarm of bugs to explore the underground world, and the Soldiers would ride the Catastrophe Warhorses to explore the area to ascertain whether other creatures existed there.
Indeed, they discovered some magical creatures and undeveloped Calamities, especially the emergence of the scavengers which was a pleasant surprise.
Only after Calamities were cultivated was there a chance for a complete Heart of Calamity to appear; regretfully, such "BOSS" level Calamities seldom emerged.
It’s likely that there are other entrances to the underground world because the area is too vast to be explored completely in a short time with its endless caves.
If the people under him knew about Lind and Dome’s reckless actions, even Lance would definitely advise him to be cautious. Their homes and order had been destroyed by Calamity and madness. Not only were they struggling to eradicate Calamity, but also, how could they conceive of actively breeding it?
Thus, currently only Lind and Dome were allowed in the underground world, with others forbidden from getting close.
This was also the reason Dome was willing to follow Lind—the Lord did not sweat the small stuff and had clearer goals, making them well-matched collaborators.
The strong must be more tolerant.
Dome had carved out a small section within the bug nest.
There were no crowded eggs; that human-head-sized egg looked incredibly disgusting, reminiscent of a skinned meatball with hard shell crawled over with blood vessels.
"How much longer?" Lind tried to sense the egg through Melulan but couldn’t detect its existence.
"Which part did you graft?" he asked Dome.
"Limb Attachment Magic isn’t difficult, just as I had mentioned before to you. The real difficulty lies in obtaining good materials like the Noble Body," Dome estimated only he could tell Lind to his face that a Noble was good material.
"Breeding," Dome said, "Bugs can lay eggs and reproduce on their own. I’ve merged this trait with the Blood Lambs, which will allow us to produce more and more Blood Lambs."
"That’s true, but I must also remind you, Mr. Dome, that you haven’t yet figured out the method for turning Blood Lambs into Calamity," Lind felt the old wizard could still take on more responsibility.
Teleportation Magic Circle, Limb Attachment Magic, breeding Calamity, energy Mechanical Magic Array... looking at it this way, he was the busiest in all of Star Dragon City.
"It won’t take too long, I’ve found some tricks."
Crack, the egg burst open.
Pulling at the blood vessels, a creature the size of a fingertip wriggled out.
Human-faced Worm!
Now, Lind also understood that these Human-faced Worms were the juvenile form of the bugs.
"What do they eat?"
"Anything with energy, but I think Fragment of the Heart of Calamity would be perfect."
"I think so too."
While the Heart of Calamity was hard to obtain, Fragments of the Heart of Calamity were ubiquitous. Even a trip around Harbor Village fishing explosives out of the sea could net countless Fragments of the Heart of Calamity.
The sea is a vast treasure trove.
The pair scattered a few Fragments of the Heart of Calamity, and the Human-faced Worms wriggled closer, nibbling little by little.
Like feeding a puppy, their faces lit up with joyful smiles.
This scene was enough to make one’s skin crawl. If the people of Star Dragon City saw their beloved Hero Wizard, Dome, and their great Lord Lind doing such things, they’d likely have nightmares for several days.
"It’s not growing very fast."
"It needs time, my lord!"
While the growth of the Blood Lambs wasn’t as instant as Lind had hoped, requiring several weeks to develop from tiny worms, and their advancement to the rank of "Great Knight" would take even longer, successfully hatching and breeding them had already exceeded Lind’s expectations.
The Blood Lambs truly bore the essence of Calamity, signifying that a Calamity breeding farm was feasible.
Lind also hoped the Blood Lambs could be equipped with Limb Attachment Magic and a signal receiver so they could receive Melulan’s signals and follow his commands.
However, Limb Attachment Magic was filled with paradoxes, with "purity" being of utmost importance.
This was also why the bugs could not become Calamity.
Not wanting to become Calamity but instead continuously assembling into bizarre things was a lesson learned.
Then a new problem emerged.
Messaging a large number of Blood Lambs was no issue, but who would shepherd the Blood Lambs if they did not obey commands and discipline.
Bugs?
Once the Blood Lambs, imbued with the essence of Calamity, had grown, the bugs might not actually be able to handle them.
A Great Knight could easily deal with two or three bugs, yet a single evolved Calamity Blood Lamb could critically injure and incapacitate a Great Knight.
Fortunately, no advancement to Calamity had occurred, hence the remaining bugs had then undertaken the role of "sheepdogs."
Nonetheless, Lind would do well to quickly find some Shepherds.
The bugs below, now the best models of labor, had become new slaves in a world without the Undead.
Serving as construction workers, necessary for herding with pastures needed to prevent Blood Lambs from wandering off, Lind had to have the bugs construct a wall high enough that Blood Lambs could not cross it.
The bugs, noticeably advantaged in building nests, indeed constructed very solid walls. Initially, it took both burning and smashing by the Flying Dragon for Alex, a "third-ring" individual, to barely break through and contain the flock.
Following that, as the number of Blood Lambs increased, another problem emerged.
Once the number of Calamity reached a certain level, the nearby areas would get infected by the essence of Calamity, becoming a Calamity Shadow Region.
