"Where the hell am I?" Charlotte looked around the dark hall, thinking of where she had come from. No wonder they say no one can steal anything from Halkhall Central Hall. Not only was the building vase, but it had an inescapable structure. Charlotte doubts the world’s best criminals will be able to find her at his point.
She felt so tired, her legs were already giving up but she struggled to walk. If only she could see just one person to save her from this predicament.
While Charlotte tried to find her way back to the hall she heard footsteps approaching her. "I’m here," Charlotte screamed for whoever it was to help her. She couldn’t find her way and was already exhausted.
"Mrs Hamilton." A male voice was heard and Charlotte turned excited. Maybe Alanis and Harlow were already looking for her. Maybe they noticed she wasn’t in the hall with them.
"Yes, I’m here." She screamed with her last strength. The footstep of the person grew louder and suddenly, a man emerged from the dimly lit hall.
"Mrs Hamilton," Lincoln called. He had attended the ball in disguise so that Harlow would not notice him, looking for a chance to speak to the old woman. He knew she loved him, Charlotte had been one of the people that loved him and treated him right.
When he saw Charlotte leave the room, Lincoln followed her but he lost her too because surprisingly for an old woman, Charlotte sure had a lot of energy.
Tonight, he would put that useless Harlow Blackwood in her place. He has finally found the true boss of Hamilton Corp. Charlotte listens to everything he says and she loves him.
"Mrs Hamilton, it’s so nice to see you," Lincoln said softly ignoring the woman’s confused face.
"I have been following you for minutes now, there is something important I would love to discuss with you," Lincoln said calmly.
Though Charlotte didn’t look like she was in the mood to respond to him, she still managed to ask. "What is it?" Charlotte asked the guard.
"That daughter-in-law of yours ma’am, she is something else. I don’t know why Master Alanis decided to step down." He said.
"Harlow?" Charlotte asked wondering if they hadn’t sent this man to come look for her. What was he even talking about? How dare he disrespect her Harlow like this?
"Yes, Harlow Blackwood, she even fired me for no reason."
"Fired you?" Charlotte asked wondering why Harlow had fired the man. Maybe he did something wrong. But they have trained their guards to be perfect that is why in years they haven’t fired anyone, how did Harlow fire this one?
"Take me back to the hall immediately. Let’s get to the bottom of this." She commanded.
"Alright, please come with me, ma’am. I also need an explanation as to why she had fired me, I did nothing wrong. It was so obvious she cheated because she’s jealous of me " Lincoln started leading the way, "Wait." Charlotte stopped him immediately.
"Where are you going, can’t you see your boss cannot walk? Carry me back to the hall this instant. It seems you don’t want your job back." She commanded and Lincoln bowed in apology.
"My apologies Mrs Hamilton." He bent and Charlotte climbed his back. Lincoln was a slender-looking man, one who never visited the gym or did any form of exercise. That is why, he almost lost his balance when Charlotte got on him.
"Hmm." Lincoln whimpered. This old woman, though so small, had a lot of weight. He thought as he struggled to move one leg. He hasn’t had anything good to eat all day, and now, he has to carry this woman.
Lincoln took in a deep breath, his legs vibrating as he walked.
"Are you alright?" Grandma Hamilton asked with concern. It was because the man walked slower than she would and he made strange sounds like he was dying.
"I... I’m fine Mrs Hamilton, please stay still." Lincoln said. He felt like he was going to die. He had seen a few guards ahead when he came here, maybe they were still there. He would have to hurry so that they would do their job.
He couldn’t carry this woman all the way to the hall. He had come here today to get his job back, not become a horse.
They passed the first hall, Lincoln’s steps got slower but he endured as he walked. He hoped all this stress and suffering would be worth it. He hoped to get rewarded. Treating Charlotte Hamilton nicely would secure him his job back and he would ensure to get Harlow fired.
As they entered the next hall, Lincoln saw the guards from earlier and smiled. Luck was on his side today. He lifted his hands, "Come! Help us! He yelled falling to his knees. And Charlotte got off him.
Charlotte Hamilton was not amused. Not one bit. She straightened her dress with the utmost dignity, looking down at Lincoln, who was sprawled on the floor like a broken puppet.
"You can’t even carry an old woman without collapsing? Pathetic. Our guards are trained to do anything, yet here you are, gasping for air like a fish out of water." She scoffed, rolling her eyes as she adjusted her heels.
Did Charlotte see him as a mere guard? He thought.
Lincoln, still on his knees, wheezed dramatically. His back was screaming, his arms felt like noodles, and he was pretty sure his legs had given up on life. "M-Mrs. Hamilton... I think... I think I’m seeing my ancestors right now." He said breathlessly.
Charlotte glared at him. "Did your ancestors tell you to embarrass yourself in front of me? Get up, you disgrace."
Lincoln attempted to push himself up but immediately regretted it. His legs trembled like a newborn deer, and before he could stabilize himself... **plop!**...he fell flat on his face.
Charlotte sighed, shaking her head. "Useless. Absolutely useless."
One of the guards finally stepped forward, trying very hard not to laugh. "Mrs. Hamilton, may I assist you?"
She turned to him, nodding regally. "Yes. Unlike this weak excuse for a man, you actually look like you’ve seen the inside of a gym."
The new guard effortlessly picked Charlotte up in a well-practiced motion, carrying her as if she weighed nothing.
Lincoln but his lower lips as he stared at them. He didn’t get the chance to tell her about Harlow, and now he was too weak to even move.
