Chapter 122: HICKEYS

Alanis moved smoothly through the club, carrying his drunk wife in his arms. She hadn’t stopped slapping his chest and squeezing his nipples while laughing to herself as he carried her.

The crowd parted instinctively as he moved through them. As soon as he was outside, he exhaled sharply, the chaos of the club fading into the night behind him.

"Am I really in heaven?" came a soft mumble from the woman in his arms. She hummed rubbing her cheeks on his chest.

Alanis glanced down at her, frowning. "What nonsense are you talking about now?"

Her eyes fluttered open slightly, and she gave him a dazed smile. "Woah... I must be in heaven. So many handsome men..." Her voice trailed off, and Alanis blinked, utterly caught off guard.

He arched a brow but couldn’t help the faint smirk that tugged at his lips. The alcohol is really hitting her now, he thought. It wasn’t every day his stubborn wife called him handsome. Moments like this are to be treasured forever.

He was so sure in the past, that she saw him as the most handsome man in the world if only he had just paid a little attention to her.

"Of course, you’re in heaven," he teased, adjusting her weight in his arms, he lifted her higher than usual. "You married the most handsome man in the world. And you, my dear, are the most beautiful."

Harlow raised a hand, brushing it lightly against his cheek. "There are so many of you..." Her hand floated in the air as if she were touching an invisible army of Alanises.

His smirk faded into a frown. Seeing double. Great. He sighed, striding toward the car. As he reached it, one of his guards opened the door, and just as he leaned down to place her inside...

"Bllleeeuugghhh!"

Warm liquid splattered across his chest.

Alanis froze.

No. No, no, no. She did not just do that. Slowly, he looked down at his ruined shirt.

"Fuck," he muttered through clenched teeth.

Harlow, blissfully unaware of the damage she’d caused, clung to his collar with both hands. And then,

"Bllleeuugghhh!"

Again.

The guards turned away, their shoulders shaking as they struggled to stifle their laughter. They knew better than to make eye contact with their boss right now. Alanis, the notorious clean freak, was standing there, covered in vomit, while his wife giggled and hiccupped like an overgrown toddler.

Hiccup. Hiccup. Hiccup.

She gave him a sloppy smile. "You’re so shiny now..."

Alanis inhaled deeply, summoning every ounce of patience he possessed. "You’ve outdone yourself, Harlow," he muttered, his tone as flat as a board.

Gently, he placed her in the car, his movements robotic as he shut the door behind her. "Don’t let her out of your sight," he said to the guards and walked away.

Alanis disappeared back into the club, leaving a trail of angry footsteps. Minutes later, he returned, shirtless, wearing only his trousers. His discarded shirt had been condemned to the club’s trash can.

Climbing into the driver’s seat, he glanced at his peacefully snoring wife through the rearview mirror. "Unbelievable," he muttered, starting the car and driving off.

---

The next morning, Harlow woke up to a pounding headache. She sat up in bed, groaning softly as she rubbed her temples.

"That’s what you get for deciding to go to a club without me," came a voice she did not want to hear at the moment. She frowned, almost asking what he was doing in her room, but she pressed her lips together the moment she realized it was his room too.

Her head snapped up, and there he was, Alanis Hamilton, fresh out of the bathroom in his sleek black robe and long pj. He was standing by the window, holding a cup of coffee in his hand. He looked infuriatingly smug.

His black hair still dripped off water as he stared at his wife.

"Coffee?" He asked, a small seductive smile forming on his lips. Harlow blinked multiple times to get herself out of his spell.

"I don’t need your help," Harlow snapped. "If I want coffee, I’ll get it myself."

He smirked, taking a slow sip. "Wasn’t expecting anything less." He said and started walking towards her. "For a woman, I let Infest my body with her vomit, you sure are heartless." He said.

No one has ever done such to him before. Not even his enemies. But this woman.

This little woman he could crush with his bare hands. His fierce little Villainess. She was truly a pain in his ass

"What are you even talking about?" she asked, her irritation growing.

"Breaking the rules has consequences, Harlow. And last night, you broke two." Alanis showcased his middle and index fingers, elaborating his words.

Her eyes narrowed. "What rules are you talking about?" Harlow laughed. "Don’t tell me going to a club is now a taboo? I don’t recall that being on our agreement." She said.

"It is not. But meeting Andrew Phillipsburg is." The bed dipped as he sat beside her. "We made an agreement never to see him again if you didn’t want to incur my wrath, and how many days has it been already?" He smiled at her.

Harlow gulped. She has never known this man to be this cold and heartless. Who is this man?

Harlow tried to search her memory of ever meeting Andrew in the club, but she just couldn’t remember. All she did was talk to that stupid bartender and the weird man with a white cloth wrapped around his face who spoke of stealing her away.

"Oh, please. Prove it. Otherwise, you’re just making things up." She said.

Alanis tilted his head, his smirk deepening. "Do you remember how you left the club last night?"

"You..." Her voice trailed off as she stared at Alanis, her cheeks heating up.

"Oh, I didn’t just pick you up from the club," Alanis said casually, swirling the coffee in his cup. "You made sure to baptize me in your... let’s call it ’excitement.’"

Harlow’s jaw dropped. "No. I didn’t..."

"Oh, but you did." He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a low, teasing whisper. "And you smiled the whole time while you ruined me."

"I don’t think being this close to me is a part of the rules." She rushed her words as she stared at him.

"Why not, you broke the rules already since we got back. I think it’s my turn to break mine." His eyes moved down to her parted lips and he blew air into it. Harlow quickly closed her mouth. She used every force in her to push Alanis off her body.

"What do you want from me, and what are the rules I broke?" She asked sitting back up. Alanis took out his robe to showcase the several hickeys on his neck, shoulders, and chest.

"It’s clear your favorite part is my sternum cause you made that part even deeper."
